Nineteen year old Rural Republic sniper, Junco Coot, has been lied to. Not once or twice, but pretty much everyone she ever trusted is totally full of sh*t. And now her father is dead, she's on the run, and everyone wants a piece of her--including one winged alien warrior named Tier.

But the truth always catches up and Junco has to choose who she should trust. The people who have lied and trained her to kill since she was a small child? Or the warriors who want to steal her away and use her as the catalyst in a plot to fight the final battle in an ancient war?

It's a choice that will change her fate forever. And once it's made--there's no turning back. Life becomes nothing but brutal killing in the name of vengeance. But everything requires sacrifice--everything has a price. And Junco is about to find out what it means to dedicate herself to saving someone else.

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

I love Ja Huss but not this series. This story moved slow at times and I felt like there were too much telling in book one, book two was like reading the hunger games, and book three moved extremely slow because of the flashback scenes that were way too long.

It’s like whatever obstacle Junco has there was a flashback scene that she had encountered that same obstacle which gave her power and advantage of the situation.

I disliked that every male character was in love with her and she in turn was in love with them. She was only 19 and had more sexual partners than I ever did at 40.

For a trained assassin/killer/hit man/etc she was way too immature and trusting. Everyone in her life lied to her or omitted truths to her. Which led her to be super emotional lash out and then be friends, trusting, and sleep with those same men in the following chapters.

I don’t understand how Junco was a bad ass in certain scenes (the really hard battles) and then a total scary cat in the next (super easy fights). Plus she whined and cursed too much.

I felt like a hamster in a wheel in book one because the story went on in circles. Captain Tier literally wanted to take Junco to his world but somehow they ended up going in circles in the compound. Then back and forth in a cave only to go back to her house and then finally leaving to Tier’s world.

When you get to book two all of the back and forth in book one felt unnecessary. I also felt that every time she would loose consciousness too much time lapsed and you as Junco was confused as to what happened only to be told to trust people but then they end up giving you a piece of information then they themselves tells you the other part of the truth that contradicts what they previously told you.

All the characters were in plausible, unrealistic, and had no real connection to Junco other than to bark out orders, tell her what to do, and then sleep/kiss/fall in love with her.

Too much inconsistency and then a convenient power emerges to win only for her to loose consciousness to start the reader on another unreasonable and unrealistic missions to figure things out when everyone around her knows but won’t tell her anything.

Ugh frustrating. I will not read/listen to next books in this confusing series.

The reader is outstanding at her craft and that’s why I kept listening to the end, otherwise, I would’ve DNF this book.

Junco!

This series is really fascinating. It’s addictive in that the highs are heavenly....but the lows are pure hell. There are so many changes in characters, who can be trusted and who is the enemy. At the end of this book, Junco is entrusting her heart yet again. But is she making the right choice and what and who is in her future? Hell if I know.

Hold onto your grandmas because there is no preparing yourself to read this book.

I went in blind. A blind, romance only reader. Good lord I wasn't prepared. I'm not sure what can prepare someone for this type of ride but it's worth it.

I am jacked up on adrenaline. I could not get enough of Junco. She is a tough nut to crack and I'm afraid we haven't even scratched the surface.

So much happens in these three books it's hard to narrow it all down into a proper review. Let me make it easy for you, READ THIS BOOK! No, it is not romance. Yes it is sci-fi. But Huss does what only Huss can do. She writes an amazing story and then infuses it with the classic Huss-mind-fuckery she is known for and that only she can do. The twist and turn and adventure these characters are on is one only Huss can create.

5 STARS!!!

OH.MY.GOOD!
I read all three of these books in TWO DAYS! I'm getting twitchy right now because I need to start the fourth, so this will be quick. I have to tell you I have never read a story like this ever. Sci-fi is new to me, I did not know how I would feel about the genre. It really doesn't matter what genre your reading, when the writing, storyline, and characters are impeccable!

Here's proof of the AMAZING writing abilities and imagination of JA Huss. I read these because I loved her other series, which is completely different, but NOT anymore or less OUTSTANDING, CAPTIVATING, AND INTRIGUING!

Why isn't everyone reading this great series?? GET ON IT!

“But I do have power. The power of me. I am my own true north and I can shift myself”.

