Review of Rescue at Cardwell Ranch:
Hayes Cardwell came to Big Sky to attend his brother, Tag's wedding unaware that soon he would be chasing a serial killer. This Texas P.I. saves Mackenzie Sheldon's life when he saves her from a brutal abductor. Unable to get her out of his mind, he is determined to protect her and catch this very intelligent and elusive killer.
With a killer most dangerous and one hiding in plain sight, will Hayes be able to protect Mackenzie?
Are they falling in love or is this just an adrenaline rush?

I am big fan of B.J. Daniels' books and have read many of her books. She is a versatile author who brings something new in each of her books. In Rescue at Cardwell Ranch too, BJ handles a demented psychopath with ease and while managing to give the readers the creeps she also effortlessly balances the romance between the protagonists.

The cover is eye catching. I love cowboys and one on a horse instantly appeals to me. The blurb is intriguing and instantly captivates the reader's interest and makes us want to read the book. Although this book is first in Cardwell Cousins series but still it continues from the Cardwell Ranch series. We are introduced to the Cardwells in the Cardwell Ranch series and to their cousins, Tag and his brothers in the Cardwell Cousins series.

Although this can seem very confusing but the books are standalone stories that can be read out of order. Only the introductions and some connecting events join them.

In Rescue at Cardwell Ranch, we are introduced to Hayes Cardwell, the younger brother of Tag Cardwell and cousin of Dana Cardwell who owns the Cardwell ranch. While we are swept away by the beauty and coziness of homely Cardwell Ranch and the cordial and loving residents of the place, there is thrill and excitement also present to catch this criminal who has so far gotten away with his heinous crimes.

The settings are explicitly and very beautifully sketched and brought to life and they are used expertly to heighten the thrill and tension in the novel. I could feel each and every shift of air and could feel the warning of danger in my bones.

The characterization is very real like and I connected with each and every person in this book. The romance and the sexual tension between Mackenzie and Hayes is vividly described and the fear of the killer very engagingly brought to life by the author. The underlying tension between the Cardwells and their estranged father is also touched upon but left unsolved for other books in the series.

I loved the book and sat engrossed in the story till the very end. The pace was gripping and I could feel the rush of adventure. The climax is chilling and very frightening.

Another great story from B.J. Daniels, I give Rescue at Cardwell Ranch, 4 out of 5 just because I felt the pace lagged a bit at times. This is a great holiday read and sure to entertain as well as keep you hooked. Strongly recommended to everyone, go read the book.

Review of Wanted Woman:
Maggie Randolph is running away from people who want to kill her and have killed her father before. Before dying, her father told her that she was adopted. Now someone is determined to eliminate anyone who tries to unravel the mystery of her adoption. Maggie, however, is determined to find the truth even if it takes her to the wilderness of Timber Falls, a small close-knit community nestled deep in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon. While she is determined to find the truth and is trying to remain detached, the Deputy Sheriff Jesse Tanner is annoyingly always on her mind. The suave, sexy and handsome man is someone she felt safe with the first time he saved her. But can she trust him? Who is after her? Why doesn't that person want her to find the truth? Can Jesse be the man who will understand and fight along side her?

The Cascade Concealed series is one of my favorite series by B.J. Daniels. I had read Wanted Woman a few years back and had almost forgotten the thrill of adventure and the excitement of mystery solving that I had got while reading this book and the series. A girl child went missing twenty seven years ago and this event changed the lives of many in Timber Falls. Now Maggie is here and maybe she is that lost girl. But there are some people who dont want to truth to come to light and will do anything to stop this from happening.

The settings are very beautifully planned and developed. I could visualize the uneven and dangerous terrain and the small, quaint town of Timber Falls where everyone knows everyone and still dont know as much as they thing they do! The feeling of mystery, dark secrets and impending danger is admirably made to feel to the reader who fells right at the center of all the action and danger.

The characterization is very expertly done. People are complex here with many facets to their character. Although you may think that you know them but still there are secrets that they are hiding and ones which we can never guess! BJ's writing style is engaging and easily keeps the reader at the edge of his seat, completely invested in the story throughout.

The chemistry between Maggie and Jesse is hot, sensuous and very heartwarming. Jesse is swoon worthy and totally an alpha. He gives a wild, untamed impression which is so sexy and made me want to meet him. :)

Maggie is strong, independent and fearless. She is unlike the simpering, sensitive heroines of romance novels. I really liked her and enjoyed her chemistry with Jesse.

The story moves swiftly and there are well planned twists and turns in the book that keep the reader guessing right till the end. The mystery when it is solved will surprise and impress you.

The best part is that it can be read as a standalone but it is still recommended that you read the series in order. All in all, a great book that I totally loved and strongly recommend to everyone. 4.5 out of 5 to Wanted Woman from my side. Do not miss this book and the series. It's a must read.

I received the book from Netgalley and the publisher, Harlequin and I am very thankful to them. The above reviews are my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

This is a duology, so what follows are two separate reviews.

I don’t read thriller romances much anymore because so few offer the emotional depth I look for beyond the tension from terror and a physical release. Daniels is one author I keep picking up because she can lace the real people stuff in with the murderer out to get them so that it feels like the developing relationship has a chance once the crisis is over.

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch is no different.

Would they have broken their routines long enough to recognize their attraction without her becoming a serial killer’s target right in front of his eyes? Unlikely. But once McKenzie crosses paths with Hayes, everything changed.

Sure, it might still have pulled them together when they met the next day as part of a pre-arranged business deal, but the difficulty of her recognizing him without knowing him adds an edge of complexity that wouldn’t be possible without his initial rescue. And this is what I mean about her characters. They feel full and complete with more going on than just survival. Yes, they were already destined to meet, though neither of them was aware of that fact. However, the people that they are in the beginning, him with strong ties to Texas that make him suspicious of his brother’s sudden decision to move to Montana and her as a single-minded businesswoman, could have been too wrapped up in their own lives to recognize just what was happening between them without the push. And those lives serve to complicate by offering viable red herrings to finding her attacker as well so it doesn’t feel like a simple, straightforward plot.

