Jocelyn Pearson is determined to spend her last month as a twenty-something doing everything she's too busy or scared to try. Her imagination runs wild and then fixates on Ian Baird. He'll be working at the Langston Museum for a short stint as a consulting curator. He's Scottish. He believes sex is fun to be had. He's the perfect choice for a fling. She only has to get him break his rule about sleeping with co-workers. Seducing a man was on her bucket list...

Ian is no one's fool and knows exactly what Jocelyn wants—him. If she didn't work for the Langston Museum, he'd be more than happy to oblige any and every fantasy she desired, but she's the curator. She's sweet, inexperienced and well liked by everyone including the museum owner and director. Ian can't risk losing such an important contact for his consulting business. Not even when everything within in him craves a taste of her.

When Jocelyn sets her sights on him, there's no way Ian can deny her. They agree their affair will end in thirty days. No emotions, no entanglements, just sex. The closer the end date looms, they start to question if it's possible to walk away. They'll either have to come to terms of what they've become or stick to their original agreement.

Melissa Blue's writing career started on a typewriter one month after her son was born. This would have been an idyllic situation for a writer if it had been 1985, not 2004. Eventually she upgraded to a computer. She's still typing away on the same computer, making imaginary people fall in love.

I dug this one!

Contemporary Romance isn't usually a go-to for me, but when I do read them, I tend to prefer it short(ish) and HAWT. This novella-length (freebie as of when I picked it up) was a quick and sexy character-centric romp between the sheets. ☺

But it was more than just the sex; both our MC's grew and learned quite a bit about themselves as the story progressed. I enjoyed being in their heads and I was rooting for them to find their happy together.

Ms. Blue's writing style really worked for me, and I loved how our heroine, Jocelyn, knew exactly what she wanted and how to ask for it. Even if she was a newbie at many of her and Ian's activities. ;) Toward the end the tone veered a little bit in the direction of angst-land, but things were resolved before all the internal conflict became too much for me. (Exactly why I like shorter books when it comes to this specific subgenre!) :D

I'll def be perusing the rest of this author's catalog.

"You may know meaningless, but I know what more is like."

So my goal for 2018 is to read more "new to me" authors. I've had this book sitting on my kindle for what feels like forever....and I'm kicking myself for not having read Melissa Blue sooner!

Before I go on with my review, let me just say that this book is a freebie....yep, you read that right...IT'S FREE!! I'm just gonna drop this link right here....

https://www.amazon.com/Under-His-Kilt...

Okay, moving on. Within minutes of starting this book, I immediately fell in love with the author's writing. There's this ease to it. The characters felt relatable, the dialogue was funny and honest...and the sex...well, wow....it was erotic and sensual and just basically

Image result for the office hot gif

Joceyln was not shy about the type of all consuming, "break some furniture" sex that she wanted to experience. And Ian...well, he doesn't know how to do relationships...but sex, oh sex he's excellent at.

And that brings me to another thing....I LOVE HOW SEX POSITIVE THIS BOOK IS!! Jocelyn and Ian were combustible together. She wasn't shy about voicing her fantasies. Yeah, she had some hesitancy and insecurity at first...but those were all part of her internal monologue. She'd quickly push the thoughts aside and it would be all about her getting hers.

And Ian....holy sexy Scot....he knew what he was doing and he did it. He turned Jocelyn out. Have a fan on standby.

She couldn't have imagined the deep, abiding pleasure of telling this man suck me, fuck me and him obeying because the words had been spoken.

But, naturally, those pesky feels start to creep in...and that's always my favorite part of the "just sex" trope. When it starts to turn into more.

Both Jocelyn and Ian were afraid of showing anything more to the other. The deal had an expiration date. Not one they set, but Ian's contract with the museum was up at a certain time, and he already had another job lined up in another city. Could either risk putting their heart on the line and voice what they felt?

Only a sick fuck would wish that she'd miss him, that she'd feel the loss of him, because in that moment he knew he'd miss her, feel the loss of her.

I did have a couple of small issues that kept me from rating this higher. First, when the book begins, it feels like you're dropped into a story already in progress. I wish the introduction into Ian and Jocelyn's working relationship was a little bit smoother.

Also, as is sometimes the case with novellas...there were parts that were rushed. The transition from this being strictly sex to Ian spending the night with Jocelyn was a little bumpy. I wanted to see more of that. Instead we're given the simple few sentences with a few days time jump stating that he was basically spending all his time at her place.

I wanted to see more of that. I wanted to feel more connected to their growing feelings. I wanted to see them waking up in each other's arms, the domesticity of them getting ready together in the morning, and the evolution of how little by little his stuff migrated from his apartment to hers. We get a little bit, but...I'm greedy and wanted MORE.

Overall, this was a story that I really enjoyed and an author that I definitely plan on reading more of. I've already gone and scooped up the rest of this series (because hello...the next book is fake relationship and that's so my jam) and I've gotten her Dirty Sexy Geeks series because well, I really like all three of those words used together...but also, it comes highly recommended by so many of my friends.

