Very nicely written. Surely there is newer research available today, but apparently we live in the world of largely crappy written new research. Style is paramount (unlike the research which will be nullified by a new research next year).

Equal parts titillating and tedious: some interesting scholarship (with endnotes corresponding to a particular work rather than sequence of reference for convenience) that makes this more of a portal to other texts than one worth reading for its own merits.