One warning though: we spend some time in the killer’s head. It’s well written, uncomfortably so, as we learn about his history and why he can’t just walk away. Beautifully done, which might make it hard to read for some.

Ultimately, Daniels offered characters that felt real, a tense situation with enough detail to be plausible, and a resolution to both the serial killer and the romance that didn’t feel too easy. I enjoyed it.

Wanted Woman was the second book in the B.J. Daniels duology, and in my opinion, the stronger of the two. The story begins with a simple mystery, that of Maggie’s natural parents when she has always known she’s adopted. It quickly turns sinister, though, as it appears her father (her last living parent) was murdered rather than dying in an accident, then the attorney responsible for the adoption is also killed.

Maggie’s not the sort to sit back and wait for things to happen, but she’s not doing herself any favors either. A bit of a wild child, she’s been raised to wealth but has a street streak that serves her well as she goes from innocence to being wanted as a witness for the crime while someone (not going to reveal because it’s a spoiler) is trying to kill her.

I had a hard time stepping away from this book to get things done, and not just because there are a lot of tense moments when lives are on the line. The characters are full fleshed and interesting from the two mains to the many others who all seem involved in what happened so many years before in a small, Oregon town.

Maggie is strong, determined, and smart, but she’s in over her head and can’t do everything on her own. Jesse has history and knows too much about what is going on in this town for comfort, his or hers. He can connect the events and what he knows comes closer than he’d prefer. Even worse, he’s the temporary deputy sheriff for his brother, who is injured, while she has city cops looking for her.

We’re given a villain, but a complicated one who isn’t all he appears to be while the mystery of how things got to this point has all too many possible solutions.

I figured the mystery out before the big reveal, but that’s a talent of mine so proves only that the answer is well seeded, with the pieces there to make it plausible and solid, not that it’s obvious. I certainly didn’t want to put the book down even after I’d figured it out. The characters are wonderful, pretty much all of them. I enjoyed the back and forth with the nosey reporter who happens to be marrying Jesse’s brother, the out-of-control rich girl Jesse feels ties to because of his own past, and so many others who helped to make the town of Timber Falls, Oregon, feel well-rounded and solid.

Plus there’s a pretty twisted twist that messes with the romance between the two in a way that only increases the tension between them.

P.S. I received these books from the publisher as a duology through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I admit it I am one of those people who when I find something I like, I buy it in every color. And that's just clothes. When I find a book by an author that B.J. Daniels is just that sort of author. When I discovered Wedding at Cardwell Ranch, I totally enjoyed it. It was full of action, suspense, small town fun, family loyalty and a plethora of other great things.. not the least, a great plot. So when I saw Rescue at Cardwell Ranch on Netgalley, I snapped it up.. only to realize it was a twofor.. Whoo Hoo!!

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch:

Rescue is actually the book BEFORE Wedding.. yes I know.. I am reading out of order again *gasp* but it happens, more than I would like these days. The great news.. it didn't detract from the story. Yes, I knew what would happen later to the family but there isn't an overall story arc so each story stands very well on it's own.

Hayes Cardwell arrived in Montana for two reasons. First off the check out his brother's bride to be and attend their wedding. Second, to convince his brother that the family should not expand their Bar-B-Que restaurants out of Texas. No muss, no fuss. Except shortly after stepping off the plane.. he stopped at a convenience store to grab a little something to hold him over on his way to the family ranch. Instead of food he found a woman being accosted in the parking lot and cowboy that he is, he swooped in and saved the day. Playing the good Samaratin he didn't even leave his name. Of course when he found out she was their realtor, Hayes felt a connection. The need to protect sure but something more as well.

MacKenzie Sheldon is a self made business woman. At 28 she is right on track with her goals, including owning her own realestate business. Of course there are some ruffled feathers AND at least one problem employee. But she hasn't really made any enemies.. so when she is attacked in the parking lot of her local grocery store.. she is stunned. And when her savior refuses to give his name she is confused.. Until she meets him and all sorts of sparks are going on.

Of course it's just not about being saved. MacKenzie soon learns that she is being stalked by a serial killer and she has no way of figuring out just who he is. When Hayes Cardwell offers her his protection and a place to stay at the family ranch, she takes him up on it. But is still trying to live life as normal as possible. Too bad sad serial killer won't let her go.

A really excellent whodunit.. so far I am really enjoying Ms. Daniels' ability to keep us on the edge of our seats the entire book. And she manages to tap into some pretty serious issues.. First off, a woman is never really safe and secondly.. well who wouldn't love a handsome Cowboy who swoops in to save the day?

Wanted Woman:

A perfect treat.. This is one of Ms. Daniels earlier books but it has that quintessential Daniels feel to it.

Maggie Daniels has always known she was adopted, what she didn't know was that she was stolen and sold to her parents. Someone is trying to keep that a secret and even now, 27 years later, people who know the truth are dying around her.. and Maggie is starting to worry that she is next.

Jesse Tanner is the acting sheriff of Timber Falls, a quaint little town in Oregon. Things should be quiet but when he watches a hit and run he is off to make sure he can help out. What he finds is a gorgeous woman who looks vaguely familiar..

A really intense story that sneaks into that part of a person that always wonders just who they are.. I wasn't expecting such a treat in this book and am thrilled to have found it.

To be honest I did not like much these two stories, they were more focused on the mystery and the threat that revolved around the protagonist rather than on romance. Especially in the second book, where the two main characters were convinced they were brother and sister until almost the end. Nothing to remeber.

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND HARLEQUIN FOR THE PREVIEW!

This is a two-for-one offering with Rescue at Cardwell Ranch the fifth in the Caldwell Ranch series while Wanted Woman is a standalone story.

I did receive this as an ARC from the publisher.

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch
This is the fifth in the Cardwell Ranch romance series revolving around the Cardwell family with this story taking place in Bozeman, Montana. The couple focus is on Hayes Cardwell and McKenzie Sheldon.

