There are some downloadable templates which makes this a bit more involved than I want to get. The mini cheesecakes are amazing (but not rocket science.... it's kind of sad that the best recipe looks like a page filler). The macron recipe looks good but maybe not what I want to make with my 2 year old hello kitty fan. Lots of cupcakes and cake pops and directions on how to render character faces in icing.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of The Hello Kitty Baking Book from Goodreads. The book starts out with a handy list of key ingredients, baking and decorating equipment, so you're able to quickly glance through and make a note of anything you may need to add to your kitchen. Each recipe has thorough instructions and useful tips to guide you through the process of baking and decorating, as well as further ideas for decorating with other characters.

One of my favorites is the Hello Kitty macaron recipe. I never would have thought to pipe ears onto the macaron bases before baking to create a Hello Kitty shape. Another amazing recipe is the Hello Kitty Perfect Pink cake, which uses a basket-weave technique to decorate the sides. Before reading this book I would have been overwhelmed at the idea. But if you flip to the back of the book you'll see that Michele has thoughtfully provided step-by-step instructions with photographs of several piping techniques. She even tells you which Wilton tip is best suited for the recipe.

Also listed at the back of the book are templates of the characters, conversion charts for American, Imperial and Metric measurements, oven temperatures in F, C and Gas Marks, and even a list of retailers where you can pick up supplies.

This book is perfect for anyone who loves Hello Kitty, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to add to their baking repertoire. If you don't like Hello Kitty then use the decorating techniques to create your own designs! As an example, the apple pie could be decorated with apple shapes instead of Hello Kitty.

I’ve been a huge Hello Kitty fan since I was a kid, so I was extremely excited when I saw this book. Hello Kitty recipes? Sign me up! While the book has primarily Hello Kitty recipes, there are also a few other Sanrio characters included. I’m extremely happy with this book as well as the range of adorable baked goods that are bound to be delicious.

The recipes are broken up into three sections: cookies, cakes and cupcakes, and pies, treats, etc. Each recipe has photos of the finished product along with tips and tricks and ideas on different ways to customize them. The baking instructions are extremely clear and easy for readers to figure out if they are ready to make the item based on their skill level. While there are not photos showing the different steps to baking and decorating each item like I see in other books, there are detailed instructions.

I do think that it’s odd for the basic baking how-to chapter to be in the back of the book rather than the front, but it is very informative for new bakers. I also think that it also shows some visuals that will help newer bakers, especially with decorating. All in all, it is a cute book with a variety of cute recipes that I’m excited to make.

If you love all things Hello Kitty or know someone who does, this book is for you. Make no mistake the decorations are very detailed and time consuming for the novice. The author gives lots of photos, and instruction plus templates to recreate her results.

The Hello Kitty Baking Book: Recipes for Cookies, Cupcakes, and More is adorable. On amazon.com it is under $10, the photographs are gorgeous and the recipes I tried were amazing.

I loved the Hello Kitty Mini Chocolate Cupcakes even though they got stuck in the mini cupcake tin, totally my bad. The Hello Kitty Mini Cheesecakes were perfection! When it comes to the recipes, I have no doubts.

Where I do have doubts comes with the decorating. If you want Hello Kitty to shine as you make these delicious treats, you have a lot of work ahead of you. This cookbook does not come with special cookie cutters or stampers. You already have to have these.

It does have templates at the back but if they had only included a stencil cutout with this book, there is so much you could have done to add that Hello Kitty touch without buying or making special equipment.

Although the book is small and adorable in size, it has a lot of recipes and includes quite a detailed Bakery How-Tos section at the back that covers basic piping techniques and specifically, how to pipe Hello Kitty faces.

This makes figuring out who the cookbook is for a little challenging. In some ways you really need to know your stuff to pipe all those stars for the Hello Kitty Cake or the basket weaving technique for the other Hello Kitty Cake. Yet, this book is super cute and fun... I know there are newbie bakers out there who would love to learn how to use these recipes to bake cookies or brownies for the first time.

