SO GOOD. Pam Moore served in Holland alongside Brother Andrew and later as Corrie ten Boom’s companion and caretaker for the last years of her public ministry into her stroke-affected silent years, faithfully serving Corrie until she died.
What an encouragement this autobiography is as it gives account after account of surrender to the Lord (including decades of singleness) and the joy He gives when we trust Him to lead our borrowed lives.
Highly recommend, especially if you’re a fan of The Hiding Place and Corrie ten Boom.
What a great book! Gotta love autobiographies! I really appreciate how she explains her thought processes in her decisions and moments of surrender. This book demonstrates the beauty and blessing of surrendering all aspects of our lives to our Father who gifts each circumstance to us in his gracious fatherly wisdom. Also, it is an encouragement in the area of singleness and how that is a gift and how it can be used to the glory of God (and our good).
Fantastic!! What an encouraging, challenging, and inspiring autobiography of a woman who surrendered her entire life, including her desires and “rights”, to the Lord. I loved that she wove her struggle with singleness alongside the incredible blessings and adventures of 21 years of single adulthood for serving the Lord. (Yeah spoiler, she does get married!)
This book also encouraged me that the Lord loves and cares for the “background people” as much as the famous people that they serve alongside. ❤️

My favorite kind of story-a testimony to God's faithfulness. The author surrenders her deepest desires to God, is taken by him into all that she fears most, and experiences God's great blessing in return. Also an interesting "behind the scenes" perspective on the ministry of Corrie ten Boom.
If you've never heard of this book it's because it's out of print. However, it was recommended to me by a sweet friend who read it before she moved overseas for the first time back in the early 2000s and I am so glad she did. I tracked down a copy on Abebooks.com if you're interested and trust me it is worth it to track down!
This book was hugely impactful to me as not only a believer/woman of God but also as a single woman pursuing God's calling on my life and someone living in Eastern Europe.
Safer Than a Known Way is an autobiographical story of Pamela Rosewell, a woman from England who became a believer when she was college-age and told God that she didn't want to become a Missionary, she never wanted to do public speaking, and she didn't want to be single and over the course of 20 years, she had to die to herself and surrender every one of those things again and again to the Lord. But that opened her up to the amazing plans that God had for her including serving in Kenya with the foreign mission there in the early 60s, working with Brother Andrew and his ministry smuggling Bibles behind the Iron Curtain, becoming a companion to Corrie ten Boom (author of Hiding Place) through the end of her life, and eventually going on to write and speak about those experiences.
For me personally, I currently live in one of the former Iron Curtain countries Moore discusses in this book and so her perspective while working with Brother Andrew in Holland and in Eastern Europe was invaluable. I relate very closely to her life stage in the first half of her book and so I took a lot away from her experiences and testimony.
Her story is so fantastic, especially having read God's Smuggler (Brother Andrew's story) previously and now feeling the need to read Hiding Place, and I highly recommend it to anyone.
I can’t even recall who recommended this month’s book to me. Then it sat in my ever-growing Amazon Wish List for an appalling amount of time. But, oh my Friend, I am so glad I finally bought it (and then promptly devoured it)! It’s called Safer Than a Known Way and it has blessed my heart to no end. This unassuming treasure was written by Pamela Rosewell Moore, a woman who started her adulthood rebellious and set on her own plans. But God captured her heart and little by little she surrendered her plans and “I-will-never’s” and watched in astonishment as the Lord gave her more than she ever dreamed possible. She lived a life of adventure, although a sedate life had been her childish wish. She worked with ministers like Brother Andrew and Corrie ten Boom, caring for Corrie the last seven years of her life. I was born in the 70’s, and blessed to be nourished with stories of modern heroes of the faith, possibly chief among them: Corrie ten Boom. So it was a thrill to read not only details of beloved Corrie, but also the process of surrender that led Pamela to live a life experiencing God’s goodness. If your heart needs a boost, give this book a read.
A great narrative of a woman who learned surrender to Christ through all different seasons of life. She worked with Brother Andrew in Holland and was the personal assistant of Corrie Ten Boom in her last years of ministry. I found this book really encouraging and a strong testament to God's faithfulness and His work in a person's heart. The quote that the title comes from is '... but I do know this: when I surrender to Him, I am safer than if I had chosen a known way.' What a comfort this book is!
This is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the last part of Corrie ten Boom’s life as well as a dramatic account of the amazing work God did in Pamela’s own life. The dependence on God and the faith that prayers would be answered is the over-arching theme. The end of the book contains a twist that I never saw coming and that provides a great deal of good for thought.
More than just the story of a young woman... going into the unknown adventure of assisting Corrie ten Boom, a well known evangelist -- it is more than that -- it is about we, ourselves, looking inward to trust, to know, to explore our own ability to trust God when we cannot see into our own future.
One of my all time favorites, re-read many times, given as gifts, and a book that I too carry as a reference book as I travel my own life's journey.
I highly recommend anything written by this author!
One of my favorites. Pamela Rosewell was afraid to surrender to Christ because she feared He would ask her to face her three deepest fears: leave her beloved England, speak in public, and remain single for life. God's love won out, and she surrendered even those fears. The adventures God guided her on after that included Kenya, the Netherlands, America, Brother Andrew, Corrie ten Boom -- and deeper joy than she would have guessed.
This was my second read. "Safer Than a Known Way" is one of the greatest written testimonies on coming to faith. On a personal level, I found a lot of similarities between our journeys. I would recommend this to anyone, especially those who wonder and/or question where God is leading them.
I read this book in college and then found it again after 20 years oddly enough, and really was struck by how timeless the message was once again. Mrs. Moore has definitely led an adventerous life.
Wonderful book! There is much to be gained from this glimpse into the life of a woman who determined to be wholly surrendered to her God. The book also allows some wonderful insight into the lives of both Brother Andrew and Corrie Ten Boom. Highly recommended reading!
Pamela is wonderfully honest in her autobiography. She shares her experience/adventure/walk of faith as she of lets go of her right to choose her own way and follows the Lord as He leads her on a remarkable journey.
