Emmalina is an immortal darkling. A half human, half dark witch. Though she was born with all six emotions, she has arrived at her eighteenth birthday and all but one miserable emotion has fled her body. The mission of the dark witches who control the new, darker world is simple—eradicate weakness. Weakness is summed up in one word. Emotion. Or, the six. Anger, fear, sadness, joy, surprise, and love. The dark witches want her. She wants something else more. She wants six.
Rachel grew up in a small, quiet town full of loud talkers. Her words were always only loud on paper. She has been writing stories and creating characters for as long as she can remember. After living on the west coast for many years she now resides in Colorado with her husband, two children, her hairless cat, and her dog, Polly.
My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 unicorns - I really liked it!! **Received ebook as part of the blog tour for an honest review
The cover is absolutely stunning and would totally get my attention :) I’m not sure what it is about eyes, but they are what attract me :)
Okay, this is definitely a different book. At first, I didn’t think I was going to like it because I wasn’t connecting. I think this is the design of the book though. Because they main character is lacking emotions, you are sort of in her shoes while you are reading. As the story goes not though, I became more and more involved in the story, and it drew more of my attention and emotions. Emma is unusual, and you are always getting more details that you had no clue was coming. There are a few areas where I was confused.
Some of the characters are just hilarious especially Lana who was my favorite. She totally reminds me of a high school student with her attitude and snarkiness. There really is quite a bit going on with the battles and drama going on. The dialogue and descriptions used by the author come together quite nicely.
Finn is a great guy who is always there for everyone and is a man of his word which I find very admirable. He is a protector and friend.
Okay the ending for me was both awesome and sucky, but you will have to read it to see what I mean. I refuse to ruin the journey in the story for anyone. In the end, it was quite an emotional rollercoaster.
I recommend this to anyone who wants a new spin on witches and emotions with magic throughout. ;)

The idea behind SIX is what hooked me first. Half human, half witch, darklings, like Emma, do not feel emotions. As they age, they either forget what emotions feel like, or give them up to gain power. As someone who prefers to not show emotions (except maybe anger :D), I was super curious to see how the author would pull of an unfeeling character.
Emma is a hard character to grasp at the start of SIX, and that’s on purpose. Because she doesn’t have most emotions, it’s difficult to relate to her. I thought the author did a good job of showing what little Emma feels at the start, both with the style of writing and how Emma interacts with those around her.
As a Darkling who is very nearly “gone,” or totally unfeeling, Emma is in danger of being killed by her new allies. She must either relearn emotions and live, fail and be killed, or surrender to be the wife of the ruler of the darklings. Only the first option is a good one, since both of the others would result in her death.
Over the course of SIX, Emma does manage to relearn most emotions. I’ll let you read to see if she succeeds in finding all of the six: fear, anger, sadness, surprise, joy, and love. Love, naturally, is the hardest to feel, but Emma is sure that she’ll be able to feel it with Finn, the first male darkling she meets. Considered an abomination, male darklings are not allowed to procreate, and Finn guards his heart so that he doesn’t fall for anyone.
For a good part of SIX, I wasn’t convinced with the relationship between Emma and Finn. I wasn’t sure why Emma was so captivated by Finn (even though he is hot and a nice guy). It seemed a bit weird to me that she would be so interested in the first male she’s ever seen, to the point of wanting to love him. Eventually there is an explanation, which helped the relationship make more sense to me. I’ll let you find that one out, too.
Emma’s process of relearning emotions is one of the best parts of SIX. She’s aided in this by both Finn and Lana. Lana was the standout of the book for me, a total kickbutt character who spoke her mind alllll of the time. Lana protects and befriends Emma, and gives her a kick in the behind when necessary.
SIX is set in a really interesting world. That world was my other favorite part of the book, so I wish there had been a little more information on it, but what is there is really cool. Darklings like Lana who give up their magic live in circles, where there is mostly nothingness. In the Dark Citadel, where dark witches who have embraced their powers and given up emotions, the world is built on magic, and mostly fake. It’s a good contrast, and I like that SIX is a New Adult Dystopian book.
