A lot of characters, pretty complicated. It sorts out after a while, but it took me a while to figure out what the author was trying to do.

Ford Lancaster has secrets he's loathe to share when he seeks to keep Rozalyn Sawyer safe, but it seems every time she's in danger of dying--by accident or implied suicide--she learns a little more about why he's come to town and what he's really after.

Trouble is, she too has secrets, though the town seems to know all there is to know about her mother's death, but now her father's in the hospital in a coma. Will Roz lose him, too? And did her mother really commit suicide, or was someone else behind that tragedy, and why?

So many questions asked, but not all of them readily answered. And then there's that on-again, off-again attraction between the newspaper reporter and the sheriff. What's going to happen there?

You know that feeling you get walking through a haunted house? This book had that vibe to it. Rozalyn’s mom passed away in her childhood house. She left the town of Tember falls as fast as she could. Years later, she rushed back when she got a strange phone call from her dad. She gets home to find her dad in the hospital in a coma. She doesn’t trust his new wife, her kids. The suspense was good throughout the book.

Couldn't put the book down. Had to read to the conclusion. Very suspenseful. Some of the details could have been worked out better.

This book had some pretty good twists and turns. The plot had pretty good progression and it was a very quick and easy read. The only thing I didn't like was how rushed the romantic aspect was at the end. It had a great slow burn throughout the book, then just flipped and hurried it along.

Book two of the Cascades Concealed Series is the story of Rozalyn and Ford. If you haven't read to first book, please do that. This book builds on the characters introduced in that one. In addition, there is a mystery that carries from the first book. Although a short Harlequin Intrigue mystery, B.J. Daniels does an excellent job with both plot and characters. I have read several of her works and I really like her style.

Rozalyn left Timber Falls, OR shortly after her mother committed suicide when she was 17. She comes home now because her father called her and sounded like he needed her help. In addition, he hasn't been seen for two weeks. On her way into town, she follows a detour to the falls and witnesses a women jumping in. Another traveler doesn't see it and thinks Rozalyn is trying to jump. Ford restrains her and they don't have a meet nice moment. Later at her father's home she encounters Ford and recognizes his name as the scientist who discredited her father. With her father missing and Ford in the guest house, not to mention stepmother Emily, stepbrother Drew and a drunk stepsister, Rozalyn is having a rough time that only gets worse as things get really weird. Mystery from the first book does not get resolved, but Charity gets her man.

Rozalyn Sawyer returned to her home in the Cascade mountains because her father seemed to be missing. Her father had recently married again. His new wife and her children were at home, but they did not seem concerned about Rozalyn's father. Even before she arrived in town, Rozalyn met Ford Lancaster. After that he seemed to always be there when Rozalyn needed him most. Sort of a far-fetched story.

I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot and the characters. But I found some answered questions about some of the characters at the end of the book.
