Clara Anderson has her routine, and she likes it that way. But oil has brought change to Healdton, Oklahoma, and she doesn't like it one bit. She might not have the means to stop history in the making, but that doesn't mean she has to rent rooms in her boarding house to oil well riff-raff. Needless to say, her temper flares when she discovers that while she was out shopping, her help rented a room to Briar Nelson, a roustabout for Rose Oil.

Briar just wants a place to sleep and eat and if the lovely, crazy woman has a problem with that, she can take it up with a lawyer. He signed the contract for three months and paid the rent in advance and nothing is going to make him leave. Besides, he already has two women in his life and doesn't need another.

Can a woman who was jilted ten years ago fight the past and fall in love with the very kind of man she vowed to have nothing to do with? Changes more personal than the discovery of oil take place in the Morning Glory Inn as Clara and Briar fight the past and fear the future.

Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!

Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.

I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.

I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.

Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!

I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.

Happy reading!

A sweet story

Loved the plot. The characters were . Developed. The time. Line told a great deal about the period. Yet family. Was very important. I led the happy ending. The two characters were we'll support ed by the rest of the cast. I could have not cared about the ex wife
Ife but did. Add some spice. As I said in my title, a sweet story. With a view. Of the times .

Clara runs Morning Glory Inn, a boarding house in the small town of Healdton, Oklahoma. She wants nothing to do with men, having been jilted by a traveling preacher 10 years ago. She doesn’t like oil companies or the people who work for them. She thinks that oil is ruining the town that she loves.

Briar is a roustabout with a few secrets. Not suspecting that he is an oilman, Dulcie, the cook for the Morning Glory, rents a room to Briar while Clara is out. This sets the stage for some interesting interaction and sparring between Clara and Briar.

Carolyn Brown writes with humor and sass. Every story is a big dose of southern comfort. I love that a lot of expressions used in her stories are things Granny used to say. Reading one of her books is like going home again.

I enjoyed Morning Glory and I have already purchased the next book in the series.

“Morning Glory" is one of my FAVORITE Carolyn Brown books!

Clara runs Morning Glory, a boarding house. She was jilted by a preacher 10 years ago, and is now considered the “town fool.” As she approaches 30 with a hard heart, she feels spinsterhood is her certain future.

This book journeys through Clara’s emotions, helps her redefine herself, put her past to rest, open up to life, and see a future different from what she has ever imagined.

The characters are all well developed. The time frame is early 1900’s when attitudes about women in society were so different than now. Setting, Oklahoma when oil wells were bringing in change. Change that eas unwelcome by Clara and many of the supporting characters.

This book was do deliciously delightful, I'm thinking about rereading it Right Now!!!!

If you love romance, Carolyn Brown, Hope, love, inspiration, you will LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

Broad and Clara

Clara runs the local boarding house and neighbors say she is a little touched ever since the man she was supposed to marry had run away and left her waiting. She has a strong dislike for the oilfield people in her town and doesn't want them there.
Briar is the owner of Rose Oil company and got a room at the boarding house by accident when Clara was gone and she isn't happy about it.
Sparks fly between them but Briar knows he can't have her because he is a divorcee. In those days he couldn't marry a decent woman again.
Another good story with a great cast of characters.

Love the whole series!

I checked on cities mentioned and went on to read about little Oklahoma oil boom towns inspired by reading this book and the rest of the series. I was most intrigued because I worked in The oilfield as a parts runner and traveled to Healdton almost daily! I love the characters as though they are good friends ! I think the author has done a wonderful job of bringing the flavor of this point time about a rural part of Oklahoma!

This was a reasonably enjoyable book, centering on two main characters—Clara, owner of a boarding house in Healdtown, Oklahoma, and a hater of the oil industry and oilmen in particular—and Briar, an oilman who comes to town and stays in Clara’s boarding house, which has strict rules and normally doesn’t take in oil workers. How they build a relationship and the dynamic with her Anderson cousins, Tilly and Tucker, consumes much of the book. While an enjoyable book, it somehow did not draw me in as I’d hoped. That stated, it was a worthwhile read.

