Pinguine und Oper.
Ich mochte früher so gerne die Bilder von Quint Buchholz!

the english translator is Aubrey m. Woolman and s/he deserves a lot of credit for this book, only three or four rhymes are forced (unless woolman is translating to English, not american in which case the rhymes work)

bucholz' penguins and artic and even the three tenors are wonderful to look at.

Das Buch stand ewig auf meinem Bücherregal - umso erstaunter war ich, dass es sich um ein langes Gedicht handelt. Aber sehr unterhaltsam und die Bilder sind wunderschön.

This is a silly but delightful story-poem about penguins who are already all dressed up when The Three Tenors visit the South Pole on their opera ship. The book is translated from the German by Aubrey M. Woolman, and it's almost miraculously done. How you could successfully translate a story from another language, keep the original meaning, flavor, and even write it in delightful rhyming couplets is beyond me! The rhyme wobbles off meter only in a few places. It's a fun and quick read, and I will invite you, as the author Elke Heidrenrech and talented illustrator Quint Buchholz do in the P.S. ending: "You liked the book? Then buy it please, Quint and I need the royalties." Ha.

I bought my copy some years ago from an independent book seller's catalog, but it's available online at you-know-where as well.

Ein kurzes Buch mit einem langen Gedicht. Es ist toll, wie Pinguine und die Oper verbunden werden und wie viele Themen insgesamt aufgegriffen werden. Fakten zu Pinguinen, Generationenkonflikte, Klimawandel, Oper, die Rolle von Musik und vieles mehr. Fand es ein tolles Büchlein für zwischen durch und könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass auch Kinder es Lustig finden, wenn man es ihnen vorliest ^^
