Being able to implement SOA governance competently can make a huge difference to your organization's efficiency. This guide shows you how through a complete practical course based on Oracle's highly regarded software suite. Overview In Detail Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural style created to address the challenges posed by today’s highly distributed, fast-paced computing. This goal is achieved by constructing business-focused software systems from loosely coupled, interoperable building blocks called Services. Organizations often fail to successfully implement SOA due to a lack of effective governance. Oracle SOA Governance is a comprehensive, service-orientated architecture governance solution that is designed to make the transition to SOA easier. "Oracle SOA Governance 11g Implementation" illustrates how to successfully implement SOA governance in your organization. To achieve this, we describe how goals and objectives need to be clearly laid out and used to align governance processes with governance tools, governance tools with people, and people with the different roles and responsibilities that are required to implement effective governance. "Oracle SOA Governance 11g Implementation" begins with a short but concise overview of SOA governance. We then go to explore real world examples, based on previous experiences and working solutions, in order to learn the concepts of Oracle SOA Governance Suite. We will also learn how to implement an OER-centric SDLC process to address your organizations design-time governance requirements. Next, we will explore OSR, and discover how to use it to expose service implementations to consumers based on UDDI concepts. We will explore the features available within Web Service Manager (WSM), Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and Business Transaction Manager (BTM). Finally, we discover how OER can be extended to govern Oracle Application Integration Architecture (AIA) implementations. Discover and learn how to use Oracle SOA Governance Suite to address your specific design-time and runtime governance challenges. What you will learn from this book
I got an opportunity to read the newly releasedOracle Soa Governance 11g Implementation written by Luis Augusto Weir and share my review for this book. This the link to get the ebook Oracle SOA Governance 11g consisting of Oracle Enterprise Repository, Oracle Service Registry, SOA Management with Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Oracle Web Services Manager. Oracle SOA Governance 11g, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, enables organizations to manage their heterogeneous software project artifacts under a unified governance umbrella. Fully integrated with Oracle SOA Suite 11g, the new release of SOA Governance 11g helps organizations simplify governance of software development projects. Oracle SOA Governance 11g is fully integrated with Oracle AmberPoint, a leader in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Management. The new solution provides organizations more continuity of closed-loop governance processes across both Oracle and third party applications. Oracle SOA Governance 11g supports Oracle Applications including Oracle E-Business Suite and Siebel along with Oracle Application Integration Architecture (AIA). These integrations provide organizations with unprecedented level of automation in the delivery and management of service-based applications.
This book is a must-have for all IT managers, architects, PMs and business analysts dealing with SOA issues, be they implementation, governance, or both. I also highly recommend this book for those who are starting or facing IT governance issues in general, even if they aren't contemplating or building-out an SOA at present - the governance principles, techniques, and advice gives apply to much more than SOA.
This book will definitely meet expectation for readers looking for understanding Oracle SOA governance concepts and principles. This book is not about hardly reading big topic and hardly consuming it. But Mr. Luis successfully separated concerns in this book into small parts accordingly.
Some of key points which are covered by this book:
Chapter 1: SOA Governance overview,SOA Governance framework scope. This book sets out to discuss the tooling and concepts provided by Oracle Corporation to achieve successful SOA governance.Design-time Governance framework artifacts and creating the roadmap. Chapter 2:Implementation Case Study,It's Case study of a company that is looking to implement SOA Governance following a maturity assessment and a SOA Roadmap elaboration.Case study to understand and implement Oracle SOA Governance easily to overcome problems faced by organizations. Chapter 3:OER introduction, high-level architecture of the product, the different software components that are part of the product architecture ,and the core concepts and capabilities available in oracle Enterprise Repository. Asset visibility using Oracle Enterprise Repository Solution Packs, such as the Harvester Solution Pack and the Base Data Pack. OER Functionality and diff utility which is most important to successfully implement Oracle Enterprise Repository. Chapter 4:Describes how to configure OER for the first time(Intial configuration, creating roles, basic settings, adding users etc),asset editor and the implications. Chapter 5:Harvester and other Asset-specific features to support asset-related requirements,Those who are familiar with harvester is AIA would be bit easier for them it implies the same things.Bootstrapping Strategy using the OSB and SOA MDS Harvester tool. Chapter 6: Explained on how design-time tools can be used in conjunction with a process and people to achieve the right level of governance. How to implement policies, compliance templates, and workflows to address requirements, identified after doing a gap analysis between the out-of-the-box OER functionality and the desired target governance model. Chapter 7:Described Oracle Service Registry(OSR),implementation of the UDDI(Universal Description,Discovery and Integration) specifications, and a key component of a Service Oriented Architecture(SOA.Product architecture,OSR functionality,OSR Business Services,Using OSR with OER. Chapter 8:Describes how to expose services using OSR for runtime resolution and how integration can be achieved between OERand OSR for service promotions.Harvest deployed services using the harvester tool Shown how to configure the connections between OER,OSR and demonstrated how to publish services using the Oracle Registry Repository Exchange Utility. Chapter 9: This demonstrate how to implement basic Runtime Governance using the standard tools that are shipped with the Oracle SOA and Governance products. How to use Oracle Web Services manager to implement security policies for running services, how to monitor services and policy compliance using Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control, and also how to harvest runtime metrics into OER therefore achieving close-loop governance. Chapter 10: It exaplins additional tooling such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and Business Transaction Management.Runtime Governance can be extended with the implementation of Oracle Enterprise Manager(OEM) and Business Transaction Manager(BTM).Also how to configure OER to capture runtime metrics generated from these tools that can be used to enrich the Asset metadata available within OER.Practical implementation use cases were presented that described in detail how to configure OEM 12cto monitor a WebLogic domain containing the Oracle SOA Suite. Chapter 11:A Business case for implementing Oracle Application Integration Architecture (AIA) FP and described how Process Integration Packs (PIPs) help accelerate and de-risk the implementation of a Master Data Management (MDM).A practical use case of AIA is also presented that shows how to harvest AIA assets into the Oracle Enterprise Repository.
By reading this book can oversee successful implementation through proven best practices and methods.
How SOA Governance and Management Method helps identify appropriate best practices, merged with your existing IT processes, to provide proper governance of the capabilities introduced with SOA. The end result is a project plan to create your organization's unique governance framework.
Within the SOA governance lifecycle, the Oracle SOA Governance supports both the plan and define phases to plan your implementation of a SOA governance framework and to define the particular processes and policies needed to enable SOA governance. SOA Governance Maturity Model can help identify what customers need to be successful with SOA and SOA Governance. Establish decision rights for the development, deployment, operations and management of new services Monitor and report decisions and results for communicating governance results. How SOA Governance provides the Business/IT alignment needed to achieve the SOA promise-of-value for service reuse and improved business agility.
As the Oracle Fusion Middleware Practice Lead for Mythics, Inc. (Oracles largest NA partner), I read a lot of material related to SOA and specifically the Oracle SOA products and I must say that Oracle Soa Governance 11g Implementation by Luis Augusto Weir is by far one of the best books I've read on SOA, much less SOA Governance. The authors do an excellent job of laying the foundation for understanding the people and process aspects of SOA Governance and then how to effectively support those people and process components using the Oracle SOA Governance technology suite (Oracle Enterprise Repository and Service Registry). The book covers the theoretical then enforces the points by walking through very realistic use cases following a fictitious company through the analysis and implementation process. The book provides very practical guidance for implementing design time and runtime governance and detailed technical instructions for setting up and configuring the Oracle tools. This book is a must read for any organization implementing SOA governance or considering it - no matter what maturity level. More info here: http://bit.ly/1fCqmSS - Shawn Ruff