My Take
What is it with men (and some women!) who think a woman is “asking for it” when she dresses sexy? So what? If a woman enjoys dressing in a tight skirt or a low-cut blouse, that’s her option. You can enjoy the view or ignore it. That’s your option. Let’s reverse that point-of-view. Let’s say you’re a guy wearing tight jeans and a form-fitting T that shows off your muscles. Does that mean you are asking for it? Or do you simply enjoy showing off your body? Perhaps you simply feel comfortable dressing that way.

And ladies, you might want to read this if only to get a good scare in. A reminder to not let your guard down in a parking lot of any sort. Pay attention to your surroundings ‘cause I never want something like this to happen to you. God knows we wouldn’t all be lucky enough for a Hayes Cardwell to be there to rescue us! Dang it, *grin*. I “like” the point this jerk makes about men with money too. That women are less afraid of a monied man. Don’t you believe it. It’s too easy to create a pretense of wealth. And watch those hairstyles and cellphones.

And the word no. Make it a practice to accept that when a woman says no, she means no. Even if she’s stupid enough to just be playin’ some stupid game. Be safe. Accept no as an answer and go find someone else. Yes, this applies to women as well. If a guy tells you no, accept it.

In his case, there’s no rhyme or reason for his choice other than an easy snatch. He may have chosen her at random, but being a realtor means her picture is everywhere in town.

What is with us women and not being able to say what’s wrong? It’s like some universal thing we learn: “If you don’t know…” I hate that. And I’m just as guilty as the rest. What I really needed to do back then was read Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus to understand how different men are from women --- and vice versa *grin*.

Man, I’d forgotten how many cautionary tropes are in this. There’s also the one in which the person being threatened starts threatening back. Never tell the bad guy that you’re going to tell or that you’re going to the cops. Just pretend to accept his/her version and get to the cops as fast as possible.

Then there’s the white knight or gentleman’s trope with Hayes feeling the need to protect. Of course, it could also be he’s feeling more than he wants to. Of course, there’s my pet hobbyhorses of parental licensing and stopping the bullies. I wonder if someone like this serial killer could have been prevented from becoming if his parents had been decent people who actually wanted a child. If the bullies at school --- and I’m including the women in this! --- had been stopped. Yes, I know there’s always a chance that someone like him will become without any help, but how many might not without the extra “training”?

We’ve all met someone like Gus Thompson, and his path was foregone in this.

Other than that…I know, I was pontificating…Rescue at Cardwell Ranch is a cozy suspense with a sweet, protective romance. And you might want to have some barbecue with coleslaw standing by!

The Story
It’s been too long for him. He needs to take someone now and this parking lot has possibilities. Good ones when McKenzie Sheldon comes walking out of the store too caught up in employee harassment issues. Thinking too hard on problems that distract her attention. Problems that do not find her ready to use those self-defense classes she took.

Hayes has his own family problems. In spite of the family resolve, Tag wants to open a branch up in Montana, and it’s Hayes’ job to dissuade him and…maybe break up his new relationship.

The Characters
The independent-minded McKenzie Sheldon is a realtor, a successful one who has to fire an employee. Shawna is McKenzie’s oldest sister (of nine!).

Hayes Cardwell is a private investigator up from Houston, Texas. Jackson is another brother, soured on marriage --- his wife wanted nothing to do with their newborn son, Ford. Austin, he’s a sheriff’s deputy, and Laramie are more brothers. Harlan Cardwell is Hayes’ father, but he never spent much time with the man nor his Uncle Angus (both are retired from the various government agencies for which they worked).

Tag is the brother who wants to open a Texas Boys Barbecue restaurant. He’s fallen in love with Lily McCabe, a math professor at Montana State University, and wants to stay with her in Montana.

Dana Cardwell Savage is his cousin (Angus is her dad), and she’s married to Hud, a local marshal. They have four kids now.

Realty
The selfish and self-absorbed Gus Thompson is the son of the previous owner, and he’s one of McKenzie’s best salespeople. Cynthia is her receptionist. Jennifer Robinson and Rafe are more of her salespeople.

He travels a lot, gives him lots of options and no ties to an area.

Officer Pamela Donovan will help Thompson out at the office. Bob Garwood and Jason Mathews and his wife, Emily, are some of the viewers at McKenzie’s open houses. Eric Winters.

Wanted Woman
This story of romantic suspense is a standalone taking place outside Seattle. The couple focus is on Maggie Randolph and Jesse Tanner.

My Take
The suspense starts right away with a mystery meeting and a lady clad in black leather on a motorcycle. It’s something of a soap opera revolving around the Dennisons. They have a bad past and a bad present, and it seems rather convenient that their worst nightmare is still making the papers.

Oh, man, I want Jesse’s cabin! It sounds so gorgeous with that view and those windows!

The soap continues with Jesse’s worries over his father’s affair all those years ago with Daisy Dennison. He’s falling for Maggie and if she were his half-sister…it could be so bad. It certainly adds a tension to the story!

Okay, I’m really confused over why, if Daisy is so worried about Wade trying to kill her, she’d give him a gun. Why would Bruno be invited to Roz’s party?

I liked this the best of Daniels’ stories so far. It’s got an unexpected twist that I enjoyed and when combined with a feisty heroine, well, it’s a fun read but not cozy. Tension, suspense, and plenty of drama.

The Story
What Drake has to say --- and the ambush that follows --- sends Maggie fleeing Seattle. She has to know the truth, even if it is truth that has destroyed her life.

It’s a close encounter with a convertible that brings Maggie to Jesse’s attention. That Desiree Dennison is a menace. Now her daddy’s locked up and her mama is fighting against his making bail.

And Jesse needs to know if Maggie Randolph could possibly be his half-sister.

The Characters
Maggie Randolph is the only child and heir of her now-deceased adoptive parents: Mildred and Paul Randolph. She was a miracle they received, considering their circumstances. Not such a miracle when her father was murdered after he learned the truth.

The wild and artistic Jesse Tanner is temporarily tamed, helping his brother out in Timber Falls. Mitch is the sheriff in Timber Falls and is engaged to Charity Jenkins, an intrepid newspaperwoman, editor, and publisher of the Cascade Courier. Mitch is also out of operation for a while with that busted leg. Aunt Florie is a self-proclaimed psychic related to Charity. Lee Tanner is their not-always-sober dad. Ruth is the mother who couldn’t wait to leave them. Matthew Brooks is Lee’s attorney. Art Fellers is the man Ruth married.

