I was reading this book for a class.
It was a good sampling of documentary evidence that challenges/reinforces what we already know about the Vietnam conflict. Especially when it comes to the tactics and attitudes of our opponents.
The classic anti-communist trope doesn't really work as well once you read through this volume.
I only give it three stars as it's not really a history as such. It's a chapter by chapter thematic view of different voices from the era.. from Presidents Johnson and Nixon all the way down to the lowly grunt in the mud or NLF/VietCong soldier. So, I found some of the material easier to engage with than others. But ultimately, if you're studying the Vietnam War, this was a good book to have.

I borrowed this little treasure from our local library and I’m glad I did.
For those that may not be aware, I am a huge history nerd and this was perfect. The thing I really love about this book is how it’s actual documents, or translations of actual documents that explain all sides of the Vietnam War and not a historical book with the author’s conclusions being shared.
While it’s meant for discussion in a classroom, it’s an awesome resource if you have a paper to write or just want to expand you understanding or just enjoy a good history source. If you’re a history nerd and want an interesting read, this is it.