If you, like me, haven't read this author yet....you're seriously missing out!!

3.something have I ever mentioned I have a thing for the Scots Stars

The description blurb does a great job of telling you exactly what to expect from this story so if it sounds good to you then you'll like it, if you want to groan and roll your eyes... then you probably won't. This is a quick sexy read and although the story is basically designed to lend itself to all smut all the time, there was more to this one so I went ahead and got the next two in the series. The story combines things I love and things I hate, but my weakness for a book that allows me to picture the love interest as a Scottish Adonis is going to have to really f*ck up to get anything less than 3 stars from me.

*Important note: There are no ACTUAL kilts in this story at any time so don't let the title of the book or my shelving system throw you off. The written Scottish accent that drives some batty is used lightly in this one so if you have a "bad brogue allergy" you might be okay with Under His Kilt.

description

The only reason this freaking thing is getting a damn 3 star is because there was jack shit about him being Scottish other than his fucking accent.

At least this shit could have taken place in Scotland or some shit. I'm downright disappointed because I was looking forward to SOME FUCKING SCOTTISH SMUT WITH SOME FUCKING KILTS.

End Rant.

I wanted to like this book, but it just bored me - even the smut factor wasn't very entertaining. I might have stuck it out, but 1/3 of the way in Ian tells Jocelyn about his dog that he loved. Sounds sweet, right? Nope. After reading about how much the dog loved him, Ian tells Jocelyn that he dumped the dog at a pound so he could travel. I have a thousand words for that kind of "hero" and none of them are nice. Needless to say, I have no interest in seeing Ian get a happily ever after so I tapped out.

Five stars on both reads. Very hot, very sexy multicultural romance. Two consenting adults engaging in a temporary affair that turned into a long term commitment. Current and reflective of the world we live in now. Another big plus, there's a puppy. 🐶

This is a well developed novella. Ms. Blue did a wonderful job on making the characters lovable and real. Jocelyn, the musuem director was turning 30 and created a bucket list. She's lived a very tame life and was frankly, she was sick of it. Jocelyn has fantasized about the museum's temporary, Scottish curator named Ian. Ian doesn't mix business or pleasure, but Jocelyn convinces him otherwise because she WANTS to play by his rules. No attatchments, just sex. Ian and Joce embark on the 30 day quest to fufill all of her fantasies. Anything she wants, just the way she wants it. :)

Jocelyn was a lovable heroine that is hard to come by these days. She just wanted to live her life and check off some things on her life list. She was turning 30 and didn't do all of the things that she felt she missed out on while she was first in school, then afterwards developing her career. She wanted to let Ian go at the end and be the kind of woman antethema to her natural personality. During her 30 day quest, she realized some things about herself. She realized that she couldn't separate feelings and sex (especially if it was as good as it was with Ian), but she liked the vixen that Ian helped her to become. Made for a very good heroine in my opinion.

Ian was a hot. He was Scottish, (which Ms. Blue accentuated at the appropriate times), had a rough exterior, but pained on the inside. Not enough to make him a domineering jerk, but in a way that made him not as secure as he portrays himself to be on the outside. Ian figures that women see him as a conquest which he was happy to indulge, but secretly as time went on, he hoped Jocelyn would see something different and decide to keep him. That right there, made him a keeper in my book. He didn't try to force her hand, since they both made the rules clear in the beginning, but the feelings were there on both sides as time went on.

There was growth with these characters during the course of the novella. A lack of communication on both sides brought on the rocky times with this couple, but in the end, I got my HEA. :)

Since UNDER HIS KILT is such a short read it is difficult to do a review without spoilers or simply rehashing the blurb. So this review will be short and to the point as well. UNDER HIS KILT is a well written, quick, and sexy read that hits all of the points needed to get a pretty much complete story in about one hundred pages. Jocelyn and Ian have definite chemistry and sexual tension between them that builds and intensifies quickly as they work together. The urge to give in and take advantage of said attraction is too much to bear and the hotness ensues. This is a quick and fun read and I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the UNDER THE KILT series!

This was the oldest book on my maybe list and today was the day to give it a try. I felt like I was missing something as I started reading, like there was a book or spin off I should have read first, leaving me wondering just what was going on. I liked the chemistry between Jocelyn and Ian, but things went so very fast from them flirting to having sex without anything in between. Again it seemed like there was something missing, more backstory, something that would make me feel like the warp speed was a good thing. Instead I found I didn't care enough to keep reading, in the end this one just wasn't for me.

2019 Ripped Bodice Summer Bingo: Kilts

This was sexy and quick, but I never got the sense of why the protagonists knew each other or what their relationship was outside the bedroom. I liked the sexual fantasies. I was disappointed that there weren't any kilts in the book (I know, it’s silly, but I did have the expectation that the hero would wear a kilt). Still, it’s well written and I’m willing to read the author again.

