Samantha Erikson is a vampire with one mission: to rule the world. She’s spent decades winning over the world’s most feared vampire, Vince Moretti. Just when everything is going according to plan, he sidetracks her with the assignment of pretending to be a high school student in a small town.
It’s humiliating enough going from stilettos to sneakers, but Samantha must also follow the most boring person alive: the teenage girl who stands between her and the throne. When she has had all she can take, she finds a fun distraction: an attractive football player who isn't scared of vampires, but there's one problem. Against her better judgment, she falls in love with him. Now she must decide between the mortal she adores and a place of power in the vampire world. If she tries to have both, she could lose everything.
This is the prequel to the Transformed series - it can be read independently from the series.
Stacy Claflin writes about complex women overcoming incredible odds. Whether it's her Gone trilogy of psychological thrillers, her ongoing Transformed paranormal saga, or her Seaside Hunters sweet romance series, Stacy's three-dimensional heroines shine through.
Decades after she wrote her first stories on construction paper and years after typing on an inherited green screen computer that weighed half a ton, Stacy realized her dream of becoming a full-time author.
When she's not busy writing or educating her kids from home, Stacy enjoys watching TV shows like Supernatural, Pretty Little Liars, and Once Upon a Time.

I've had Deception on my TBR list for a while, and when the opportunity to read this prequel came up, I couldn't resist.
This novella expertly sets up a back-drop for some of the characters in The Transformed Series. Following the side assignment Samantha has, this quick read shows her experience with meeting Alexis. Highlighting some key moments and details for the coming trilogy, Stacy Claflin does a fantastic job of creating not only a side story to answer questions in the main trilogy, but catches readers with a tasty little treat.
Well written, this book flows quickly and easily. Not hanging on every thought and feeling of the characters, it moves along at a nice pace. This was already a series I was looking forward to reading, but is now a delicious story I can't wait to devour. I'd recommend this novella to any fan of the series, or anyone planning on reading it.
*I was given a complimentary ecopy of this book, from the author, to read in exchange for an honest review.
Fallen by Stacy Claflin packs a lot of good reading into one little novella! An ambitious vampire, Samantha, must return to high school to find a young girl who holds the potential to take everything Sam has worked for away, just by coming of age and becoming the vampire she is. What Samantha wasn’t expecting was Tanner, a human high school boy. The attraction to this young man is immediate; there is just something about him and Sam lingers as long as possible, stalling in fulfilling her mission. Could it be that Sam has finally found love? How can she do what she came to do and just leave? I was absolutely thrilled with the depth and development Stacy Claflin has crammed into this prequel to her The Transformed series. The pace was fast, the reading easy, the plot holds the promise of a great series! When something is this good, there's always room for one more vampire tale!
Series: The Transformed, Prequel Publication Date: September 3, 2013 Publisher: Stacy Claflin Page Count: 74 (per Amazon) Genre: YA/NA Paranormal Romance Available to Purchase From: Amazon / Barnes & Noble
I'm not the right age for this novel, but I picked it up free, and when I realized I'm not really part of the intended audience, I tried to read it like a teenager would. I have a little bit of nagging need to know what happens to some of the characters later on hanging around my brain, so that's a good sign that the story kept my interest.
My overall rating for this would be 3.5 stars (which is higher than I would rate any of the Twilight books but lower than I would rate Interview with the Vampire) for adult readers who like a vampire tale, and I would bump that up to a 4 star for fans of the Teen Vampire genre. The story moves along, and the characters are well-developed given the brief amount of time this short prequel has to bring them to life. If I were 15 or 16, I would definitely be reading the next one.
I am a Grammar Cop, and I tend to get my panties in a bundle over missing commas between independent clauses. You probably don't, but if you do, your panties will be bundling while you read Fallen. Other than that and a few missing words, the story passes the grammar and punctuation check. The prose is spare and fast-paced, which is exactly right for the type of story presented.
I'd recommend it to Young Adult and New Adult readers looking for a short, fast-paced vampire story that sticks with the traditional vampire lore and has no sparkles at all.
So I found this novella for cheap on Amazon and decided to buy it. I'd finally started this series and this was touted as the prequel. Well, I read it and returned it. I was quite willing to procrastinate with this series but a book that I was waiting for, was released the next day which broke my focus. So this is where I ended with this series.
P.S. I'd already read the first three books in this series as well as the novella that comes right after that. This review is meant to continue from the reviews that I made for the previous books.
A special magical girl Alexis, was supposed to be killed as a baby but it didn't happen. A powerful vampire was sent to see if she had her powers and was going to be friends with her. The vampire planned on sending a boy to be friends with her but no one really wanted to be close friends with Alexis. The vampire then made friends with a guy herself and things was not like they're supposed to be. The story really gets going now. The next book is coming and have to get it, now!
