Plus, you?ll find secrets of great entrepreneurs, a wealth of online resources, real-life success stories, and cutting-edge strategies that work.
I feel this book was intended for the new entrepreneur. It scans the basics but can feel almost insulting if you've been in business for over a year. Overall a good cliff notes version or rather can be used as a checklist of things you need to know or search for more information about any given topic. I'd hardly describe it as it's subtitle claims: "Everything You Need to Know to Succeed in Your Small Business." Ahh, if only.
For me 3.5 stars. Lots of good references, sources, and information. However, a lot of the advice to me at least, felt like just common sense tips. A good portion of the information I kind of already knew. Also there are sections that are kind of technical and very dull. Also I felt like some of the marketing strategies were out of date, and overly technical because I don't feel they would be that helpful in this day and age. Helpful aspects were the legal advice, and the terminology, and the entrepreneur test in the beginning. That was very helpful. For someone that has absolutely no idea about business, this is a very important and helpful book.
What the hell did I just read - total garbage. I have no idea who the author is but this book has all the "textbook lecturer " feel you would perhaps expect from someone obviously who has never conducted actual business or is even is an entrepreneur- rather "teaching it" at college or something yet they have no real right - just regurgitating shit!
If you have any aspirations in business and for real entrepreneurship this book is something I'd stay away from - actually puts you off and can be dangerously overwhelming to a newbie who hopes this can help - total wrong place to start
Not a " business bible " by any stretch - as a "bible" would be complete or least talk about good ever green foundational business principles yet this talks about shit that's not relevant or easily can be redundant in the fast paced world of business ( especially when referring to specific tools and software )
Even what the author covers is vague and pathetic - not taught well and quick whereas in reality whole books can be written on what he tries to cover to do it true justice - no real message in this book at all just scattered gibberish ( only the naive or newbies can fall for this crap in my opinion )
Oh my I could go in and on how stupid this is - from talk about franchising and finding ones to suit you ( what the fuck?! ) this ain't entrepreneurship - you should be teaching us to sell them not select them To talk about being first in business ..?
You mad? Plenty rules in various businesses and industries where being first doesn't matter (going opposite to what he teaches) as the next entrepreneurs innovate better and always have pushed into markets once held by Titans
I'm going to stop now - it was plain rubbish - I urge anyone reading my review to check out other far superior books I've rated 5 stars for good recommendations on business and entrepreneurship advice from real people and people who make sense!

Audio-booked this one. A wealth of small-business information--read in the most boring possible voice. You can tell that there was an update to the edition that you're listening too, because all of a sudden a new voice chimes in, that sounds approximately like the old voice, but a little bit higher in pitch. That voice contributes one sentence to a paragraph or text, then goes away.
This book gets all of its 3 stars for its information, and 0 stars for its style. It's repetitive and poorly-written. The guy uses litotes to excessive excess. These are meant to be used sparingly, for emphasis. Good writers avoid just what happened in this book--a groan and eye-roll every time the author proclaims, once again, that "this endeavor is not inexpensive!"
Anyway, I'm glad I listened to it, but it wasn't an easy thing to do.
This is for people who are starting at the absolute beginning. I don't know if the author is updating these books every year. because the business landscape has changed considerably. So the book is outdated. I enjoyed reading the part about the financials. The rest about using a computer and internet seems old. There are good and bad bits, but I think the book needs to be updated.

I immediately shut off this book after the "are you an entrepreneur" quiz in the beginning. Basically, if you are not already all the things that makes a person successful you should reconsider being in businessfor yourself. I picked up this book as someone who's been on the entrepreneurial road for many years and it takes a long time to develop the skills and characteristics described. It could be very discouraging so as the first thing he started out with, I couldn't see the advice being given as helpful.
There are currently three editions of this book if I'm correct. Hoopla only had the second editon on audio, so it was this book was outdated in some areas. Other than being outdated in some areas, this was an excellent introduction into the world of business. He covers different t business models, growth, marketing, benefits, loans, and many other things necessary to starting and running your own small business.
The Small Business Bible provides a comprehensive overview of starting and running a business, offering valuable tips on management, marketing, and finances. However, some of the guidance feels outdated, especially in areas related to modern technology and digital marketing. While it’s still a helpful resource for foundational business practices, readers may need to supplement the advice with more current information on today’s rapidly changing business landscape.
This was overall a good read, though it ended up being more of a basic overview than I had hoped. I know what Facebook is, for example, but i would have preferred meatier tips for using it for my business for example.
I don't know much about running a small business (thus the reason I come this book),so it seemedlikeagood general overview. There'snotalotofdepth on any one particular topic, but I got a sense of what is important to knows a small business owner.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ultra basic, mostly common sense, good for a person who is still only thinking about it. Not worth the time if you already own a business because you likely already figured most of it out on your own.
This was an awful pieces of garbage. He devastates forests waxing poetic about the "dream" of owning a small business. He regurgitates obvious rubbish, such as how borrowing from friends family is cheaper, but what if things go wrong... Anyone who needs a book to tell them that almost certainly shouldn't even think of opening a business. There's almost nothing in this book you probably don't already know because it's obvious. And the few things that aren't, such as the different Small Business Administration loan programs, he goes into very little depth on.
The one sort-of highlight was the different types of legal structures (s-corp, c-corp, LLP, sole proprietorship). That subject still could have used a lot more depth and a lot less "you should consult your accountant and attorney...", but it was better than the rest of the book. If you need to know that stuff though, don't buy this book. Just go to Wikipedia or something. Or ask your accountant and attorney.
This book is good for those just starting out, perhaps unsure if owning a business is right for them or what owning a business entails.
I rate it four stars because the tag line "Everything You Need to Know to Succeed in Your Small Business" is misleading. To be fair, that's an impossible task for just a few hundred pages. Nobody can live up to that promise.
I re-read parts of it every now and again. The author gives a broad overview of some business basics. It can get you started if you're overwhelmed and feeling lost. It is great for what it is, but is by no means an exhaustive "only book you'll ever need" solution- and in my opinion some advice is limited or outdated, and other critical info is glanced over or omitted when it should be given more weight.
All in all, a worthy buy for a newbie but dont stop here. Keep learning.
Giving this two stars instead of one as I found a couple new interesting nuggets on how to find a future entrepreneur venture that I had not previously considered.
Outside of those nuggets and having purchased, owned, run and closed down a franchise business within the last 10 years, I found most of the remaining content things I've already had the opportunity to experience and during some chapters couldn't wait for the 10 hours of audio to be over. If I flash back 10 years to when I started the last business, would this book have helped, Yes. I think it offers some good insights and steps on how to look for, open and operate a business for many first time individuals looking for that next opportunity.
This is not a bad book but it feels dated and conventional. It assumes you are going to get a loan, rent an office, and of course have a business plan written out. It does go over a lot of business basics so if you know nothing it's probably a decent place start. However, it doesn't seem to take into account the recent trends in microbusiness, low-cost startups, and so on.
I downloaded the audio book from my library's OverDrive and listened to about a third of it before it expired. I feel that, though there are a few gems inside all the standard material, I will learn what I personally am more interested in from books such as "$100 Startup."
This is another book that delivers on its title. It really does provide an introduction to everything you need to know to succeed in running a small business. I thought it might end up being a dull read, so I was pleasantly surprised. It's chock full of tips, suggestions, ideas, and inspiring quotes and stories. You can only absorb so much while driving and listening. So I may invest and purchase the book as a reference.
