I'm not sure what to make of this book. It seems like an expansion work on Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss, M.D., although no reference is made to his work in this book. Everything is based on Dr. Backman's own work and clients. Her ideas of the structure of reincarnation are very defined and she writes out a detailed world beyond with graduations, births, and stair step levels of experience.
Reincarnation is a belief across different cultures and religions. As such, I found this to be an interesting read, though somewhat heavy on client stories.
This intriguing book presents the results from the author's virtually unmatched experiences as a Life Between Lives (LBL) hypnotherapist. The astounding LBL hypnotherapy technique was developed by the late Dr. Michael Newton in the 1980's and 1990's, and described in his books. The LBL approach is related to the more familiar Past Lives Regression hypnotherapy, but goes even deeper, taking the patient to her "theta" level of consciousness right before deep sleep. It is under LBL trance that the truth of the soul's ultimate mission can often be revealed.
As someone who has been regressed many times in LBL sessions, I have an acute appreciation for the awesome insights that this phenomenal new approach can bring. Unfortunately, while Dr. Backman tells the story of LBL hypnotherapy well, she remains (in my mind) too focused on the individual soul itself—which she insists must heal "past karma" from previous lives—rather than developing common threads in our immortal soul lessons themselves. She encourages us to look for growth themes in our lives, and reminds us that we are loved, but it's all about the individual person and the individual soul. At times, the reader might ask whether all the technical talk about soul levels, soul buddies, soul types, ET souls, star traveler souls, soul archetypes, soul rays etc. is not merely another dog whistle for our ego, which always wants to know how "advanced" our unique, individual soul is —ignoring that there is really only ONE SOUL. At times, Dr. Backman refers tangentially to the messages of Oneness and Love that I received so many times under LBL trance—"we're all one and the same" as she quotes one of her patients saying on page 177—but this spiritual reflection remains a secondary focus of the narrative.
To me, Dr. Backman—and we—should be focused on one seminal question: What is Love? It is regrettable that so many brilliant LBL practitioners, including the late Dr. Newton himself, have contented themselves with details about the dream-lives us souls play out on Earth, while passing lightly over the greatest mystery of all.
I received this book for an honest review from the publishers through Net Galley
I’m posting this review pretty early, but the books is not part of a series or even fiction. I feel that my sharing the review is not going to be spoiling anything for potential readers of this book.
Books on reincarnation and past life exploration are probably my favorite type of non-fiction books that I read. I have not read this author’s previous title, but I will be adding it to my to-read list shortly. I enjoyed this book, it was a little different from the other books I have read that deal with reincarnation. While this one did include some case studies or individual examples of specific past life regression, much of the books seemed to focus on the hows and whys of reincarnating. Much of the books was fairly technical, but not too far above my head. Maybe it was just that she used terms I was not familiar with in regards to the topic. She is very thorough in her explanations of different aspects of our total existence as a soul and gives us good examples to help the reader understand.
This was a fascinating read I really learned a lot. As a believer in reincarnation I was perhaps more open to the ideas she was sharing, but many of the lessons in this book are valuable regardless if you believe or not. I came away with a better understanding of my own life and am in the process now of reevaluating different events and choices I have made. There is much work I need to do to let go of relationships that have ended in my current life and I hope I can move forward with a positive attitude difficult as it may be. That is part of the beauty of reincarnation. Life is not so much about right and wrong, but about learning, acceptance and love. Our life is essentially a classroom where we are meant to experience all different types of existence the good and the bad so that we can learn and evolve.
I appreciated the information this author shared about our soul’s existence outside of the body, or between lives. Many of the concepts she offered are similar to ones I have read about before. She went into greater detail than other authors I have read though. I’m still struggling to understand and apply some of the new concepts the introduced to my own soul journey. I will probably go back and re-read those parts or see if there is more information in her other book. Then again perhaps time is what is needed, time to let the ideas soak in.
Karma plays a big role in this book’s explanations of reincarnation. While I am familiar and believe in this concept the author challenged me to think of it from a new perspective.
For people interested in past life regression, reincarnation and even karma I recommend adding this title to your to-read list. It was an interesting take on the topic and like I already stated I learned a lot from this read.
If you are interested in the progression of the soul and reincarnation then this one is for you.
The Author details her work as she progresses from a psychologist to a hypnotic regression therapist, working with clients problems from a soul perspective. The Author talks about our soul, what it needs to reach higher levels of spiritual learning and what is involved in progressing through each lifetime.
There are a lot of client examples. What they struggle with, details that come through the Soul regression sessions and how they can use those details to heal and progress through this lifetime. We often don't let go of the emotions connected to lessons from a past life, bringing remnants with us into the next one.
I enjoyed this book. It coincides with teachings I've experienced in this field from various sources and shows methods of clearing the past. There are teachings from various cultures, information to read and exercises you can do.
As we learn more about soul progression, our life purpose, and why we are here, books like this one need to be on library and book shelves everywhere, accessible to all.
I received a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Very insightful and fascinating reading about the evolution of our soul. I especially enjoyed the client stories, pulling together the meaning of past life wounds with the understanding gained in the afterlife about the purpose of the challenges for our soul's growth. Recommended!