It was Sam's version of sum of what happened. It was interesting that she found such a unique connection 2 tanner and he wanted her 2 turn him. She saved him from her Co workers in spite of her orders.
I savored the warm, sweet blood that filled my mouth. I'd forgotten how much better fear-laced blood tasted.
Fallen was a quick and easy read. I haven't read any of the books in The Transformed series and with there already being three books after this one, I think Fallen gives a nice bit of background into the very beginning of the story. Because it's a prequel there is really no need to have any previous knowledge of the characters or the story.
Fallen is told from Samantha's point of view. Samantha is a vampire. A vampire who wants to rule the world along with her long time vampire partner Vince Moretti. Sent on a mission by Vince, she is to attend school and check up on student Alexis. Samantha has no interest in humans other than them being a source of food. She loves nothing more than to feel the fear in them before she feasts on their blood. She is a vampire through and through. What she doesn't count on is meeting Tanner and falling in love. How will Vince handle this news and will Samantha be able to rule world whilst being in love with a human?
I really enjoyed Fallen. Samantha was a character that took a little while to like. She has such disregard for humans. But as her feelings for Tanner developed there was a real change in her. I loved how protective she was of Tanner. Tanner was a character that doesn't have an easy existence. He is bullied at school, so he doesn't have many friends. The relationship between him and Samantha developed nicely and I enjoyed the time that they spent together.
The ending has really left me eager to continue on with the story and find out what happens next for these characters.
Fallen was a quick, easy read that was a nice addition to Stacy Claflin's series. Having read and reviewed the first two books and enjoying them greatly, I was interested to see what the author did with the prequel, especially because it is written from Samantha's point of view. It definitely had a different feel from the other books in the series and I really enjoyed reading about Samantha.
My favourite thing about this novella was definitely Samantha's personality. She had this no nonsense demeanor about her and although she was taking orders from Vince, it felt like she was her own person. She also had a great wit and there were some sections where I could feel myself smiling at her attitude. As well as that I liked how the author set the book before Deception, it gave extra information that was nice to read about.
The novella moved at a quick pace but Stacy crammed a lot into the small amount of pages. It keeps you hooked and gives just the right amount of detail to make it an interesting and engaging novella. I think it helped that I had prior knowledge to the series as there wasn't much background information but that is to be expected. I'd recommend reading at least the first book before the prequel but it's not necessary to follow the story, which takes place before the first book.
Overall Fallen was an entertaining read that was a great addition to the series. I would definitely recommend taking a look at Stacy's work if you like vampires. Also Fallen is free so go get a copy!
Definitely for a younger teen reader. It's very Vampire Diaries and Twilight-esque. Not going to "offically" rate it because I don't want to bring down the average for the author, just because it wasn't the right fit for me. However, the main character is quite unlikeable right from the beginning.
Fallen is a free prequel in The Transformed series that I grabbed on Story Cartel because ... well it was a vampire short with a pretty cover. So sue me.
When I started reading more about it and the series, though, I was honestly concerned that I was going to hate it with a passion. I mean, there's no possibility for a happy ending. Surely this will all end in tears. Why do I do this to myself?
Well, quite simply, because sometimes the stories that end in tears can be wonderful and moving and ... well hell, sometimes you just need to cry so why not read a sad story so you have something to blame it on?
What I liked:
I really enjoyed Samantha. I thought I wouldn't, but I couldn't seem to help it. She's just ... real ... Well, as real as a vampire can get, anyways. And over the course of 75 pages you watch her grow and develop because of her feelings for this human boy.
What I didn't love:
The fact that I now HAVE to read this series, because I must know what becomes of Samantha and her human love. My to-read list was already precariously stacked, thanks a lot.
Who I'd recommend it to:
Well, obviously, anyone who's interested in reading "The Transformed" series. Beyond that, anyone who's interested in a sad but sweet vampire short.
This book also ends in a cliffhanger with an ending that is actually quite sad. This is definitely a YA PNR book. There is no sexual content beyond kissing and no explicit language. I was getting more used to the book (and liking it more) near the end, but then it got sad, and then it was over. This book features Samantha (vampire) and Tanner (high school student), with Vince (vampire) ever present in the background and dictating what Sam is to do next. All in all, I was never able to really get into it. Thus far, I am not too impressed by this anthology as a whole. I am not that motivated to continue this series, but I wouldn't completely reject the idea either. I give this book 3 stars.
his is a vampire story that put a smile on my face. It’s actually making fun of the Twilight series, in a nice way. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I am not well versed in vampire lore. I enjoyed reading about Samantha and thought it was fitting that she ended up falling in love with the human boy, Tanner. I did not like Samantha in the beginning; she was not a very likeable character being so ambitious and having no shame in using the people around her. Although she is not human she still has a human side in her unbeating vampire heart. I am not sure that she is ready to give up her claim on the vampire throne and run off to live happily ever after with a human, but I hope that she will find a way to be with Tanner. I am a romantic and can’t bear to see people deeply in love go their separate ways. Since Fallen is only a prequel, I am hoping that things will work out for Samantha and Tanner, and that this isn’t really the end.
