disappointing

I have been a fan of this series and this author for a long time. In this book a lot has changed. Emma is more self-centered, rails at local police, holds herself far above others, is a solo operator, preaches on trafficking… just not likeable (or even interesting). There is no minor character development or growth. Sadly, this is my last read in this series.

Read 2024 - I give this 3.5/ 5.

It’s about two serial killers working together to kill women who they’ve met online to teach those women and any other woman who hears about the killings, that it’s dangerous to meet someone from online.

Agent Emma Griffin of the FBI is called onto the case because the killings span across a few different states. After these women are found wrapped up in a blanket on the side of the road near truck stops/ gas stations, Emma comes to the conclusion that these women are either apart of a matchmaking service and/or have online dating profiles. This brings Emma to one of the killers, the founder of the matchmaking service, Elio. I did not see Elio being of the murderers but after he was catfished by a woman he met online, it makes sense that he is one of them.

The other killer is a man named Lucas. Emma comes across his name because his pictures are being used as the profile picture for the online dating profiles. Turns out, Lucas and Elio were working together because they seemed to share their hatred for online dating. Their reasoning was to teach women to be more cautious when it comes to online dating. It’s a twisted reason to torture and kill so many women.

This book wasn’t bad but just wasn’t one of the more thrilling and attention holding out of the series.

I just can't get behind this premise

If you don't need everything in a thriller to make sense, this Emma tale will deliver a fast paced, twisty tale that you'll enjoy.

But for me, I couldn't understand the motives behind the murders. I don't like being lectured to about the internet not being the "real world." The complications were too layered for crimes that Emma insisted weren't meticulously planned.

Most of all, though, we constantly hear about how Emma is great at reading people and noticing tiny details, yet no clues were given about why she might be suspicious of those she was investigating. It felt a little cheap to pull the solution out of nothing that way.

Again, though, if you're able to suspend reality, it's a good way to pass a few hours, and enough books in this series end up being four stars to make it worth getting through the duds.

The Girl on the Road (Emma Griffin FBI Mystery Book 23)

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I loved this book and I am happy that Emma came out of her coma. I like the fact that writer has Emma still trying to separate her "dream time" with the real world. Xavier told her about his sister as well as letting her know that 4 other cases she was working on were solved because of her. Now she has to learn to understand that she never was at the "hotel" and that she never met Xavier's sister, but I believe that she will eventually find this mysterious place and help Xavier understand what really happened to his sister. I am glad she managed to figure out what was happening and who was killing these young women, but you will be left guessing until the very end. I can't wait to read the next book.

I enjoy the Emma Griffin FBI Series, this one started off slow. In fact, I considered just DNFing it, but I stuck with it. Another thing, besides the very slow start, was that a couple of chapters went back to do a history of sorts on this series. I didn't care for that, as I think you could read any of these books as stand-alones. I don't know why she put those chapters in there, other than needing a certain word count or something. The premise of the book is a good one, and important. I liked that the gang was back together, that Emma is out of a coma, and Rivers left a cliff hanger. I just hope the next book is better.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

Interesting take on dating apps

The storyline was interesting, but again, I was thrown off by Emma Griffin FBI agent extradinare and Emma Griffin stupid rookie. I'm really bored by her going down dark stairs and behind buildings alone. She calls for backup but doesn't wait for backup. At least she is getting punched and kicked for that, but geez, when will she learn? And doesn't she have cameras on her porch since many anonymous threatening letters, boxes, and cards are left there? Isn't a group trying to kill her? This is very annoying to read. And, of course, the object left by her door is always opened without being scanned or fingerprinted. Really?

Another excellent book in “The Girl” series! This book involves investigating murders of girls who all used some kind of on-line dating service. So many of those exist today and anyone who is thinking of using one should definitely read this book! And this book, as usual, leaves us with a warning that someone is out to get Emma. I marvel at how AJ comes up with these exciting plots and I love how Sam and Emma’s friends usually have a small part in each book! I feel like I know them so well at this point.

Ok plot

I'm sorry to say, the story started at a very slow pace. First chapters 12-14?? Were used to update new readers, what happened in previous books in the series. I love Emma and read all the books including Ava,s and Dean' s series. I believe Emma' s interesting character can stand alone without going back so deeply. Or maybe author needed to create 40 chapters instead of the thirty usual ones. Let's hope next book will be again the great read we are used to. The plot is really good and worthy the read just brace yourself for a slow start......

finally

This newest book in the series made me so happy. The main character finally didn’t stupidly put herself in danger for no good reason other than thinking she knew more than every other professional and that she was the only one who could make the case, the arrest, solve everything. I hope this continues into the rest of the series going forward. This author does a good job in making the twist but this one is especially masterful.

NOT THE BEST.

I think with this story, you were distracted, bored or something because it is NOT one of your best writings. It didn't flow and was a little pedantic to the point I had trouble following the original story line.
Fear not, I KNOW you are better than this offering! As usual, the next story is qued up.
P.S. You still need to get on your proof/editing staff: the grammatical errors were worse than usual. Still love you, though!!

great read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My one criticism would be that Emma seems to be spending a lot of time putting people in their place, like the burned-out detective or the trucker who wasn’t concerned with the dead body. I get why she does this, but given the resolve and composure of the character, this kind of behavior seems beneath her.

I have enjoyed every aspect of this book. No idea who the actual bad guys were, but so gripped by the story I had a hard time putting it down when life interrupted....but immediately picked it back up to immerse myself in the story when free! More please!!!!!

So good!

Emma Griffin is back in action and better than ever! If you've followed the whole series as I have, you'll love this episode. If this is your first Emma Griffin book, I encourage you to go back to The Girl in Cabin 13 and read the whole back story. It's worth your time.

Another Great Read

Rivers nailed it again. Emma gets involved in matchmaking and online dating when women start showing up at rest stops, wrapped in blankets and horribly attacked. The culprit is cagey and very dangerous and it takes time to identify them but Emma wins again!

Emma is my hero!

Whoa! This was chilling, scary, and could be very real. As always, I am spellbound by Emma as she solves her case with her core group. The only problem with Emma’s stories is they are page-turners and I get finished too quickly, then have to wait for more!

Emma Griffin

I really liked this 23rd book of series, just as well as I liked the other 22. Now I can't wait for the 24th book in the series. You definitely can't leave the end hanging like that. I'll be waiting, as I'm sure many others will be to! Keep up the good work.

The Girl on the Side of the Road

This may be A J Rivers’ best yet. A page-turner from the very beginning, you’ll never guess the ending. Don’t miss this chapter in the Emma Griffin saga.

Love EMMA!

Great Read as normal. Although I am a little confused on Emma's "Out of Reality Dream". If I'm not mistaken Emma & Sam did move into Sam's childhood home and gave theirs to Dean & Xavier. So I'm thrown thru a loop on that confusion.

Emma Griffin Series

Have read all 24 books and was hooked from the first one and couldn't wait to start the next one. Favorite character overall was Xavier.

Only complaint was you didn't provide the recipe for her cinnamon rolls.

good ending

So it sounds like the car that hit Elio, was really after Emma. Not one of her team mates.?.? Yeah that wasn’t mentioned after. So who is really wanting to kill Emma? Maybe book 24 will answer that question???????