Desiree Dennison is the wild child daughter of Wade and his estranged wife, Daisy Dennison. Wade’s been buying Desiree out of trouble for years. Angela is the daughter who was kidnapped years ago. Zinnia is their housekeeper. Lydia Dennison Abernathy is a widow and crippled from the car accident that killed her husband, Henry. She runs the Busy Bee antique shop. Angus Smythe is her live-in help.

Bud Farnsworth was the production manager at Dennison Ducks. Frances Sanders is the new manager.

Liam Sawyer is single again and could be interested in Florie. Roz is his daughter, and she’s engaged to Ford Lancaster. Sissy Walker is the sheriff’s clerk. Betty runs Betty’s Café. Bruno, a.k.a., Jerome Lovelace, has a long list of minor crimes. Mary Jane Clark. Blaine is the high school kid who works for Charity. Albert is a friend at the Portland lab.

Norman Drake is not your usual informant; he’s simply a bookworm-turned-law-student-turned-law-assistant on the run. Clark Iverson was her father’s attorney. Detective Rupert Blackmore with the West Seattle PD is the cop in charge of the murder investigation. Teresa is the wife he adores. Williams is another cop. Wayne Dixon was Blackmore’s partner years ago.

The Cover
The cover is the plains with an unshaven blond cowboy atop his horse, straw Stetson in hand, weaving between railings, and silhouetted against a soft sunset.

The first title is true enough, for there is a Rescue at Cardwell Ranch while the second, Wanted Woman, does find Maggie with an APB issued for her. And, well, Jesse’s got his own, ahem, APB on her, lol.

I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review

This book was one of the first ones that I requested on NetGalley over 5 years ago and I just got around to reading it this year. I was initially attracted to the cover, and for some reason missed the fact that this was suspense while checking it out, and thought I'd be getting a pure cowboy romance. I mention all of this because my review is not very positive, so I wanted to be clear that some of that comes from the fact that this book is not one I would have expected myself to enjoy, and would not have requested, had I taken a closer look at it all those years ago.

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch:

I really hated this book. Not enough to give it 1 star for some reason, although I think that's merely because I was proud of myself for pushing through and actually finishing all 200 pages. My main issue with this book is the fact that I don't enjoy reading books where women are targeted to be harmed, and I DEFINITELY don't enjoy reading from the perspective of those that wish to cause women harm.

Besides for that main gripe, I felt the writing to be lacking, the romance to be filled with insta-love and absolutely no chemistry, and the plot to be very contrived and too creepy for my taste. I felt that many characters made dumb decisions based on pride or lust and just was not drawn in to any aspect of the story. The main reason I even finished this book was that it was short, and having had it on my TBR for so long, it was a book I wanted to challenge myself to get through. In the end I would give this book a 2 star rating, which I feel is quite generous, although I would not recommend it.

Wanted Woman:

While the first book in this bind up at least made me feel creeped out, this book just bored me. It had the same bland writing, the same one dimensional characters, and the same ridiculous insta-lust masquerading as romance. There were way too many plot points and criss-crossing stories and yet I cared about none of them. I didn't feel that there were any stakes, and was certain that everything would wrap up in a nice bow, which it did.

Overall:

In general, I was not impressed by either story. However, I'm further confused as to why these two stories were put into a single bind up as they weren't from the same series and didn't have much in common in some other way. While I began by stating that this is not my usual genre, this book did not impress me in any way or make me change my mind about the genre. If I ever do decide to read a suspense in the future though, it will definitely be by a different author.

Rescue at Caldwell Ranch - Caldwell Cousins Book 2 - B. J. Daniels
Wanted Women - Cascades Concealed Book 3 - B.J. Daniels

Saving her once was risky. Rescuing her again may be fatal.

When Hayes Cardwell arrived in Big Sky, Montana, for his brother's wedding, the Texas P.I. didn't expect to play hero. But ever since he saved her from a brutal abductor, he can't get McKenzie Sheldon out of his mind and heart.

McKenzie was drawn to Hayes from the moment she awoke and saw the tall, dark cowboy who'd saved her like some Western fantasy. But can he protect her from a danger that's much closer than they think?

In the reader-favorite Wanted Woman, Maggie Randolph was searching for something and running from someone. But she didn't plan on meeting a man she could…trust. Except Timber Falls deputy sheriff Jesse Tanner had to catch her before it was too late

This two books in one offers two stories filled with strong independent female in a suspenseful setting that has readers devouring the stories with glee. Both thrillers are peppered with romance and hunky heroes out to protect their damsels in distress.

My rating of "Rescue at Cardwell Ranch & Wanted Woman " is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

This was a two for one book and contained both Rescue at Cardwell Ranch and Wanted Woman. I think I have read this author once before but it’s been a while and so when I seen this one I thought it was about time to try her again and fell in love with the Cardwell Cowboys! Now I have to go and get the other books..my contemporary romance weakness is cowboys..lol.

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch

Hayes Cardwell is in Montana to tell his brother Tag that they do not want a Texas Boy’s Barbecue here in Montana. They agreed when they started the restaurants that they would stay in Texas. Tag has recently fell in love with a Montana woman and moved to Montana to be with her and has found a great spot for the restaurant. Hayes has been sent as out to be the bad guy and doesn’t now how to tell Tag. He is also out there to check out Lilly who is Tag’s fiance. The Cardwell’s are a little gun shy when it comes to marriage after what happened to their brother Jackson. (His wife left him and their little boy.)

McKenzie has worked hard to be where she is and she is use to being alone. She is now the owner of her own Realtor company and is happy and content. Then one night a man turned her world upside down when he tries to kidnap her. She fought back hard but in the end the man knocked her out and if it wasn’t for Hayes doing some late night grocery shopping she knows she would be dead. Hayes isn’t a hero he was just in the right place at the right time and doesn’t want any recognition, so it was his surprise when she turns up at the restaurant that Tag wants to buy and is the Realtor.

