Witness to Christ is Stewart Custer’s commentary on Acts for personal Bible study or sermon preparation. Longtime chairman of the Division of Bible at Bob Jones University, Custer blends expertise and gentleness. Original translation and practical applications accompany his exposition. Notes offer sermon outlines and highlight important terms. Includes topical and Scripture indexes and an annotated bibliography.
This volume has a special place in my heart. I worked through it while in H.S. when the Lord was really starting to give me a hunger for Him in His Word. Then I found his end of chapter applications so helpful spiritually. A few years down the road I still found it helpful, but in terms of detailed exposition, you need to look somewhere else. In terms of resolute faith in the authority of God's Word and faithfulness in interpretation, you can't go wrong with what Custer says here.
11 Commentaries I used cover to cover through an expositional series through the book of Acts. Of course, this ranking doesn't take into account that some that are lower were higher in specific ways, but all of these "made the cut" for me to spend the time each week to read. 1. Peterson, Schnabel, Polhill 2. Bock 3. Bruce 4. Kistemaker 5. Marshall, Stott 6. MacArthur 7. Custer, Kent
A good overview of Acts. I appreciate Dr. Custer's desire to distill the truths from the book Acts and present them in simple straightforward usable fashion
