Sometimes adaptations are lame - but this is not one of them. Lampert has invested a bold, modern theatricality into Kafka's brilliant and disconcerting text. She retains a sense of the original but gives the adaptation a life of its own, and the unnerving parallels to the contemporary political climate are chilling, clear but not grotesque. I'm looking forward to seeing it performed.
The futility of the characters' actions in this book was confusing. Kafka must have been one of those guys running to get somewhere in his life and never quite succeeding. I even had difficulty finding the Trial by Franz Kafka in this search - that is the book that I am referring to here.