He seen a hint of fear and recognition in her eyes so he had to tell her that he was the man who stopped her attacker. He also feels like he must protect her, especially when it seems that the crazed man isn’t done with her. He wants her dead and he won’t stop until he finishes what he started. Neither Hayes or McKenzie are looking for a relationship but the more they are together the more things start to change. Hayes is starting to fall for this Montana woman if he can just keep her alive long enough to tell her.

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch was a great suspenseful romance, top that off with a sexy cowboy and you have the makings of a great read. McKenzie is a strong female character and a fighter. I hate females who don’t try and fight back when being attacked and even though she took self defense classes it shows you that when it really happens sometimes what you learned goes right out the window. She just didn’t let that stop her from fighting back..twice. She is definitely my kind of female character! Hayes is a PI who lives in Houston and one sexy cowboy. Him and his brothers also own a change of barbecue restaurants so it’s not like he has to work if he doesn’t want to because they have money, but he loves the work. He is a fierce protector when it comes to those whom he cares about, so what is there not to love about him!

I would recommend this to any one who loves great cowboy suspense romance reads! I am going to have to go back and read about all the Cardwell’s as I think this is one family I will love to read all about! I also just think I need to read some more BJ Daniels novels.

Wanted Woman

Wanted Woman was a good suspense romance and I enjoyed it.

Maggie finds out that she might have been kidnapped when she was a baby and the one person who wants to silence her is a police detective. After witnessing one man being shot and getting wounded herself she takes off for Timber Falls to find out if she was really kidnapped as a baby. She gets in an accident and Jessie Tanner offers to help her and ask no questions. He fixes her bike and gives her a place to sleep.

There was an attraction from the very beginning but once she sees his deputy uniform she bolts without saying goodbye.

Jessie knew there was something going on with Maggie and it is why he wrote down her license plate and then finds out that she is wanted in connection with a murder. He doesn’t believe she has anything to do with the murder but he knows she is in trouble. Now all he has to do is find her. She breaks into the newspaper office and Dennison Duck decoy place so he knows she is searching for information about the baby that went missing. He just needs her to trust him.

Along the way he finds out information that might put their attraction on a permanent hiatus and he so hopes that it is not true. The person who kidnapped that baby twenty seven years ago does not want to be found out and has put a lot of people down trying to keep their secret and if Jessie can’t help Maggie she might end up being next.

Wanted Woman has my next to favorite type of contemporary romances which is policemen. Even though this policeman was just temporary and more of a painter than cop, but I still liked it. Their is not a lot of steam or sensuality in this book, but there was sort of a reason for it and that made it okay. If you like romantic suspense then you might enjoy this one.

Over all my favorite of the two was Rescue at Cardwell Ranch but they were both good.

****** I have received this ARC for my honest review **********

Story 1: Rescue at Cardwell Ranch

This is the 5th book in the Cardwell Ranch Series. Hayes Cardwell is a Texas P.I. and goes to Montana for his brother's wedding. McKenzie Sheldon is the owner of a very successful real estate company.

After a late night grocery shopping at the local supermarket, Hayes was going to his car and saw a woman being assaulted in the parking lot. He immediately ran to stop the abduction that was happening. The attacker got away, Hayes called the police and ambulance. Mr. Cardwell advised the authorities not to release his name to the woman that was attacked.

Hayes and his other 4 brothers have a very successful BBQ restaurant chain back in TX. His brother Tag is not only getting married to a local woman in Montana, He also wants to open a BBQ restaurant in Montana. All five of them had agreed to keep the chain only in Texas. The others have sent Hayes's to change Tag's mind. Once he sees the space and see the real-estate agent. He starts to think it may not be a bad idea to have another restaurant in Montana.

After being attacked and not knowing who saved her McKenzie is not sure what is going on. She has always had to take care of herself. She shows up at an appointment for Tag Cardwell. He wants to open a BBQ restaurant in Montana. He is accompanied by his brother, She sees something in his eyes. Not sure what to think she freezes up and Hayes knows what she is thinking. After the meeting they all leave, Hayes returns to talk to McKenzie and explained who he is.

After a few more things happening, she takes Hayes's offer to stay at the Ranch. McKenzie is not sure who is the attacker, she thinks it's an employee that she fired. Only it's really a serial killer on the loose.

My view 1: Rescue at Cardwell Ranch

I have not read any other books in this series. It seems you can read this as a stand only book. I have enjoyed reading this story. I thought the characters had structure and melded together well. The story had a nice follow. It was an easy read.

*** If your list isn't to long, Place it on your To Be Read (TBR) list of books ***. You can read this while you are waiting for your next novel to become available. I am not sure if I would buy it, I don't see myself reading it again. I recommend you purchase this book, if it's something that you fell in love with.

Story 2: Wanted Woman

Maggie Randolph is the daughter of a wealthy family from California. Jesse Tanner a deputy sheriff in Timber Falls.

Maggie's mother died a few years ago, her dad died in a plane crash a few months back. She has just found out that his plane crash may not have been an accident. Jesse Tanner's brother Mitch is the local sheriff. He was recently shot and is recuperating. Jesse has stepped up to help him by becoming the deputy sheriff.

One night Jesse was on his outside desk overlooking the street. He saw a car hit a motorcycle. He got into his truck to see if he could help the guy that got hurt. Only when he got there , its wasn't a guy. I was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He took her back to his place for the night since she was shook up. She didn't want to go to the hospital.

She is running because she just witnessed a murder and she was almost killed during that killing. She knows that when she was little her parents had adopted her. She was just recently told she was kidnapped and came from Timber Falls. Jesse did some snooping around and found that Maggie has an APB out on her.

Their lives are more entwined than they know.

My view 2: Wanted Woman

Cute story, It was a little hard to follow at times. It seemed rushed at certain points. I would have been disappointed if this was in its own book. But since we got a two for one story in this book, it's worth reading.

*** If your list isn't to long, Place it on your To Be Read (TBR) list of books ***. You can read this while you are waiting for your next novel to become available. I am not sure if I would buy it, I don't see myself reading it again. I recommend you purchase this book, if it's something that you fell in love with.