If it were me and I got this cookbook as a present but did not have the tools to make the sweet treats, I would be very frustrated. As a result, if you buy this for someone also throw in cookie cutters, Hello Kitty Cake/Cappuccino Stencil, Wilton Hello Kitty Cake Pan and maybe also throw in a Hello Kitty Chocolate Mold. Hmm… All of a sudden it is no longer so economical but at least the little foodie will be able to do all sorts of fun projects from the book without as much effort.

Despite the recipes being fabulous, the book being gorgeous and a steal of a price, the book just does not deliver everything. Literally. I wanted to give the book a perfect score but I can't! I just wish it came as a boxed set with a few fun items but on its own? It makes me feel left out.

I give The Hello Kitty Baking Book four out of five wooden spoons.

I received this book for free through Goodreads first reads program.

There were several things I really liked about this book:

1) There was a picture for every single recipe in this book. Nothing annoys me more than cookbooks not having pictures. I like to see what I am supposed to make and as the saying goes you eat with your eyes first; so if it doesn't look good, I'm probably not going to make it. Personally, I feel like every cookbook ever made should have a picture with every recipe. Make it happen people!

2) The ingredients required to make the desserts in this book are regular items that most people will have in their homes. There was no need for me to make a late night run to the grocery store, trust me I have done this on occasion. The recipes themselves were easy to follow and delicious. Oh mini-cheesecakes and cute little macaroons how I love you. Plus I enjoyed the fact that there was a recipe to make a cake instead of telling you to go the shelf and pick out a pre made box cake. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I enjoy making the entire item from scratch. This includes the icing too, another good recipe as it's not too sweet.

3) The fact that this was a hardcover book with good binding was also great. This means I am able to keep the book open to the correct page and not have to worry about cracking the spine, losing pages, or having to turn the pages back to the recipe after they have moved by themselves. The page stays were it is which is very helpful when baking.

4) There are helpful instructions on how to make the cake/cookie/brownie etc. look like the picture. I love to bake, but my design skills are not very good. I am getting better at it, but admittedly still need some work. Also the decoration part is part of the downfall of the book. While I have most of the indredients to make the cake, I do not have all the piping bags and other items that the book suggests having in order to decorate the cake as shown. This requires a trip to the store and I am not sure if investing in all the different items is something a non-professional baker, someone who may make a cake or two a year, is worth it. I would have appreciated alternate ways of making the design.

Overall though a cute, helpful book.

One of those absolutely gorgeously photographed cooking & decorating books full of ideas that are amazing to see. But when it comes down to it, will I spend all the time and effort to do this for a few dozen cupcakes for a party? 99.9% sure, no. Just personally not that into it. Doesn't help that I was never super into Hello Kitty. If you know someone who is, though, this is a great book for some inspiring treats.

I haven't tried the recipes themselves, but like most decorating cookbooks, it's really more about the decorating than the actual recipe. And in this case, how can we pull in that trademark hairbow!
There are a few more basic decorating projects too, but for the most part, these are more involved projects. She does give lots of instructions, though, and the necessary templates and so forth. But it's certainly a better book for those who have a little bit more decorating experience under their belts.

Overall, one I'd buy for my library but not for myself. I just don't do enough decorating like that in my average life, and particularly not Hello Kitty decorating. Still, if you (or someone you love) is Hello Kitty obsessed, this is one to at least check out, if for nothing more than the inspiration.

I wanted to make at least 1 recipe before I rated this book & let me say if all the recipes turn out as good as the Hello Kitty Brownies then I'll be very happy!

I love cookbooks & trying new recipes. I actually have little boys & will probably not make the Hello Kitty decorations (although I have 2 friends that I have already told about this cookbook since they have little girls that love Hello Kitty) but the recipes all sound great. My oldest son was helping me pick out the recipes that he wanted me to try too!

