Real name: Jo Ann Vest
Pseudonyms: Joanna Wayne.

Joanna Wayne began her professional writing career with the release of her first novel, DEEP IN THE BAYOU, in 1994, but Joanna will be the first to tell you that the wheels were set in motion years before. She started reading at four years of age, the same age that she began making weekly trips to the library to check out as many books as they’d let her have, only to finish reading them all before bedtime. That love of books never waned.

Joanna was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and was the middle child of a large family. She moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1984 when she married her current husband. New Orleans opened up a whole new realm of activities and she found the mix of cultures, music, history, food and sultry southern classics along with her love of reading a natural impetus for beginning her writing career. It was there that she attended her first writing class and joined her first professional writing organization. From that point on, there was no looking back.

Now, forty published books later, Joanna has made a name for herself as being on the cutting edge of romantic suspense in both series and mainstream novels. She is known for the suspense and emotion she brings to the page, as she takes ordinary people and thrusts them into life-and-death situations. She has been on the Walden Bestselling List for romance and won many industry awards. She is a popular speaker at writing organizations and local community functions and has taught creative writing at the University of New Orleans Metropolitan College.

She currently resides in a small community forty miles north of Houston, Texas with her husband. Though she still has many family and emotional ties to Louisiana, she loves living in the Lone Star state.

This is a book series that can be read as a standalone. I read this book several years ago, and this year I read book 4. Both were good, and I look forward to reading the others. This book had a strange, and twisted plot. Jack and Kelly knew each other in high school. They shared one special night together before going their separate ways. Many years later Kelly is now married to Nick out of convenience. Nick is a movie star. Nick lives a wild life, and has many friends that he hangs out with. Kelly spends her time taking care of her daughter. Nick hires Jack to protect his wife, and daughter. The next day Nick gets shot. The rest of the book is Kelly, and Jack working together to find out who was behind the shooting. The suspense was good, and my heart went out to Kelly for everything she was going through.

Kelly Warner is in an in-name-only marriage with her movie star husband, Nick, because she discovered that he was gay. One night, someone breaks into her home and threatens her, and kills a guard, claiming he is looking for Nick. Nick hires bodyguard Jack Sanders, who it turns out Kelly had a one-night stand with 14 years ago, to keep a watch on her. When Nick is murdered and there is another attack on Kelly, they must work together to uncover what secrets Nick might have been hiding.

This was a quick, decent read. I finished it in one go. Although it is blindingly obvious who the killer is, the plot was still relatively complex and well put together. The romance was effective enough. Jack clearly loves Kelly. His conflict over whether Kelly's interest in him could be related to her feelings of betrayal about Nick was believable and well rendered. Unfortunately, the book's biggest drawback is Kelly herself. What a whiny, critical, poor-me, life-is-too-hard, judgmental pain in the ass! She complains about everything. She was insufferable! She really did my head in.

An enjoyable romantic suspense story that won't wow you, but it's certainly not a waste of time.

Are you fucking kidding me? This guy is supposed to be some investigative genius and he can't figure out it's the agent until the last fucking minute?!? NO. The romance was so-so and blah, but the mystery? What fucking mystery? THE ACTOR FUCKING DIED RIGHT AFTER BEING VISITED BY HIS AGENT (manager, whatever the fuck it was). I don't CARE if they didn't give him good odds, that coupled with the attempted murder of the wife should have been a warning sign. Along with the will AND EVERYFUCKINGTHING ELSE.

A very nice Romantic/Suspense, although at first it looks like just another “damsel in distress” story, Joanna Wayne adds that magical touch that makes it more. She is a Harlequin Intrigue writer that I am always on the look out for.!

Blah. It is glaringly obvious throughout the entire book who the bad guy is. Fail.
