Breaking Protocol was a different sort of read for me. I don't find a lot of military or on the run romances come my way. I usually like these sort of books, so I was a little excited to see what this book was about.

The plot was pretty standard. Piper has always had the hots for her boss, Carter, but never acted on it because it would be inappropriate. Carter, too, has had the hots for Piper. Shocking, I know.

There was an ambush in Columbia and Piper's cover was blown, Carter goes in and saves her. While alone on an island they discover their feelings only to be disrupted by a conspiracy against Piper.

The book follows their struggles to discover what is really going on behind the scene. It also covers the struggle Carter has. Does he put his job in jeopardy or does he stick with Piper? The plot here is okay. Really nothing spectacular. The most interesting part of the book was when they were alone on the island.

The writing was just okay or me. I found a few spot where the author talks down to the reader. Such as, including unnecessary comments into the book as a way to explain more than what really needs to be said to the reader.
Also, items that were never mentioned before had a way of making it into the book when you least expected them. There were instances of things being too unlikely for me taste. The characters seemed uninterested in their security. They were actually quite chill and accepting of things. This annoyed me.

Overall, the book was just okay. There was nothing specular about the book. The characters were a little too accepting of things and I didn't like Carter's mother. The writing was inconsistent and the author talked down to the reader. I will recommend this book, but with reservation. If you are expecting a quick, military type book that doesn't require much thought from the reader, then this book is for you. If you want a little more substance and depth to a book, then skip this.

MILD SPOILERS

The is the first book by this author I've read and was hoping for a great read, but I got an okay book. I didn't really like the female MC from the beginning. She did really stupid things that had me rolling my eyes. First of all she's in a safe house with her boss so the logical thing to do is sleep naked (when your life is in danger and you might need to leave in a hurry) and take off your bikini when your getting ready to go swimming because who swims in a bikini now days? Totally disregarding what your boss says about being watched when he has twenty plus years experience is also pretty stupid. Taking time to change your clothes while your alarm is going off and you have the possibility of armed men gunning for you...whatever. I guess if you don't pick apart little details and compare to other established romantic-suspense authors this wasn't that bad. Better then I could've done.

I couldn't help but think the whole time... WHY ISN'T ANYONE READING THIS?!?!? It was definitely full of suspense and lust. Though, many a time I thought our girl was slightly schyzo. (I realize I totally butchered the spelling there)


The story took a lot of turns that I didn't expect at all. Lots of action! Of all kinds! *Wink wink*


Buuuut. The ending: what the hell? It wasn't resolved! So two sets of people are still after her and everyone lives happily ever after? Riiiight.


Strong woman, sexy, broken hero, lots of bad guys, a bit of lust... If that's your thing then give it a shot!

Michelle Witvliet is a new author to me and I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book.
Michelle has done a fantastic job drawing in her readers into a story where both lead characters are strong apart as they are when they are together. What's even better is just how much action, humor and dedication are put into each sentence.
I absolutely loved watching Piper and Riggs fight their undeniable chemistry while trying to stay true to the rules the Navy laid out for them. It was great getting to see the relationship change from just comic sarcasm to tangible heat.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more in the very near future.

A good story with a mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. I enjoyed the author's writing and how she made the characters interact with each other. I didn't feel like yelling at the characters for their stupidity. The ending was a bit of a surprise, but I think it came around full circle just fine.