Hayes Cardwell never thought he's end up being a hero when he travels from Texas to Montana on some family business. When he sees a woman being beaten and in the process of being thrown into the trunk of a car, Hayes springs into action to prevent that from happening, but would prefer to remain anonymous as he was just doing what any decent person would do.

Real estate owner and operator, McKenzie Sheldon thought she was one tough cookie, but that thought goes out the window when she is attacked with the clear intention of being abducted. She tries to put up the fight of her life, but being caught so off-guard leaves her at a disadvantage and the man who wants her is very determined. Luckily for McKenzie, a cowboy comes to her rescue before the worst scenario can happen, and the last thing she sees is the handsome cowboy who tells her she is safe. Hayes' remaining anonymous is short lived when he comes face to face with the lady he saves while scouting a property for the family business and his immediate attraction for her puts her in protection mode when he realizes she is still in danger.

Is McKenzie truly safe though? Not when the serial killer she thwarts becomes entirely obsessed with her downfall and he will bide his time to take her out. Hayes Cardwell will do almost anything to protect McKenzie, even if it means that she takes his heart in return. McKenzie has a lot on her plate aside from the insane serial killer on her tail. She has the business that's very important to her as well as the livelihoods of her workers, but when she lets her guard down for Hayes Cardwell, she sees that there are other things in life to look forward to besides work.

Another fabulous read by one of my favorite authors, RESCUE AT CARDWELL RANCH by B.J. Daniels is a fast paced ride filled with danger as well as romance. Never have I seen a killer so taken with getting the victim that got away. Nail-biting is definitely one of the side effects of RESCUE AT CARDWELL RANCH. Hayes Cardwell never wanted to be the hero but he just can't allow this evil to get a hold of the vulnerable McKenzie. I love how all the Cardwell men have an innate sense of honor that attracts these amazingly strong and intelligent females to their sides. The reader always gets a solid suspense before the budding romance. I am happy to report that I am never bored when delving into the world of B.J. Daniels with her easy to love heroes and heroines and her oh so unpredictable villains. Once again I can rest easy that the bad guys fall and true love reigns in the land of B.J. Daniels.

Whether you are new to B.J. Daniels or you have been a fan for a long time, you will appreciate this book! She combined two great stories into one book, this is an amazing deal!! These books do well together because they are both about strong, intelligent, independent women who find themselves in a situation where they now need the help of a complete stranger.

First there is Rescue at Cardwell Ranch. McKenzie Sheldon is a very successful Real Estate Agent in Montana. While doing her grocery shopping late one night she has become the next chosen victim of a serial killer. Hayes Cardwell is from Texas and has come to Montana to visit his family as well as take care of some business. When he first gets there it's late and he has no food or supplies, so he goes to the store to get some necessities. As he's getting ready to leave he notices a woman that is about to be abducted by a man in the parking lot. Hayes runs over to help her and saves her from the attacker. After that McKenzie and Hayes continue to keep running into each other. McKenzie is very used to doing things her own way and on her own schedule, but now she has found that she must depend on the stranger that saved her to keep her safe.

The next book is Wanted Woman. Maggie Randolph comes from a wealthy family but since the passing of her father she has come to realize it may have been more than just an accident. Late one night she is meeting the man that knows what really happened, when suddenly someone starts to shoot at them. Luckily she is able to get away. She uses the little information she was given to try to find out more about her history and why anyone would be after her. Jesse Tanner just happened to be outside one night when he saw a motorcycle get hit by a car. He got to the rider as quick as he could and found that she was okay other than a few bumps and bruises. Maggie is grateful for the help of this stranger but she is searching for information and doesn't want to involve anyone else. As luck would have it, Maggie and Jesse keep crossing paths. Maggie finally realizes that there is more to the man that helped her and she will need him to find the answers she looking for.

I think that the personalities of both couples compliment each other very well. Both McKenzie and Maggie are strong and independent and like to take care of themselves. Hayes and Jesse are both enjoying the life of a bachelor, but once they saved the girl they realize that she stole their heart.

These are two wonderful stories put into one book. They are both about strong women who are put into situations that has them depending on a total stranger to help them out.

First in Rescue at Cardwell Ranch, Mackenzie Sheldon is attacked at night in the parking lot of a grocery store by a serial killer. Hayes Cardwell happens to be there and is able to save her, but the bad guy gets away. They run into each other the next day when she is the realtor that him and his brother are meeting. Mackenzie is an strong independent woman and likes to do things her way, she fries to get Hayes to just leave things alone. Hayes is an successful P.I. from Texas and is willing to stay in Montana as long as it takes to keep her safe and to catch the killer. When she realizes the killer is still after her, she must learn to depend on Hayes to protect her and keep her safe. Neither expect to fall for one another.

This was an excellent suspense filled romance. I loved Mackenzie's character, her independence and will to survive and get through are inspiring. Hayes is a natural born protector and he won't give up until he catches the killer. They compliment each other very well. Great book and I definitely recommend it.

Wanted Woman is about another strong independent woman, Maggie Randolph. From the very first page you are drawn in to the mystery. She is meeting someone in middle of the night on a long dark pier. When shots are fired, she is stunned to see who the shooter is. She manages to get a little information from the man she is meeting before he dies. She learns that she was kidnapped and it leads her to Timber Falls. Jesse Tanner is helping his brother out by filling in for him as deputy of their small town while he is recovering from being shot. He witnesses a hit and run and this is where he meets Maggie, he brings her home and fixes her bike for her. There are many suspects when it comes to the kidnapping and it will shock you to find who was behind it. I loved all the characters of this book. Like the previous book I feel that Maggie and Jesse complimented each other very well. It was full of suspense and in the end we get the romance.

Both books will keep you guessing and not wanting to put it down, I enjoyed both books immensely. I definitely recommend this book.

I was given a copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars - 4 stars for Rescue at Cardwell Ranch and 3 stars for Wanted Woman

This book brings together stories from two of B.J. Daniels' romantic suspense series - Cardwell Ranch and Cascades Concealed.

