Glasgow Museums hold one of the finest collections of samplers in the UK. This book presents a short introduction to the Glasgow Museums' collection of samplers and another essay on samplers in general - why they were made etc.; construction methods; use of different stitches, motifs etc., and other instructive uses such as for learning the alphabet. Then there is a selection of 40 of the finest/most representative of the 220 samplers that are held in the collection. The result is a beautiful intrroduction to both the world of samplers and the outstanding collection of samplers held by Glasgow Museums.