CLUTCH
Holy wow this first book is a rollercoaster of emotions paired with an edge of your seat experience, I absolutely loved it! Each chapter will make your mind pile up with questions to only make you want more of those answers with each page turn.
Junco is a kick butt character who doesn’t let anything get in her way as well as a person who lets her emotional side out when she wants to. Tier… wow, what wasn’t to love! I loved this duo right from the beginning, even through their back and forth fighting. I really enjoyed their reactions to each other especially Junco’s.
If the rest of this series is anything like this book… bring it on! Can’t wait to see what’s next in store.
5 stars

FLEDGE
Once again, JA Huss did not disappoint… I loved book 2! It was another rollercoaster of emotions story with Junco sticking to what she believes is right. I loved her strong character even more in this book and her attitude just made me want a best friend just like her.
Same with the previous book (and any other really!) it will make your mind explode with questions desperately wanting them answered. Each chapter was an edge of your seat experience again, only making me want to read faster just to find out what happens next.
After the ending to this book, I can’t wait to dive right into book 3.
5 stars

FLIGHT
My mind has been blown by the intricate words JA Huss pulls together. Each new chapter takes you on a different rollercoaster where you’re begging to never be let off.
These characters and their world?! Just wow… Junco has literally been to hell and back in such a short time and she still keeps on fighting even when she wants to give up. I absolutely loved her character and persona when it comes to everything she does, including her family and team. My heart just broke for her and some of the other characters at times especially towards the end… like why did that happen??!! I absolutely loved the guys in this book and I’m sure the next one will bring even more unsuspecting moments.

I Am Just Junco Audio
2.5 Stars

I Am Just Junco Audio was recommended by an online book buddy, "For those who love the Firebird Chronicles by T. A. White." Personally, I thought that was a tall order, but I felt like giving it a try. Firebird Chronicles are fantastic and a favorite series of mine. This is my first time reading JA Huss.

I love that our main character, Junco is strong and kicks a lot of ass and the alien race is interesting enough. The book's description sounded interesting. However, the book didn't deliver.

I gave up on this book in Chapter 30. The execution was not well done. I got tired of waiting for the book to get started. I was left in the dark too long, with no answers, and the plot movement, at times, is non-existent. This book couldn't hold my attention and I didn't want to waste any more of my time. I prefer faster-paced books and don't find it on a par with the Firebird Chronicles. Someone with more patience than me may enjoy this book, but I will not continue the series. [ So this is book 2 which explains why I'm so confused]

I was very happy with the narration. The speech is clear and well paced. They voiced the male and female characters well.

This was a long audiobook. Which makes sense because, it’s 3 books in one. The narrator did an amazing job. She was able to give each character a different voice/accent which makes it easier to know who was speaking. Her male voices were alluring. I would catalogue this book as an YA because, we didn’t get specific spice scenes. The world building was magnificent and I loved everything about it. The main character showed a lot of character development. Which I’m here for. If you love prophecies, dystopia, sci-fic, reverse harem, fantasy romance and strong female character, then this book is for you. I definitely recommend it, I enjoyed this book all the way through and can’t wait to continue the series.

I am not sure how I feel about this series. Parts of it was great, exciting, sad and happy and other parts were slow, confusing and long. Parts of this book reminded me of Hunger Games, but that isnt a bad thing. Julie is an amazing writer and I think I remember someone saying this was her first lot of books she published. For me I prefer her other books. I still have the other box set to listen to, and I will carry on.

A dystopian Sci-fi with religious undertones.

Clutch = 2 Stars

I’ll say that the first installment was ambitious! The world is immersive with new twists at the end of every chapter, and the action scenes are great. I enjoyed the plot jumping right in at the deep end.

My issues, and reason for a relatively low rating, can mostly be summed up as repetition and a lousy protagonist. Whilst the plot is engaging and overflowing with lore, the protagonist, Junco, doesn’t have an active role. She’s pulled from one event to another and asks inane questions the entire time. I understand the necessity of not info-dumping, but it was beyond frustrating to be reading from the POV of a character who NEVER had any idea what was happening.

I don’t think I should be at Chapter 36 of a novel and still have no idea what the plot is about. I think the main problem is that everything is revealed to Junco through exposition dialog. She doesn’t figure anything out for herself and instead relies solely on the secondary characters to explain.

In addition, the flashbacks were frustrating. One moment Junco was mooching about as a lazy, confused protagonist, and then was suddenly revealed to be a kick-ass assassin / spy / military person / god? I had to re-listen to the chapter again because I was convinced I’d somehow skipped past the reveal. And, whilst the personality change was welcome, it took a while to get used to how abruptly it appeared.

Fledge = 0.5 Stars

Oh my. It's been a while since I felt such hatred toward a protagonist. If I hadn't already committed so much time to this, I would have DNF'd.

