In her groundbreaking book, Refuse to Choose, New York Times bestselling author Barbara Sher identified a new group of individuals she named 'Scanners.' These are people with a different (and often misunderstood) type of mindset: they're curious and smart, always happiest when learning something new. But no matter how promising a path may appear, Scanners can never give up their love of exploring.
And therein lies the problem: despite their passionate engagement with the world and their love of life, Scanners are unable to decide on one path, and they're often afraid that there's something horribly wrong with them.
It's usually forgotten that such people were once admired for their wide range of knowledge, even called Renaissance thinkers. Now they're often labeled as immature, lazy dilettantes by a culture that prizes specialization above all else.
Until now.
Refuse to Choose has been changing perceptions and showing thousands of Scanners that there's nothing wrong with them at all. Now these exceptional thinkers and learners are able to create the rich, creative and successful lives and careers they're capable of.
In this book,Thinking Through Refuse to Choose, Sher distills the most essential elements of her book into 101 powerful bits of wisdom to remind Scanners every day of who they are, and how they must follow their hearts to fulfill their potential and createn the life that's right for them.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.

The book is a series of quotes. Quick to read. While a couple of quotes hit home, most I scanned over. The irony! Probably something to return to every now and then rather than read in one sitting.
A desktop calendar would probably be a more useful format for this (101 --> 365 is a lot, so maybe it's a weekly with two points on each?), as only being available in e-book means out of sight out of mind. I thought about printing it, but then it's just one more thing to own. Overall, I think skimming the full book will trigger more memories (by way of the stories) that remind me to change behavior rather than the nuggets on their own. That said, I can still see myself reading through them once a month/quarter/year as a reminder (gotta check the compass to stay on course). Price was right ($0.99)...
This book was like reading 101 gold stars instead of feeling like a failure at all I try, and there have been a lot of tries! So it seems there are quite a few of us. I'm about to purchase the refuse to choose book, as I'm hoping there will be some ideas as to how to structure my natural bee instinct. Long may I continue to collect lots of different ideas, learning, processes, and never feel like a failure, I got what I needed and moved on! And that is perfectly fine.
What should you do when you want to do everything? Everything!
Written in 2012, six years after the revelational book 'Refuse To Choose', the author Barbara Sher offers 101 advises to scanners. What is a scanner? A scanner is someone who is interested in so many things that it seems unbearable to choose only one. The book contains short and to the point advices for Scanners to help them understand, accept, and love themselves for what they are. A beautiful, important book!
Brief, thoughtful statements and inspirations that invite the reader to alter their perception of themselves and their place and value in the world. I bookmarked several... nearly a quarter of the offerings.
If you are a scanner, this collection of 101 inspirations will really hit home. Refuse to Choose was a life changing read for me many years ago. This is like the Cliff notes of that seminal book.
Well, I appear to be a scanner. Lots of short prompts to think about - I picked this up as sadly the full version isn't available as a Kindle edition as yet. I think it might be helpful, but I'm a bit wary of potential psychobabble, so three stars for the time being until I've looked into it further.
This is for scanners who consider Refuse to Choose as their bible. This is a very condensed version of that book, meant toremind scanners what makes them tick and what makes them special. This is a perfect handy guide for when you're feeling tempted to specialise and that you should refuse to choose.
Too short, it took me several minutes to read it. It is basically 101 sentence spread over 101 pages, with several sentences before and after. Yes some of those sentences are interesting. But this is not a book.