First is the story of Hayes Cardwell, the PI of the Texas-based Cardwell brothers, and his rescue of McKensie Sheldon, a Big Sky Realtor, from an abductor. Having read the previous novels in the Cardwell Ranch series, this installment was what I've come to expect. There was chemistry and suspense galore throughout. Wondering when and how they were going to finally put a stop to the menace kept me turning the pages at a good clip and sneaking in a few pages whenever possible.

As usual, there was a glimpse at the characters from the previous stories, though I think those appearance were even more minor than prior installments. This story could certainly be read as a stand alone without sacrificing enjoyment.

The second story is this book, Wanted Woman, the third story of the Cascades Concealed trilogy resurrected from 2004. I found this story of artist and reluctant sheriff's deputy, Jesse Tanner, and motorcycle riding Maggie Randolph quite different from the first story. While there was chemistry, the fact that it was being denied and pushed to the side so much throughout much of the story put the focus much more on the suspense and mystery elements. It didn't really push my romance buttons and I wasn't quite as driven to finish this story as the first.

I have not read any of the previous Cascades Concealed books so I do not know if that was to blame for my luke-warm feeling on the second book or not. I did appreciate that the two stories had significantly different sorts of plots. I prefer to not read books by the same author back to back, but there were enough differences between these two that I do not think it impacted my enjoyment of the stories.

I received an e-galley copy of this title in exchange for my honest review. The views expressed above are my own.

4 STARS

I liked both stories. They had good suspense of the murder till the end. Strong female characters and heroes.

In Rescue at Cardwell Ranch we meet another Cardwell from the Texas Cardwells. Hayes Cardwell flies into Montana to talk his brother out of opening another of their family restraint. Hayes stop at a grocery store for something to eat and when he comes out he is in
time to rescue

McKenzie owns her own real estate business. She stops by the grocery store late. As she is walking to her car she is grabbed she fights back but is knocked out. Hayes sees her in time to stop the guy.

The next day they meet again as McKenzie is the real estate agent that his brother is using for the restaurant. McKenzie feels like someone is still watching her. Hayes offers to help her again.

Their is a lot of drama, suspense, lots of old familiar characters and new ones, some action and romance.

Wanted Woman starts right off with the suspense. Maggie is meeting someone in a lonely dark foggy place at night. When shots are fired. She can't believe who she sees before she is shot and falls into the water.

Maggie is now in danger and finds out she was kidnapped as a baby and from where. She is almost to the small town when she is hit by a car.

Jesse Tanner is filling in as a deputy as his brother was shot and layed up. Jesse sees the hit and run from a distance. He finds Maggie and take her home with him.

Their are a lot of suspects into her kidnapping as a child. To cover up something about it three new deaths have happened. Maggie is wanted by the cops. Or at least one dirty cop.

I wanted a little more in depth of the kidnapping and why but it was good and keeps you guessing till the end.

I like B.J. Daniels stories and will continue to read her books.

I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley.

Great Book, Action Packed, Exciting, Nice Romances...

I really enjoyed both of these titles. They come from 2 different series. My thoughts on both:

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch:

I really enjoyed this book. It's the first in the Cardwell Cousins Series. The story line was very interesting. The book was action packed and there was non-stop excitement the entire book. The romance was nice and enjoyable. I really liked both Hayes and McKenzie. The rest of the family got me interested in reading their stories as well.

I've read a couple other books by B.J. Daniels in the Beartooth series and I really like her style of writing. She writes great mysteries that keep you guessing that are thrilling and filled with romance too. I can't wait to read more in this series.

I think this is a great start to what promises to be an exciting series and I would recommend it.

Wanted Woman:

This is the 3rd and final book in the Cascades Concealed series. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to read the first 2 book but that thankfully that wasn't a problem following along with this book. It can be read as a stand-alone book no problem.

The storyline was very interesting to me and I really enjoyed Maggie and Jesse. The book was full of non-stop action and excitement. I had fun trying to solve the mystery and it kept me guessing until the very end.

The romance was nice and slow in this book but it was for a good reason that is part of they mystery in this book. I won't give it away but you could really feel the chemistry and couldn't wait for their love to take off.

I found this book to be very enjoyable and I would recommend reading it with or without the rest of the series.

* I really enjoyed both titles in this book and I would recommend it.

Contemporary, Romance

Montana

Hayes Cardwell is a P.I. from Texas that is in Big Sky, Montana for his brother’s wedding. He expected to spend time with his brother not playing hero. Luckily Hayes managed to save McKenzie Sheldon from a brutal abductor. Since then he hasn’t been able to get her out of his mind or his heart.

McKenzie awoke to see a tall, dark cowboy that saved her from an attack. Since that moment she has felt drawn to Hayes like a Western fantasy. The danger though is closer than either one thinks it is and they will find out if Hayes will be able to protect her from what is coming.

Washington & Oregon

Maggie Randolph is running from someone while she is searching for something she needs to find. What she never expected was on meeting a man that she can actually trust.

Jesse Tanner is a deputy sheriff for the small town of Timber Falls. Now he has to catch Maggie before it is too late for her.

This is two stories in one book. It gives the reader plenty of mystery and action and each one will have the reader trying to guess just who is behind what is going on in the stories. With the twists and turns each story takes they are sure to keep the reader from wanting to put down the book because they will want to find out just how each one ends. There are plenty of suspects for readers to choose from and they keep the story moving at a fast pace that does not disappoint in the least. The stories aren’t connected so it is easy to read one and come back later for the other one. The plot of each story is different and engrossing to the point they make it hard to put either one down for any reason. It is definitely worth taking the time picking up and reading.

4.5 Stars

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat, it had everything I love in a Romantic Suspense story, it had a villain that I could hate, it gave me the feeling that the villain might actually win. McKenzie and Hayes are great together, I liked that McKenzie is a strong heroine that wanted to stand up for herself and not let the bad guy win. I loved that Hayes was so protective of her.

It’s a quick read, but very satisfying. I was so wrapped up in the story that it flew by. I highly recommend this one.

This book came with the bonus book Wanted Woman, and it was also a suspenseful and interesting read. It isn’t as romantic as the first, because Jesse and Maggie spend a lot of time apart, but when they do get together, it’s obvious that they have strong feelings for each other. I was kept guessing with this one, and it took a while for me to figure out the villain, and I love that!

