This book is my little bible for work. I turn to it so many times. It is all written, drawn on and highlighted. Alex Shigo is the king of knowledge about trees and explain them in such a simple but scientifically way.
Shigo's unique slide-show style made a text book that regurgitated really good information about how trees grow, strategically outmaneuvering the infectious rot that inevitably occurs after a wound is created. An idea, of a tree having dignity, inspires the basis from which I find my thoughts focusing while I work as an arborist. Overall, Modern Arboriculture, was really informative and somewhat inspiring, though not always the easiest to read.
I've had this book for years and use it for reference. This was the first time I've read it straight through. The book is an excellent tool to have and is a must for today's arborists.