Charming!

A very charming tale that held my attention throughout. It was easy to visualize the characters and setting. Spunk was demonstrated by all of the ladies and they were not afraid to show that times were changing and they wanted to be a part thereof.
I smiled while reading this book because there was warmth, cooperation, and a role for everyone. There was a closeness of caring, love and support.
A great read!

Five 🌟

As usual, Carolyn Brown's characters come to life as the opening chapters unfold. Mrs. Brown writes with insight and humor. I enjoyed the historical setting of the oil boom in Oklahoma and Texas in 1915. Also I enjoy the references to Ardmore, Ok. , since I spent the summer of 1964 visiting my cousins. This book brought back some lovely memories of Ardmore. Thanks.

What Fun!

Another joy to read but, be sure to read Carolyn's book titled, "Evening Star" next if you enjoy this one as much as I did. Her character's continue on into it.
I made the mistake of reading it first and sort of got the horse before the cart so to speak. They both will stand alone but, more fun if read in order.

Not a bad read

This was a interesting read, my second biosphere I wasn't wowed which is unusual with a Carolyn Brown novel. Briar and Clara had a dysfunctional relationship through out most of the book which is a downer. I wasn't thrilled with their wedding and the book needed an epilogue. Did they have a bunch of children?

They called her the town idiot

Morning Glory by Carolyn Brown is a cute, quick read about living life on your own terms, no matter what others may think of you. This story is set in the early 1900s, but the time period does not define it - the ideas of gossip and false assumptions would stand true in any time.

A heart warming story

From start to finish Morning Glory is entertaining and heartwarming. Clara is a strong willed woman who was jilted and has developed a distaste for men. Briar is a divorced oil man with a four year old daughter who comes to stay at the Morning Glory Inn. Sparks fly and the story begins.

Cute story during the Oklahoma oil boom

Clara Anderson was not going to be swayed by a good looking oil roustabout but eventually love found its way to her heart and Briar Nelson and his daughter Libbey stole it.Her cousins Tilly and Tucker and her boarders from the rooming house add interest to the story.

Down home read

Carolyn Brown deals with home town settings and her characters are like the girl and boy next door. Problems that people have in their lives are revealed and solutions come naturally, but not always without complications nosy neighbors initiate. Fun and easy reading.

Great Read

I have to admit, the head hopping from Point of View to Point of View, took me awhile to get used to, but the story itself was wonderful. Great characters and development. Felt like I was back in the days of prohibition.

Loved the main characters were outside of the norm.

Loved it. Sweet story with great characters. I genuinely liked them all and can't wait to read the next one. Also nice because it is not just overflowing with heaving bosoms or throbbing body parts. Just a sweet little romance that made me smile

Second Chances.

A very fast pace and delightful read. The characters were so vibrant, humorous and likable. The story unfolded skillfully and smoothly against the back drop of industrial, social and emotional chances in a rural area, as war beckoned on the horizon.

Morning Glory by Carolyn Brown

Carolyn Brown captures the folksy side of small town America that is dwindling fast into the past. It’s wholesome easy reading for any time of the year. I highly recommend it.

Hell's Bell's!!!

When the gusher comes, best get out of the way, or deal with the aftermath. Clara knows her path, but Briar impedes it. The dirty oilman has a sweet undercurrent and catches Clara in the wake. Enjoy!!

This is such a cute story, great characters, serious and funny. Clara can’t stand oilman Blair at the start but falls in love with him and his 4 year old daughter. Well written, clean and wholesome, a love story that will make you laugh and has a feel good ending.

Cute story!!

If you're tired of all that's going on in this world, here is a quaint story to take your mind off of things. Again, as with the last few books I've read, there are a few errors in spelling and words not edited right. The humor was good!!