I enjoyed the second story as much if not more than the first, and so I can easily recommend this combo book to anyone. This book will make you a fan of BJ Daniels!

A serial predator of women finds that in Montana, with its relatively low crime rate, he can stalk women in small towns and the law have too much area to cover to catch him. At the start of this book one young woman in Bozeman, called McKenzie Sheldon, is grabbed in a dark parking lot and only her memory of a self-defence course saves her. As she's fighting to escape being bundled into a car, a Texas man who's just arrived in town spots the fracas and comes to her aid.

This man is Hayes, a relative of Dana Cardwell and his brother is going to marry a town girl - we met them in the previous book. Hayes has come up to persuade his brother not to open a branch of their chain of barbecue restaurants in Montana. The family want to stick to Texas. I could not see what their issue was provided the restaurant was run to high standards.

McKenzie runs an estate agency and one of the staff is a creep who has been giving her strange looks. She fires him, so now she has two enemies. The Cardwell ranch folks offer McKenzie a guest cabin to keep her safe as there is a chance that the stalker thinks she may be able to identify him.

Newcomers to the series will have no trouble fitting in and old hands will enjoy meeting their favourite characters.

I totally LOVED these two stories, which were page turners. Both of these stories kept me up late at night just to finish them. This is one author who knows how to write a story and get you hooked. You find you cannot wait until you have finished it to find out who done it, but you hate the story is over. The author has many twist and turns that will keep you guessing until the end, she is full of many surprises. Just when you think you have it worked out you find you do not. You cannot go wrong with any of this authors work. I have read a few of her books and she has never let me know.

Rescue at Cardwell Ranch I wish a little more was know about the women who know, did she go away or did she try to do get even? I never saw who the killer was, was really surprised to find out who it truly was. I don’t think anyone who lived there would have guessed it either.
Wanted Woman has me on the edge of my seat the whole way through it. I was really surprised to find out who it was. I did feel so sorry for the two women who had to deal with the issues of who their parents were.

I tried my first B.J. Daniels story a year ago and was immediately hooked. Rescue From Cardwell Ranch brings another Cardwell brother to Montana. Hayes Cardwell and McKenzie Sheldon are two very driven characters. Neither expects romance or the danger that bring them together. I loved how both had to change their perceptions and how smoothly those changes helped bring them together.

B.J. Daniels has written another heart stopping story that kept me guessing the entire time. I loved how both Texas and Montana were part of the story line. We now have two Cardwell bothers with a HEA. I have to wonder what kind of exciting adventures Daniels has in story for the others.

I enjoyed Wanted Woman. Like Rescue At Cardwell Ranch it had great main characters and a plot full of tension.

I received this from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a novel with two stories inside of it. The first one was easy to fall into and read. The second one I just never felt attached to it. The first story, Rescue at Cardwell Ranch the main characters were easy to like. While McKenzie did things that made you scream right along with Haves she was like the rest of the women. Strong willed and determined and you have to like that inside of stories.

Not sure what it was about Wanted Woman but I never felt bonded with the characters and because of that I just couldn't finish it. I really tried but maybe it just wasn't for me.

So as good as the first one was, (I'd give it alone a 4.5) the second just wasn't there and so I am going to give this a 3.5 star. But like I said, maybe it just wasn't for me.

This was actually a dual book that rocked! The copy I got from NetGalley was Rescue at Cardwell Ranch and Wanted Woman. Both stories were great.

Rescue follows some of the Cardwell family. I haven't read any of their books, but it was certainly a great story. Hayes rescues a woman from being abducted and trust me, you'll be guessing until the end as to who it is. The story is dramatic and sexy at the same time. It was a great read!

Wanted Woman blew me away. I loved the suspense, guessing who had kidnapped baby Angela, where everything tied in together. It was my favorite out of the two books in this bundle. But so worth it!

The Cardwell Family novels from BJ Daniels will continue to be favorites of mine. I met the family in Christmas at Cardwell Ranch late last year and fell in love with the characters. I felt like I was visiting old friends again. In true Cardwell fashion, Hayes saves a woman from being abducted; and in cowboy fashion, he stays in town to protect her. Yet, the only way to draw the abductor out in the open is to have McKenzie be the bait. Can he keep her safe? Add in the extended Cardwell family and you have a story of strong family bonds, intrigue and a love story!
I look forward to more great Cardwell family stories!

1st Rescue at Cardwell Ranch: ok there was a lot going on; wedding plans, opening a new bbq location, guys who just cant understand no, a serial killer and the serial killers wife who knew the whole time. It took me awhile to figure out who the serial killer was but what threw me for the loop was when the serial killer's wife was in her hospital room and was giving a hateful look because she was mad that the woman was alive and her husband was dead.

2nd Wanted Woman: WOW...I didn't know who had stole the baby until the end and it's messed up who it is and the reason why they did it. All I can say is WOW.

I liked rescue at Cardwell Ranch a lot.
The hero who comes in and saves the lady is always a great story. The combination of the two characters just seem to flow as you read it. I like the idea of the good Samaritan coming to the rescue of someone in need.
You will like it also.

Wanted Woman.
Just didn’t do it for me. I almost had to fight to get through it. While he tries to help her she just tries to go her own way. There was something about the two of these characters that I couldn’t get in my mind that they should be together

This book had 2 different stories as the title says. I am not sure which story I liked better. But the Wanted Woman story to me had more action. Rescue at Cardwell Ranch reminded me of a episode of Criminal Minds. These are pretty quick reads if you sit down and stay focused. I got this copy through Netgalley. This book is by BJ Daniels and Harlequin. This came out on May 27, 2014. So if you like a little mystery and romance these stories are spot on in giving that.

Both of these books were great but I would have to say that I liked Wanted Woman a little more even though it was a love at first sight type of romance.
Mckenzie and Hayes are both very likable characters both are very headstrong and stubborn.
Maggie and Jesse are both as likable.
I've read this book twice now and I can't seem to find anything wrong with either one except for the fact that I had not read the Cardwell Cousins #1 or Cascades Concealed #1 or #2.