I usually enjoy dark fiction and have no problem reading from the POV of questionable characters. But in the case of Junco, she’s written as though I’m meant to like her! Despite spending

Potentially, Junco would have been more sympathetic had the reasoning for the gladiator-style fights been fleshed out, but without that information, I despised the protagonist and her 'friends' who sanctioned the events.

In the spirit of honesty, the action is well-written and would be very compelling if the main characters weren't so awful. Nobody has clear motives or personalities. In fact, the only clear trait exhibited by ALL (specifically male) secondary characters is their unconditional love, and severe gaslighting, of Junco.

Flight = 1 Star

The action scenes continue to be exciting in the third installment, and the plot is more cohesive than in previous novels. By this thin virtue alone, I will grant Flight 1 Star.

That being said, I can't stand the characters. Junco's personality flips from paragraph to paragraph, as does her past, skills, and relationships with all secondary characters.

A side note: I dislike how Junco has to CONSTANTLY out-trauma all other characters. It made sense in the first book because we were getting to know her as a protagonist, but by Flight, we were still getting constant trama dumping. 'Oh, another character has a kind of sucky past?' GUESS WHO HAS A WORST PAST!?

I acknowledge that the action scenes are incredible, and kept me reading thus far. However, I will not be pursuing this series further. I’m tired of the pointless character gaslighting for the sake of plot progression and conflict. Considering this is the third book the 'truth' should have been revealed, but instead the contrived plot points keep getting retconned from chapter to chapter.

Starts off Amazingly Well and then Reiterates by the 3rd Book

Love the sniper angle, mix in cloning, aliens political machinations, skullduggery as well as ancient Sumerian religion and you have this book in a nutshell. How the author mixed all these disparate things into a credible, fast-paced adventure I have no idea, but it was achieved. The first book reads at 100mph, the second about 80, by the third, I found spots where I felt I was lugging it in third gear. More mutants? How many clones can there be in three books?

If the last book had been a different book, this would have been a 5 star review, but it felt like the author sinks into gratuitous reiteration of both the Siblings Myths and the rampant genetic engineering. The Battle Royale at the end just seemed rather blah, and don't get me started on the book endings themselves.

I don't know if I will read any further in the series. Jumbo and Lucan are my two favorite characters, so I might, only time will tell.

I highly recommend buying this omnibus edition, as you won't have to be frustrated by cliffhanger endings and can keep going through book three. Books four and five are already available separately.

Other than my frustration with the third book, I enjoyed this immensely.

This book has all sorts of things that don't generally appeal to me: aliens (sort of), political intrigue, lots of fights and descriptions of fights and military-ness. However, the first book hooked me pretty hard, and I will admit to leaving some more important tasks and responsibilities waiting while I read all three. It was almost a relief to finish it because I had stuff that I needed to get done!

Junco is a strong, female character. I like the fact that she is not 100% perfect -- she has some pretty glaring faults. Imperfect characters are more appealing than flat ones.

One thing that jumped out and really bugged me was the twining in the third book. Why could Junco "put up walls" and not share her thoughts or hear Isten's thoughts, but Isten couldn't do the same? Also, if they are twined even in death, why couldn't she hear Gideon's thoughts, or he hers while they were separated? Those petty points aside, it's a fun read.

I'm not sure if I'll read the rest of the series or not -- after three books in any series I'm usually pretty sated. But maybe in a month or two I'll be ready for more.

Who will like this one? I'm not sure, because I didn't expect to but did.

What a world Julie has created!! If you love sci-fi, demons and angels then you HAVE to read this series! They are the first three and I swear they got better and better as I read. You get sucked in immediately! Julie has weaved together this world and their characters so brilliantly I am in awe. The twists and turns had me on a emotional roller coaster ride! I cried more than once. Why? Because you fall in love with these characters. You can’t help it. I’m eager to read the next books. See what Junco will face, if she will change for the better or not. I don’t understand how this series hasn’t gotten more readers. I don’t understand how it hasn’t been picked up for TV or the big screen. I love Star Wars, Stargate, Lucifer, and Shadow Hunters, it reminded me of these series at one point or another. This series would be that good on screen. If ever there was a book series underrated. It is this one! Do yourself a favor, read it.

Grew on me

I admit, I spent the first book lost, dazed and confused. It might help if the author put a glossary inn the front breAking down areas, politics and factions. To tell the truth, even after three books, I am still confused by much of this. The author tends to throw things out there like we should know what she is talking about, when we don't. I hated that Junco was lied to so much and never understood how she forgave the president for getting her put on trial with a death sentence. All characters are constantly flipping from being good guys to being bad guys or dishonest or using Junco. It's really confusing. So why would I give it four stars? Well, the writing itself was very good. It was gripping and she made me care about the characters. Especially Junco. If you start reading this series, don't give up w

This story is pretty freaking good, it’s a sci-fi dystopian, well written and the characters are well developed within this story.

