David Yow's cat portraits, captured here for the first time in book form, are bold, striking, hilarious, and beautiful. Each portrait is based around a pun, but they capture so much more than wordplay. All cat lovers will find something to relish in this gorgeous coffee-table book, which is the perfect gift for cat enthusiasts, animal lovers, and anyone with a playful sense of humor.

About the book, David Yow "I love cats. Always have. The only time I didn't have a cat was a brief hell in Chicago where I lived in an apartment whose landlord didn't allow them. At that place, I had a life-sized cardboard cutout of a cat which I named Toody. I also love wordplay. I'm the only adult I hang out with who still gets a kick out of puns. I make up palindromes. I used to write songs and poems (these days, I leave that for the songwriters and poets); in this book of cat-pun drawings, I have made a concerted effort to come up with ideas that range from really funny to really amusing. The entire litter of animals in this book are line drawings that are 'colored in' with photographic textures, and each cat is dropped into a photographic setting. Yep, that's the truth."

How to create a work like Copycat: and a Litter of Other Cats:
1. Search words or phrases containing "cat.”
2. Use the results as captions for bizarre drawings of cats.
3. Profit?
For example, the "cat litter" entry has a wacky-looking feline surrounded by empty cans, candy wrappers, and other improperly discarded trash. “Cat-o'-nine-tails” accompanies a sketch of a cat who for some unknown reason has a tail for each of its lives. Heelarious.

Copycat: and a Litter of Other Cats is what can happen when someone tries too hard to collect enough “cat” references to make a book. The effort shows.

I got this book as a Goodreads giveaway. Author and illustrator David Yow has created a collection of multimedia illustrations of cats, all connected with a word or phrase containing CAT. Some are bad puns, some are whimsical, others have a message. While the same basic pattern is used for each googly-eyed cat, there are differences based on the subject matter. Readers will find Grumpy Cat, Cool Cat, and even Scat--and I'm not talking about the "get out of here" variety. At times humorous and at other times groan-worthy, this is a collection that would be a good gift for the cat-lover on your list.

OMG I love this book! So funny and so cute. The puns throughout this book had me laughing and showing the book to all sorts of people. It seems like this is a book for cat lovers but you don't even need to be a cat lover to appreciate and enjoy this book.

*Note: I received this book as a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

Thanks to Edelweiss and Akashic Books for early access to this title.

This was a very silly book! The illustrations are pretty funny, and some of the puns are quite good. Some of it is just kind of eye-rollingly dumb, however. Cat lovers would maybe appreciate it a bit more.