I received this book as a part of the Transformed Starter Library. This is the prequel to Deception the first book in the Transformed series which I had previously read before receiving this so I read them out of order which I kind of liked doing because it gave me a different perspective on the characters. Instead of seeing a character evolve from start to finish I got to see the opposite which was really interesting to see. In Fallen you see how the evil characters from Deception come up with a plan to kill Alexis Ferguson that will benefit them. I really enjoyed this book and since I had already read Deception I didn’t particularly care for Samantha but by reading this book it brought her character into a whole new light. You see how she is drawn to Tanner and how much she cares. You see her struggle with what to do with her feelings. Even though I already know the ending I really enjoyed this prequel.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. This is a fast paced short story. It took only a few hours to read and well worth it. Samantha is a vampire trying to rule the vampire world with Vince, the scariest vampire around. When they find out that a born vampire is still alive 12 years after she ordered to be killed, Vince sends Samantha to track her down and watch her. Samantha finds that Alexis is a bookworm and plain boring. She has to get a boy to fall for her and lead her out of town so Vince can kill her. But what Samantha doesn't figure into the problem is Tanner, someone Samantha can fall for even though he is human. What will Samantha do? Can she lead Tanner on and turn him towards Alexis? What will happen when Alexis goes through the transformation? This is a first for me by Stacy Claflin and I enjoyed it and can't wait to read more from her.
This is a prequel to a series that I haven't read but based on this novella, it is now on my t-b-r list. It has left me with enough questions that need answering and the only way I'll get answers is to read the books. Still not 100% sure why 'Alexis' needs to be got rid off or why she is so fully ignored by everyone. Samantha is a vampire who prefers fear-laced blood as it tastes sweeter. Until she meets, and gets to know, Tanner. Then she finds that love-laced blood tastes just as good.
This is a prequel and a novella so please bear that in mind - it is not a complete story but enough to give you some background and to irk your interest. As a taster for a new series and with a background story that I'm sure will make more sense once the series is read, then I can definitely recommend this. It's certainly left me wanting more so in my book that's mission accomplished.
This was a free prequel to The Transformed series. It sets the scene for how the vampire world interacts with the human one, and has an interesting detail for how some vampires are born vampires and others are made through a vampire bite.
However it isn't a stand alone book. The reader is expected to then read the series in order to see how things pan out. I found it frustrating as a result. You are not told how things finish with Tanner and Samantha. You are not told if Alexis is the real unturned vampire or if it could be her sister Natalie, and the necklace is just in her box. In fact the whole thing reads just like the starting chapters to a book rather than a book in itself.
I could only give it 2 stars because if this. The writing deserves better than that, but without it being attached to the 1st book of the series, it isn't complete enough to warrant more.
Fallen & Taken Prequel to The Transformed Series Author: Stacy Claflin
Samantha Erikson is a vampire with one mission: to rule the world until she is assigned to capture "someone" and blend into high school. I've really been against Sam in Deception but having read Fallen and Taken I've developed a soft spot for the love struck vampire. I love the background history that came with reading the prequels by Stacy Claflin.
I'm definitely loving this Young Adult Paranormal Romance. It is sweet and full of suspense. I'm eager to read the next installments in this fascinating series. Even bad vampires can change for love. ♡♡♡♡
Quick enjoyable YA/Teen read. Book one of the short series. Vampires living within the Human world undetected is a familiar concept with refreshing qualities like walking through walls. Slow at times in the beginning, but quickly took off and kept interest going as the plot unfolded. Nice writing style with witty characters in ever evolving situations. I can hardly wait to read what happens next.
interesting prequel. it might be a series I continue. I found the reasoning for chasing Alexis interesting, the story about the necklace and the ring fascinating and I'd love to know more. and I didn't get annoyed with Tanner or Samantha.
But I did find some elements frustrating and not believable so I'd need to know more info before I continued with the series.
I loved this story. I wish Samantha didn't have to leave to go with Vincent. I would read this story a trillion times over deception. I read deception and I seriously thought the girl was selfish. Samantha on the other hand, is a villain with new found emotions for a guy who seems to love her. I hate that he changes hearts in deception.

Oh my dear lord what a peace of boring book was this!!! I kept reading it with the hope that it will get better...it was better while I reading the first chapter. The result??Me dying out of boredom and me discovering why hope dies last. Keep away.