I can't wait to try more recipes. There is an apple pie recipe that I will definitely be making in the fall.

I guess I need to put a review in here since I received a copy through FirstReads, though I don't normally review cookbooks. Also I don't usually choose cute cookbooks with lots of pictures, and my baking style leans more towards tasty and homemade with the minimum of decoration. However, this is an adorable cookbook with beautiful pictures of Hello Kitty-inspired sweets and a range of recipes, from simple brownies to more involved projects like macarons. One would need to have pretty impressive decorating skills to make one's baked goods come out as well as shown in the photos, though, especially if one tried to do some of these projects without a special cookie cutter (which the text claims is possible…and I'm sure it would be, for a master sculptor).

If anyone likes Hello Kitty then this is the baking book for you. It has a very good assortment of baking recipes with color photos of each recipe. In the back of the book there is a chapter with baking basics that covers piping and it is illustrated so even a novice like me can see how to do it. It has the templates and also explains how to use them. There is also a page that lists where you can find all the supplies to make all the recipes in the book. I think that this is a great baking book because it gives you very easy to understand directions and the visual pictures are such a help. I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for my honest review.

I one this book via Goodreads and I honestly have no idea what I was expecting. I am both a baker and a Hello Kitty lover, so this seemed like the perfect cook book for me. However, most of the recipes either require a pan or mold, or some form of decorating to make the cookie/cake/brownie/ect. 'Hello Kitty' themed. I was a bit disappointed in that, as I was assuming this cook book would just be full of recipes for Hello Kitty lovers, such as pink and girlie treats.

All that aside, the recipes in the book are very well thought out, and although I have yet to make everything the book has, the ones I have made have been delicious.

I won this as a giveaway on goodreads.com. It is a very cute little recipe book perfect for little girls, whether they like Hello Kitty or not. I love that the recipes are pretty simple and alternatives are given for characters and, at times, ingredients. What I love the most, though, is that the extra time was spent to add templates for the Hello Kitty characters and that tips were provided on how to do different styles of piping-- something I've wanted to learn for a while. There are also plenty of "basics of baking" tips provided as well. This is a book my girls and I will be able to enjoy for many years, and I'm so very happy to have won this.

Excellent cook book with a huge variety of different Hello Kitty treats. Some are easy and some are very complex but the book does a good job of showing you what to do. There are beautiful images for each recipe. It has many baked goods of Hello Kitty and her friends including Badtz Maru which is one of my favorites. The book is also a very nice quality and looks great on the book shelf. Highly recommended! I received my copy through goodreads first reads but that doesn't affect my review or thoughts of the book.

I won this in a Goodreads contest. This is a really cute book for Hello Kitty/baking fans. I'm more of a baker than a decorator, so I don't know how many recipes I'll make from here, but all the recipes look very doable. If you know someone who wants to begin learning how to make decorative baked goods, this would be a nice place to start as Hello Kitty is not a difficult design to make. Once someone understood the mechanics and art of making H.K. into cakes, cake pops or cookies, he or she could easily move on to harder designs. Cute book.

Totally non-essential but completely fun. A gentle, unassuming, little book of projects. The real emphasis here is on the decorating, with lots of tips that could be adapted to any cake or cupcake recipe. I probably won't spend a lot of time with this one but the writing and design are cute and nice, and for the right obsessed fan, it would be a perfect gift.

I won this book in a first reads giveaway and it's adorable. The pictures are wonderful and the recipes seem to be fairly straightforward. I haven't made any of the recipes yet but I hope to use this book to make my daughter something for her birthday.

This is such a cute cookbook! I won a copy from a Goodreads giveaway and it was so much fun. My niece and I have made many of the goodies. They turned out well and tasted great. This would be a great gift for a little girl who's interested in baking.

Fun to flip through for adorable photos, but the recipes and techniques here are real - this is the one Hello Kitty craft book that I might likely actually make something from.
