About the author

Esteban Antonio Skármeta Vranicic was a Chilean writer, scriptwriter and director descending from Croatian immigrants from the Adriatic island of Brač, Dalmatia. He was awarded Chile's National Literature Prize in 2014.

هناك ثقل في الترجمه...ياكل المعاني و شعريه النص !

عن نيكاراجوا و الثوره ضد السلطه القامعه و المدعومه من امريكا ماالاتها في شعب ليون و اي شعب اخر بسيط امن في ارضه....لا يختلف الثمن الباهظ للحريه المغمس بدم الشهداء!
صحوه... تمرد ....عار تدنسه اوساخ السلطه الدنيئه و نصر يتبعه هرب لاذناب حثالات بشريه بلا ضمير..لمنافي او مزابل التاريخ!

لا يمكن وصفها برواية بل روايات متعددة عن كل شخصية من شخصياتها ليس نسق واحد تسير عليه الشخوص والأحداث وهنا تكمن العبقرية للكاتب في كيف يخطف أنفاسك ثم يعيدك مرة أخرى وكأنها الحياة فتسير ببطأ ثم تتسارع فجأه لتعود بعد ذلك وكأن شيئا لم يكن.
شخصيات الرواية تغرقك بحضورها الطاغي وبتصوير دقيق ومتباعد يمكنك أن تراها أمام عينيك .
باختصار عمل ممتع ومرآه لأدب أمريكا الجنوبيه حيث الواقعيه السحرية.

يوزع الكاتب شخصياته الروائية على طرفي المعادلة السياسية في مدينة ليون في تلك الفترة، فالبعض منهم كالعقيد والمقدم ينتمون إلى الحرس الوطني المدافع عن بقاء الرئيس، والقسم الآخر من الثوار أو المتمردين. وكما في كل حكايات الصراع الأهلي، أو الصراع بين السلطة والمتمردين، فإن أفراداً من العائلة الواحدة سينقسمون بين معارضة موالاة. وهذه حكاية الأسرة التي نتابع شخصياتها في الرواية، فيتركز هذا الانقسام في حياة الفتاة الساحرة ومن ثم المناضلة السياسية فيكي، التي ينضم أخوها أجوستين إلى الخدمة العسكرية، بينما يقاتل حبيبها ليونيل على الجبهة المقابلة من طرف الثوار المتمردين.

عمل روائي يقدم كواليس الايام الاخيرة للنظام وماقبل نجاح الثورة الساندينية في نيكاراغوا بأستعراض شخصيات محورية تمثل الطرفين ومشاعر الناس والشخوص الرئيسية المتصدرة للمشهد استمتعت بها بالرغم من صعوبة تتبع كل شخصية مذكورة يعيب الكاتب التشتت والاسترسال بدون اي داعي.

This is an exceedingly good translation (Paula Sharp). Since I am only 52 pages in I will leave at that, other than to say that Sharp respects both English syntax and the poetic vocabulary of the original Spanish. She is a fantastic writer in her own right.
The book has a lot of dialogue—a lot of stream of consciousness writing, too, rendered by run on sentences with a lot of commas. . It isn’t that this isn’t an established technique in British literature as well. You have only to look at Virginia Woolf. Sharp tries hard to remain faithful to the original (and I haven’t read the original) but I think in this strikes a necessary balance between foreign influence and acceptable English cadence. The most cogent indication to me that Skarmeta is using literary techniques rather than being used by them is the way he describes how a pragmatic girl negotiates the most survivable rape she can. It is not that she is not later, if temporarily, at least somewhat traumatized.
The book is about the Nicaraguan revolution, and the temporary overthrow of Somoza and all his US lackeys. It is really a very good novel.

Nicarágua! Quem é Nicarágua? Nicarágua é Rubem Darío... Sandino... os Somozas... os sandinistas... a EEBI... León... Manágua... É um país que conhecemos pouco. Essa ficção (detalhe importante) nos apresenta um pouco de tudo isso e com toda a capacidade cinematográfica de António Skármeta! Daria um ótimo filme!

The Insurrection is a wonderful, yet also disturbing story of a small town and its people in Nicaragua during the final days if the Sandinista insurrection against the Somoza regime. Skarmeta writes eloquently and often poetically. I regret I was unable to read the book in the original Spanish, but I sense Paula Sharp's translation is masterful and brilliant.

اللغة الشعرية رائعة جدا في الرواية، دافئة و رومانسية رغم أن الموضوع عن الثورة ضد الديكتاتورية والقمع وتضحيات الثوار من أجل وطن لا يقتل مكوناته..لكن من قال أن الثورة ترتبط بالعنف والخشونة فقط لا بالرومانسية..فالثائر ربما لن يثور لو لم يكن بداخله دفق من المشاعر الدافئة والنظرة العاطفية لغد نظيف وردي..الثائر يحلم وهذا أقصى تعبير رومانسي .