Ian and Jocelyn

Who knew museum curators could be so steamy?

Jocelyn is turning 30 soon and the hot Scot consultant she's working with at the museum just might be bucket list material.

Ian does not do work relationships. Too complicated. But he may have to make an exception with Jocelyn because she's an itch he definitely needs to scratch.

This book was well written and steamy as all get out. Two folks embarking on a no strings attached end date certain affair won't let their hearts become engaged. They won't do that. Or will they? Of course they will.

DNF. I made it halfway and it's just too boring. There's literally 0 chemistry and they're just constantly having sex. And then thinking about not wanting more even when it's obvious they do want more. I can't read about characters I'm not invested in, in a good or bad way.

We all find one birthday that just kind of hits us smack in the face. Jocelyn’s “aha” moment came when she realized she was turning thirty and is determined to get a little wild and crazy before-hand. As a brilliant assistant at a well-known museum, finding excitement can be a little tough. Enter Scottish Ian Baird, a consulting museum curator. Number one on her bucket list was seducing a man and well, Ian was definitely a man, let the games begin!

Let’s just say that Jocelyn may be out of her league, sexually, but can the sweet Jocelyn seduce this handsome and charming man or will he prove too much to handle? Under His Kilt by Melissa Blue is smoking hot, full of witty dialogue and the charm of two people skating around the emotional and physical avalanche of love, lust and ancient artifacts. Ms. Blue has created two likable characters that make bucket lists sound like sizzling fun!

I kinda have a soft spot for agreements between two consenting adults to just go for it and be all wild with the steamy sex. I mean, you know things are going to end up MORE between them (because I read romance books and I MUST HAVE MORE, DAMMIT!) and I love the build up to when they realize "Oh, hey. I don't just want to get down to the boning. I actually LIKE you."

So. This book hit the spot. Literally in Jocelyn's case since Ian knows his ways around a lady's hot buttons. She tosses aside her inhibitions, he puts aside his concerns about getting busy with a coworker. And the sex was PHENOMENAL. As it often is with those hunky Scottish men.

Highly enjoyable with plenty of sexy times between engaging characters. Taking a peek at the later books in the series, it looks like those Bairds get around. In a good way. A very good way. *slow nod of approval*

Enjoyable story of a somewhat sheltered girl lusting after the Scottish consultant brought in temporarily to curate an exhibit. When their chemistry becomes undeniable, they agree to a no-strings-attached relationship while he's there. They both know Ian will walk away at the end of his contract, so there should be no hurt feelings, right? And Ian knows he's not worth keeping around (childhood issues), so Jocelyn can't possibly think he's worth keeping around, right? Yet things get a bit out of control and they both get in too deep, but they can't say how they really feel because they both agreed to this end date. Which, of course, never works out well. But after the not-working-out-well part, it ends up really sweetly.

Super sexy read (with a Scottish hero!) and real, relatable characters. Jocelyn is turning thirty and wants to get a few things crossed off her bucket list. Okay, she wants to get ONE thing crossed off: a no-holds barred fling, preferable with her boss Ian. Ian resists (but no too much, just enough to make it fun) but finds himself wanting more.

I loved this book. It was sexy and sweet with a great hero and heroine. Great read!

The fling-turns-into-something-more trope, not done so well. Jocelyn is a curator at a museum, putting together a special exhibit with the help of Ian. They have the hots for each other but sex with a coworker is a bad idea, and he's only in town until the exhibit opens. Let's get the sex out of our system turns into oh wait, I kinda moved in, with no communication about their deepening feelings.

The details took me out of the story, from unrealistic emotional beats to a puppy that comes potty trained and fetches its leash on command (um, no). Eye rolling lead to fast reading and relief once I got to the end - can't say I recommend this one.

Meh. This was the New School BoTM for the OSRBC. It was just okay - I’m not terribly impressed and I’m glad it was free. They didn’t have an actual relationship; it was just about the sex and then all of a sudden, it seemed, the author tries to convince us they were actually in love.

I did like the bits with the puppy. Dogs and/or cats - gratuitous or otherwise - are always okay in my book. I also quite liked the ending; very cute, but not quite enough to save it for me. 2.5 stars.

Well, this was fun. It's not the perfect book by any means (I'm sure that you put stays under dress, not over it), but it was fun to read. I really liked the heroine. The author took a risky trope with LI (he "doesn't make love, he fucks") and made him sympathetic.
So if you're looking for a smutty romance that's also fun and fast read, this is a book for you.

So hot I might catch on fire!

This book was so good. It jumps right into the action and the smut is very nice. Who doesn't want a sexy Scottish man? I love Joce and Ian's relationship. Their banter is witty and fun to read. The puppy was an extra bit of adorable on top. Sometimes you just need a sexy, fun, easy book to make you smile (and pant!)
