Another good read, I have to say I am really enjoying this authors books. A very good crime story, many twists and I did not see the end coming, had no idea who the killer was until the very end. Just the way I like it. Will be reading more of Joanne's books
This book reads like it was written by someone in high school. It was not well researched regarding police/legal procedures. Either that or there are a lot of people in Irish prisons put there on the flimsiest of circumstantial evidence. There are unnecessary descriptions and misplaced descriptions. Why wait until the end of the novel to describe one of the main characters?
This author has potential, but needs to pay more attention to details.
I received a free download of "Masked" by Joanne Clancy in exchange for an honest review. This is a crime thriller at it's best! I loved it.
In a quite wealthy neighbour of Oatstown, located a few miles outside Cork City, Ireland a man was shot to death in his Oakstown home. The victim was 48 year old Brett Ford, a millionaire, who was living with his girlfriend Diana and his two children, Scarlett and Ryan 16 year old twins, since the death of their mother.
The victim was found by the daughter, after hearing a loud noise late at night, she goes to investigate. She found her father in the kitchen in a pool of blood. Scarlett called 911, and detective Charlie Scott and her partner detective Alan Walsh were called to the scene to investigate.
There were five gunshots all to the torso, at close range. There were no signs of struggle in the kitchen, and no eyewitnesses and no murder weapon was found. The front door had been wide open, and a key in the lock, another key lying on the ground outside. But who had the motive, opportunity and means to carry out this horrendous crime?
Al eyes point to Diana, a cunning intelligent gold-digger, who played the part of a devoted girlfriend, while she acted as a wealthy businesswoman. She unitized the online dating sites to pick up her next prey...to spend his money. Diana was a flirt and spent most of her time at the club, with Oliver Williams, her tennis instructor and lover. Was this a murder-for-profit scheme? Diana would definitely benefit a significant financial gain from Brett's death.
This was an excellent crime novel where the whodunit isn't revealed until the end. I was totally engaged in this novel trying to piece together the clues and solve the crime, where the identity of the killer constantly changes. This novel was as good as the "Unfaithful Trilogy". A definite 5 star rating. Don't miss out on this one!
I received this book from the Author, Joanne Clancy, in return for a truthful and honest review of it.
In a town called Oakstown, where there is a street called Plunkett Row, better know as 'Millionaires Row', Brent Ford resides at No. 1 with his 16 year old twins Ryan and Scarlett and his girlfriend Diana Thomas. His 21 year old daughter Naomi (who is the result of a brief affair Brent had with his secretary) lives in France while attending the Sorbonne on a scholarship. After the death of his wife, Rose, he continued living on Plunkett Row because he and his late wife loved this home and Brent felt it showed the world he had made his fortune. But on December 2, 2005, a sound woke Scarlett and she went to the kitchen to investigate and found her father on the floor in a pool of blood. Detective Charlie Scott and her partner Detective Alan Walsh are on the case. As the investigation progressed, it became clear to them that Ford's girlfriend, Diana had had several affairs even as she begged Brent to marry her. Diana enjoyed the lifestyle of having rich men to shower her with money and expensive gifts, but Brent was adamant and truthful with Diana about not marrying her so her running around continued. Det. Scott and Walsh were positive Diana was the murderer but they just didn't have enought evidence to make it stick. As the years went by Det. Scott's thoughts were constantly on the unsolved Ford murder case and she was vigilant of where and what Diana was up to. But would she ever find enough evidence to put this convict behind bars and give the Ford children their much deserved closure!
This is Joanne Clancy's work at her best! A fabulous story that I just couldn't put down. Kept me guessing right up to the last page! Excellent!!!
Brent Ford is a multi-millionaire. he has it all; the blonde bombshell girlfriend half his age, a mansion, dream family with twins who are 16. it all comes crashing down the night of December 2, 2005 when his 16 year old daughter goes downstairs and finds him in the kitchen with his life's blood around him in a pool on the floor. Who would do this? why? was it the girlfriend? was his angst-ridden teenage son? someone at work?
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and honestly I loved it! As the story kicks off I became sucked in and couldn't stop. I did not see the twists coming and didn't know until the end who did what to who!! another amazing book by Joanne Clancy!! Can't wait for the next book!!!
Joanne Clancy has done it again. I love her descriptive writing and great plots. Here, Brent Ford is found dead downstairs by his daughter. He lives with Scarlett, her twin brother and his materialistic girlfriend. His eldest daughter lives in Paris. The case remains unsolved for quite some time despite the determination of the detectives to find the killer. I thought I had the answer but of course I was wrong. I loved the book and the plot twist at the end. I won't give anything else away, but I highly recommend this book and author. An easy five stars from me!
Gosh, after the Tana French, I was willing to tolerate a certain level of difference in quality, but this was too much to ignore for quality of writing in a similar genre. Dull dialogue and action style, a couple of non sequitors (e.g. daughter asking why her da would be killed tho the call to announce his death does not mention murder), at least one homonymic spelling error that I noticed, and mostly the dull dialogue and way to move on in the action. Cliched characterization should be mentioned, as well as repeated information, sometimes because there was a change in character, sometimes not, but for me to notice it and actually give up the attempt to drag on, these had to be pretty close together. One was in the same chapter, the other was end of one chapter, beginning of next but by the omniscient narrator, whoever that is, since we moved vaguely between points of view of 2 or the same character. I hope this is the least well done of her books.
It's not that I'm a gung-ho lit crit, especially in this genre, but this one simply ticked me off.
Joanne Clancy is one of those amazing authors that can take you out of your comfort zone and I mean that literally because wherever you’re reading her books from, you won’t be on that bed, couch or chair for very long. You’ll be transported into another world entirely when she invites you into a story and you go willingly into the unknown when you’re faced with the horrible things that people can do to each other, but you’ll come out the other end satisfied and happy to have taken the journey. It might be somewhere like with this book that you’d like to visit, when it involves gorgeous places in Ireland or getting to know the beautiful rich people and how they live their lives. And in there as well is not somewhere you’d particularly want to be, because it’s never very nice to witness a murder but you can’t look away or put the book down in this case and do nothing but stand on the sidelines while you watch a family fall apart or a detective struggle to bring the perpetrator to justice, or even seemingly get away with it for six years. This is another fascinating crime thriller from a master of suspense at work and I thought I had it all worked out when I agreed with the police as to ‘who done it’ and it was only a matter of time before that woman and her man went down for what they did and I was right about that but I was also very, very wrong. So with a great twist in the tale nearing the conclusion, you’ll finally discover the truth too. That is, if you read this brilliantly written and intriguing book to add to your favourites in this exciting genre.
I received this book from the Author, Joanne Clancy, in return for a honest review. I enjoyed reading this book. It is not my favorite story by this author. I would have liked to see a little more character development especially from Charlie, Naomi, and Brent's other kids. But other wise an entertaining read with a good twist on the end.
Not a bad book exactly. I wasn't a big fan of its style. Seems to be written in reporter-style or true crime. It was set on Ireland with a policewoman as the main protagonist. She was a nice enough character but like every person in the book -- very one-dimensional. And by the end, I had figured out the answer but no longer cared.
This crime/mystery novel was a fantastic read. Even though I'm used to reading Ms. Clancy's romance novels, this mystery did not disappoint. Her usual character development and thoughtful plot keeps your flipping the pages.
I just want to know: when will Naomi show up next?!
I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads . I enjoyed reading this book .I will be looking for more books from the author in the future , Great book !!
Truly did not see this coming. It was awesome. The twists and turns to this who-done-it were amazing. It held my attention to the very end and then left you with the word - WHAAAAAT!
