I mean, I've never actually read a Dummies book before, so maybe they are all kind of empty and useless but I was expecting... something. But this was a lot of nothing.

I don't think I gained anything from this in terms of understanding common core standards or having a better idea of what I can do as a parent to support my child's education.

I think this is probably a handy book to have a copy. Breaking things down by grade level is helpful and what I was looking for when I saw this book at our library.

This book gives a good introduction to the Common Core and the tools you will need to help your child. I was appreciative of the tips and the website information. It gives a good initial breakdown of what is expected of your child. Kaplan makes a series of Common Core books designed for each grade that I am planning to read next.
My one criticism and I think that is only because Common Core is too new a program is a discussion about special education students. Of course this book is designed simply to give you an introduction to the Common Core. Designing IEP and SDC classes for the Common Core is another topic worthy of its own book.

Didn't go into enough details for me -- I'm familiar with Common Core to some extent, and this felt like a repeat with a lot of emphasis on how to be a good parent in regard to schoolwork/homework and not what is different with Common Core. But I may be too picky.
