I used it to learn Japanese. As a wise man once said "The trashier the manga, the easier it is to read". From a Japanese learning perspective, Kanjis are easy, common Vocabs, understandable grammars. Recommend for people who started reading Japanese and are looking for their first material to immerse themselves in the language.

Hello all! I've finally decided to start reviewing manga chapters, along with anime and light novels. And since it was this very story that inspired the ecchiness in my own book series, American Kitsune, I thought I would give the manga To Love-Ru the honor of being my first manga review.

The premise of this story is atypical of the harem genre. You've got a boy who likes a girl, a girl who sort of likes the boy, and the other girl who randomly appears in the boy's life to wreak havoc. In fact, this story is so stereotypical of an ecchi/harem manga that I would normally be turned off.

But I'm not.

To Love-Ru is the story of Rito Yuki, a young man in high school who wants to confess to the girl of his dreams, Haruna Sarenji. While Haruna Sarenji is practically a cardboard cutout of the Girl-Next-Door type, Rito is a picture perfect example of the Unlucky Everyman. He's that guy who you can't tell if he's super lucky, or ridiculously unlucky. This uncertainty I feel becomes even more true after he is introduced to his potential main squeeze, but we'll get back to that later.

In chapter 1, A Girl Who Descended, Rito Yuki is determined to confess to the girl of his dreams. He fails, spectacularly. His fact, his fail is so epic that I'm pretty sure failures everywhere were cried out. Whether those cries were of agony or joy has yet to be decided.

What makes his failure even worse is that there was no outside interference. Rito suffers from that serious case of Cannot Talk to Women, an unfortunate trope that most harem protagonists suffer from. However, his inability to speak with Sarenji seems to have been cranked up to 9,000.

Despondent from having failed for the nth time, Rito decides to sulk in his bathtub, because, you know, that's what people do when they're depressed. They sulk in a tub. Don't believe me? Just ask Rito Yuki. He'll tell you that's what everybody does.

While he is sulking, a naked girl randomly appears in his tub. Yes. A. Naked. Girl. All caps. Not only is she a naked girl, but she's a gorgeous naked girl.

Lala Satalin Deviluke is an alien from the planet Deviluke. I'm pretty sure her name, and the name of her planet, is a pun, especially since Lala has a spaded devil's tail, as do the rest of her people.

Lala is probably my favorite character out of any manga. I'll admit, while I'm not one of those otakus who have hug pillows of their "waifu" or something, Lala is definitely my anime/manga crush. She's bright, cheerful and beautiful. Her only real fault seems to be her lack of common sense and her inventions, which tend to cause accidental chaos and devastation where ever they're released.

Putting aside the characters, while this story has a stereotypical harem feel, I actually really like it. Unlike some other harem manga, which try to pretend they're something they're not, To Love-Ru is refreshingly straightforward. It doesn't pretend it's anything but a typical harem manga, doesn't try fooling you into thinking it's something else. What you see is what you get here, and that's what I like about this so much.

The ecchi has nothing to do with it. I'm serious.

Overall, I enjoyed this first chapter. It's a good introduction into a manga that isn't very original, but manages to spin unoriginal tropes into a story that still entertained me.

I just started this series via MangaFox and I have to say, I'm astounded that this hasn't been picked up for the English markets yet.

The basis of this manga is pretty much your average harem type manga. You have your hero (Rito) who is your likable everyman, your alien princess, your normal love interest, as well as a host of other girls who all have some sort of interest in said hero (whether they want to admit it or not). There's a lot of common tropes in this but it's surprisingly a likable series. You have your obnoxious characters, but they're rather easygoing so it's hard to actively dislike anyone in this series.

This is actually a pretty cute series and it's easy to see why it's so well loved in Japan. I'll admit that it's not the type of series that I personally would go out of my way to buy, but it's very obviously the type of thing that I know some of my friends would end up getting.

It's something that's absolutely worth checking out.

I really liked this series, all in all. In which a boy is forced into an alien marriage through odd circumstances. While I disagree with Rito on not loving Lala back, a perfect girl to everyone but him; his views kept the book interesting and am glad I went out of my way to find such a series and even happier to be an avid reader of its next series: To Love Ru:: Darkness.

