Little Pig loves food. He loves to squish it and squash it and wear it in his hair. He slurps it and slops it and gets it everywhere. Toddlers and their tolerant parents will relate to the decadent delight Little Pig takes in eating. The spirited rhyming text and impish illustrations make this book perfect for read-aloud sharing.
This is a book about a gluttonous and messy little pig who finally learns to act civilized in order to score dessert.
It took me a while to get in the swing of the text of this book, but I got there. It is fun to say "Mish went the bananas, Mash went the peas, mish-mash went everything that fell on his knees." I always say "Eat" in a pig-squeal voice, despite the fact that it hurts my throat. I suffer for my art. The cartoonish artwork is fun, including the antics of the cat and dog, peripheral to the main action. (It is always funny to me when anthropomorphic animal characters have other animals as pets.)
My toddler, who barely eats three bites of food all day, is fascinated by this book. Go figger.
My 6-year-old thought this was a funny book but as a parent I found it annoying. It tries to rhyme in some spots but not others. My child loved that Little Pig sat on his plate to eat and that he got food everywhere.
As an adult, it is important to keep in mind Little Pig is a PIG. Children laugh at it, and it has a small plot, so I would recommend it particularly for picky eaters.
London Odyssey #70 Seventy books from this geezer and we celebrate with this outing about a pig who eats and well males a mess - whoopee-doo! Anyway younger readers may enjoy the spectacle presented.
This would be a great book to use for a preschool storytime on either manners or food. Little pig's first word is "eat" and boy does he love to eat. He is also an extremely messy eater. "Slurp went the noodles. Slop went the milk. There were oodles of noodles and puddles of milk." The text has fun rhythm and rhyme as well.

The silly pig wants to do nothing but eat. This would be hilarious read aloud to a group of preschoolers or kindergartners. Pair with other messy food books for a fun filled story hour.
