A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT... It was said that odd and peculiar things happened on All Hallow's Eve, and Blanche Charolais was inclined to agree. Her impetuous young cousin had eloped and taken all her money and a raging storm held her trapped in a shabby little inn. Now a mysterious stranger dressed all in black had just stolen in through her window! Perhaps this dashing rogue would help with her predicament...and lead her on a magical night of romantic adventure!
WITH A HINT OF ROMANCE IN THE AIR Angus Dalglish was rather resourceful when it came to getting himself out of precarious situations – like his abrupt departure from tonight's unlucky game of cards. But when a most appealing miss seemed unperturbed by his sudden appearance through her open window, he began to wonder! This was a night filled with mischief and mayhem, and he longed to uncover the mysteries of this delightful lady's heart...
"Prudence was a wonderful ninny-hammer and Bertie was a fun character to see grow up in the space of the book. Blanche was a little too unfeeling and slightly unreasonable, esp near the end, where Angus tried so hard to convince her to stay married. It was a little awkward to read how he couldn't stop loving her.
****Spoiler Summary****

Blanche allows him to stay, then promises a reward if he helps her fetch Prudence back. With Angus gambling to fund their trip and Blanche masquerading as a boy, and through a series of trials, they finally arrive in Greta Green, just in time to stop Prudence's marriage, by accidentally getting married themselves! On the way home, Prudence whines and flirts, while Angus tries to convince Blanche to stay married. They are robbed, again, and saved by Bertie who, contrary to popular belief, never wanted to elope and is a sensible well-heeled young man and the only heir to an earldom.