To Love Ru was really weird!!!
There are cringeworthy parts, but it's funny in a way.
And, anything that makes me laugh gets more stars. I love a good laugh, I can't help it!!
Some of the stuff in it was just stupid, but, as I said before, its funny and a weird way.

Love Invasion

Seeing as this book is one of the "Ghost Ship" titles for Seven Seas publishing I figured I would get it out of the way and warn anyone considering this book for a younger reader to reconsider because the book is rated Older Teen seeing as it contains bare breast and almost full frontal nudity within the first 25 pages of the book as runaway princess meets average earthling for the first time as she teleports out of his bath water.

The concept of a space princess comes to Earth and falling in love is not new (Urusei Yatsura and No Need for Tenchi! are two off the top of my head) nor are harems and manga that push the boundaries of ecchiness without becoming actual hentai but this was still an enjoyable read considering. Poor Rito's personality is like a candle in the dark for Lala and a convenient way to avoid marrying the suitors her father arranged for her while his own passion for classmate Haruna is on his mind. It is a real shame he is far too shy and awkward to convey his feelings. Even worse the outgoing Lala has inadvertently put the Earth in danger as her father sends her other suitors to challenge Rito to see if he is worthy of one day being a king himself.

One of my favorite moments in the book has got to be Lala explaining even though she has got a tail she doesn't transform under the full moon which sounds like a Dragon Ball reference if I ever heard one. I do have a question though about Lala's invention called Boingy-Boing Warp-Kun. If it only teleports living matter does that mean the invention is alive too or is it the only non-living thing it can teleport and Lala didn't explain it? I decided on the second one myself. :)

I hate ecchi as a genre because of cliche, bland stories and annoying characters. This is an ecchi harem, and I am aware of that but wow I actually enjoyed something with tons of fanservice for once.
The story is pretty fun, it's actually not bad but I wouldn't say it's good either ( unless something happens in the next few volumes that makes me fall in love with it ). At least it's not trash like other ecchis, and it has a pretty decent character design & storytelling.

And this is why I think To Love Ru is memorable. I could understand why people liked this manga.
I think it does use some tropes, I don't mind it too much and I enjoyed reading this. I haven't gone past the first few volumes yet, though.

About as generic as you'd expect. What little plot that exists is cliche and bland. I'm normally not as critical of things that have been done before/many times... but this one doesn't really just didn't do much other than check off boxes.

<√> MC has feelings for girl that he can't seem to confess to
<√> Cute random girl appears naked before MC
<√> MC confesses to wrong girl on accident
<√> Random girl decides to accept the misplaced confession
<√> Dad/Brother/Guard tries to stop this union
<√> Random girl creates all sorts of havoc in MCs life
<√> Seems like original girl likes MC too and is confused about random girl
<√> Bad guy shows up to take away random girl

Aaand cut. Wait for volume 2.

Maybe the timing was bad. Maybe it just isn't all that great (obviously the choice I'm going with). It isn't awful, it just isn't anything special.

Your mileage may vary.

O serii jsem si od zacatku myslel ze jde jen o tupý fanservice plný erotického humoru, ale opak je pravdou. I pres vetsi mnozstvi odhalenych scén se jedná o krásně vtipnou a feel good zalezitost.

Je to proste hodne mila a ztrestena vec, ktera vam udela dobre pokud chcete vtipny slice of life a kupu skvele absurdniho humoru.

This is not the edition that I read but I can't find it on Goodreads and I'm not in the mood to put in a request for it to be added. So I will leave this review here as a placeholder until I can switch editions.

A well drawn kooky Manga about an alien girl escaping to earth to discover love. The first volume is chaotic and full of random surprises that keep the protagonist on his toes and usually ends up in an awkward situation.

Cute manga. A guy who is in love with a girl that he can't bring himself to speak to gets a shock when an alien girl appears in the bathtub with him! He has to help her escape her pursuers. Pretty typical as far as storyline goes, but super likeable characters.