An interesting read for sure, especially if you like seeing characters grow and change in a book.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I also participated in the blog tour for this book.
Emma is in danger of becoming just like the dark witches. She is losing all that makes her human. While she is only half human and dark witch she wants to get the six emotions back. All alone with only one emotion left she has to work on getting the others back. While the dark witches hunt her with the help of some new friends she slowly gets her human side back. With Finn she truly begins to feel more. The dark witches won't give up easily and Finn has to hold back from her. She will go through many things to stay human.
Emma is like an empty shell at first in some ways. She really only knows fear then anger. She has been sheltered all her life by her mother and only knows what her mom tells her. She is a likable character as she tries to not use her powers and tries to fit in. You can tell Finn makes her feel more even when she doesn't even realize it yet. Finn wants to protect all from the dark witches and has to keep his desires under control. There isn't many males around and he had to give up something to live. He seems like a jerk at first but the more you read about him it is just his way of trying to protect others and his self.
I have read many books about witches but none like this. Witches pretty much boil down to good ones who don't use their powers and can feel and evil ones who have no emotion and want to destroy ones who do have emotion. It is set in a time humans have pretty much become extinct. Emma tries her best to get her emotions back and you see what life is like for both sides of witches. I love how she doesn't give up and even around new things she will not be talked about like she isn't there. She lets you know she is there. She has a lot of spunk and drive and for all she goes through it is a good thing. I kept hoping her and Finn would get together as they are perfect for each other. Many things keep them apart and I hated one thing Emma has happen to her. This book keeps you reading and holds your interest very well. You get to understand more as you read about what kind of place the world is now. I like most of the characters a few I didn't but anyone who reads won't like them either. I loved the ending and think the author did an excellent job on it. This is a fantastic original book I would recommend to any paranormal lover out there.
When the dark witches took over the world, they killed humans to eradicate weakness. Six emotions are considered weak - anger, fear, sadness, joy, surprise and love.
When immortal darkling Emmalina Weaver turns eighteen, most of her emotions have disappeared. When the dark witches arrive to take her to the palace to start her life as a breeder, the last of Emma's fear causes her to run away. In the haunted woods, she meets Lena and Bec. They are half witch, half human as well, but more human than witch because they were raised not to use their magic. Lena sees that Emma is not fully changed to the dark side and offers to help her feels her emotions again. However, the dark witches are still searching for Emma. They will not quit until she is dead. How far will her new friends go to save her from her fated life?
I GIVE THIS BOOK: 5 Stars
I found this book to be absolutely delightful.
While I read this book in one sitting, it took awhile. That is because I devoured each and every word. The story of Emma's journey was captivating from page one. Never was there a dull moment as the story filled the pages without becoming too busy or unbelievable.
As Emma is trying to learn and feel the six emotions, the reader feels them as well...plus more. It is very easy to hand your heart over to this story; to imagine yourself as Emma and the man you love as Finn. They way love is described, the backbone of fairy tales, is the collaboration of all my secret girl fantasies.
The only con - I wish there was a chapter at the end that explained why Finn and Lana were so close.
If you could only have one emotion what would it be? For Emmalina her last emotions are fear and anger - the rest have been taken from her by the dark witches. Dark witches who have a plan for her that will strip her of even these last two. So she runs - and she finds herself in a new world. A world of emotions and a world without magic. But the dark witches hunt her - she is more important to their plans than any of her new friends realize. As she struggles to find the remaining four emotions and free herself from the destiny planned for her, she finds friends and a new family. Her journey is a little scattered and jumpy, I was very confused at the beginning, there wasn't a lot of backstory in the beginning to understand what a dark witch, darkling or savage was. You kind of had to figure it out along the way. There is one bad scene that involves a rape that will turn some people off - it was an important step in the storyline, but it did make me very uncomfortable to read it. Overall a very intriguing story and journey that made me think of all the good emotions I take advantage of feeling every day.
At first, it starts off a little confusing. But as the book progresses, it makes more sense and it gets really good. Overall, a fantastic book. I highly recommend.
