this book is about how creatures evolved to develop veterbrae. in other words how spineless, water dwelling creatures evolved to have bones and eventually leave the water to thrive on land. it's pretty exciting stuff. but radinsky manages to make it seem really mundane and boring. me: come on, radinsky, this is some crazy, unbelievable, miraculous science you're talking about, put a little life, drama, humor, context into your writing. tell us this story without making us fall asleep. that's all i ask! radinsky: nahhh, chill.