I am very hard-core romance reader, who really enjoys also reading mysteries that have some romance in them so, I am not a person who gravitates to other genres.
Huss writing this story, with two huge omnibus books 📕, made this story a must read for me! It’s very underrated and more people should definitely give this a read.

I also eventually purchased the audiobooks for this story and I can tell you that J.A. Huss spared no expense with her choice of narrators for this book and their voices were incredible at bringing the characters to life.

I definitely recommend it for Teens, YA and Adult readers.

Simply amazing!

This really isn't the type of book I go for, however, JA Huss has got me hooked on her other books so I thought I would give this series a go - wow, I am kind of blown away.

The first hour was a little challenging, but then I got the hang of it and got hooked. There are moments when I still get a little lost, but it really doesn't matter as I get there in the end. The twists and turns are brilliant, the characters are awesome. Junco reminds me a little of Lisbeth Salander in Steig Larsson's books (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc.)

I have no problem recommending this Omnibus and series, which I am off to continue reading.

Fabulous!

This volume includes the first three books in the 'I Am Junco' series. Please see my individual reviews for each book. While there are some things that happen in the books that I don't like as a reader, the overall story, so far, still makes it a worthwhile read. Junco's memory issues, the use of clones, mythology, and the opposing sides with differing interests all add to Junco's - and the reader's - confusion about what is real and who to believe. I will add that I am not happy with how the third book ends in this volume, but I will keep reading the series and hope that I am not disappointed in the end.

Whether you're a sci-fi fan or not, this is a MUST READ SERIES for anyone who loves a complex story. It's so out of the box that I'd find myself reading for awhile then sitting for awhile just so I could wrap my head around what had happened. I was never sure from one minute to the next if I liked, hated, or loved any given character and that included Junco. My emotions felt like they'd taken a ride on a Tilt-A-Whirl by the time I'd completed these three books. And I couldn't order the remaining books in the series fast enough.

I Highly Recommend this Omnibus!

I have read the individual books multiple times and having them divided into two omnibuses is quite delightful. Especially on audio. Treat yourself.

Junco is a phenomenon. She is an assassin trying to survive in a world of avians, clones, AIs, mutants, and worst of all, humans. No one is truthful, everyone has an agenda, secrets are being kept, and in the middle of it all, she just has to keep on killing and trying to figure out what's really going on.

This is my favorite series of all time.

Earth, 2155: Artificial Intelligence. Clones. Various republics, each with an independent government and secret agendas.

Junco: nineteen-years-old. Highly trained soldier/sniper. Deadly. Rebellious. Feisty.

Avians: ancient alien race with a connection to Earth and a particular interest in Junco.

Conspiracies. Secrets. Mythology. Action & adventure. Violence. Twists.

I really enjoyed these three books, but I’ll admit to some confusion at times over the numerous secrets being kept by the various factions – mainly surrounding Junco and her mysterious origins.

I bought the 2 omnibus volumes which are so low priced its ridiculous.....and I was thrilled to find brand new EOBS in the first one. All you fellow Hussy's out there know what i'm talking about. These books deserve a whole milky way of stars!

Interesting story or stories since it's a collection of 3. The author puts the protagonist through *a lot* and almost everyone in her life lies to her outright or through omission. Of course, all the males love her and while this isn't a reverse harem there isn't one main love interest at this point. I do like that she can make the choice to have sex with whoever she wants. Don't know if I'll continue the series or not.

A wild ride

Raised to be an assassin, Junco is quite deadly. Her past is filled with pain and she has been deceived and used beyond belief. Her past is as much a question to her as is her purpose and future. With gaping holes in her memory, and so many lies, who can she trust?

This was a brutal and fun story.

Adding her voice to those of Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth, JA Huss has created a chilling world of lies and hidden motives in this dystopian sci-fiction thriller. I loved Junco's strength and vulnerability throughout and questioned everything right along with her. Can't wait to get the second Omnibus and see where this is all leading!

fantastic!

I loved this! Set in the future, on earth and in the band where the Avians live. There is a lot of killing in this book. A lot. But it’s necessary for the story. Lots of suspense and tension, and a few twists. I can’t wait to start the next omnibus to read more of Junco’s story.
