Belinda Glick, a lovely Amish girl from Ohio, decides to explore the other world during the time of her Rumspringa. In her desire to 'just have fun' she risks having her naivete challenged by Dan, a young college student. Her parents are distraught over their daughter's rebellious behavior and decide to send her to Lancaster County, PA, to stay with her Aunt Emma and Uncle Gabe until she learns to behave with more maturity. The Zook family takes her under their wing and she finds herself needed when one of the Zook sisters gives birth. While in Pennsylvania, Belinda discovers a new crowd, but will she fit in with the English ways? How firm are her moral values? Strong enough to keep her pure? A young man she befriends speaks to her of his love, but who will win over the heart of this challenging young woman?
June Bryan Belfie began writing in her 70s and has written over 30 books. Her Amish novels became best sellers on Amazon Kindle, and her work has been published with both Harlequin and Desert Breeze. You can find most of her books available at Barnes and Nobles in paperback or e-book. Soon audio books will be available for some of her Amish and Christian-based novels.
While raising five children, June found time to take up oil painting and studied under several nationally known artists. She also loved to play the piano, sing, and sew.
In the 1970’s, she and her husband, Jim, purchased and operated a thirty-eight-room country inn located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania where she established an art gallery as well as creative workshops, which took place in a converted recreation hall. Professional artists and writers from all over the country presided over classes held during the summer months.
In addition to inn-keeping, Ms. Belfie has owned a restaurant, cooked professionally, worked in a bank, collected and sold antiques, directed a church choir, and served as a Stephen's Minister.
She enjoys her eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as her adult children and their spouses. She now resides in Media, Pennsylvania.
Liked this book except for the ending, Belinda is an Amish girl who gives her parents fits during her rumspringa. Her parents send her to her uncle in PA, hoping the time away will help settle her down. I wanted to like Belinda but didn't. And in the end, her boyfriend tells her his feelings and all of a sudden, things are fine. Not very believable! There are other books in the series...will have to wait for a bargain to read the others.
A young Amish girl with rebellion in her heart. She just wants excitement but it leads to trouble. She gets sent to her Aunt house for safety and reflection but winds up trouble again, but at last realizes who she loves
It was well written and somewhat a change from the typical Amish novel. I really don't think it is realistic for most people to give up the world for such a severe faith. Jeff becoming Mennonite was a good compromise.
I spent the whole day reading this heartwarming story from beginning to end! Amish stories keep our mind on God's plans for us and at the same time, feeding our love of reading. This author is so gifted with the art of words!
Another great Amish read! I'm discovering that I love the author June Bryan Belfie. She never ceases to amaze me in keeping me interested in her story. I will continue on in this series! Great Job!
I really enjoyed reading this book. An amish girl torn from wanting to have fun in the English world but still remain rooted to her amish upbringing. I thought it was a really great story.
I thought it was a good book. It was a story about Belinda, an Amish teenager who wanted to stop being so "bored", as she put it. Well, she did have some excitement, but not the good kind, if you know what I mean! At times, I felt like she just wasn't learning the lessons here! Didn't she know that there are always consequences from bad decisions? She made me so frustrated at times and at other times she was the most caring person there could be. Belinda had a personality that one could relate to, as I think we all can agree that we all make bad choices sometimes in our lives. But in the end, she did finally learn from her bad decisions. I was glad that she ultimately found what, (or who) she was looking for. But, the ending came to an end so fast, as I felt a little baffled by it. "What happens next?", I thought to myself. Then it dawns on me, oh yeah, a sequel! Guess I'll have to wait for the next book!
This book did not work for me. The protagonist was stereotypically sheltered, and therefore made bad decisions at every turn. The English were represented as partying every weekend, and consistently utilizing alcohol and drugs among young teens. And the solution provided by the author add not completely satisfying.
It was ok. When the young Amish become of age there allowed to sow their oats and that get them in all kinds of trouble, you would think the family's would realize it doesn't work. There in just to much of a cultural differences . The family made me angry they let her go out and then we're upset because she did..
Belinda is a teenager and desires to have some excitement in her life. She has English friends and goes to parties with them. She ends up getting in trouble with her parents and gets sent to relatives in another state. Should she be Amish or does she want to live as the Englishers do. A good story l recommend.
Good story about how bad decisions can hurt you and those who love you.
The picture of family life was special. Even with bad decisions, if you know the Lord in your life, he can help you figure it out. The Amish Mennonite connection was a good solution for a problem that could face some.
This story confused me in the beginning because of too many characters and the plot jumped from one character to another. It wasn't till about a third of the way through that it started to make sense.
A continuation of the large extended Zook family....with the trial of growing up as an Amish girl in her teens..and unsure of how she wants to spend the rest of her life.
An interesting story, but the plot was a bit far fetched for an Amish novel. I just can't imagine an Amish girl who claims she wants to join the church, doing some of the things that she did. I really felt the story was a bit unbelievable, I prefer the more traditional Amish books.
Not a favorite. I managed to finish it. Just seemed impossible to keep all the characters straight there were so many. Have read other Amish stories I enjoyed and that was why I purchased this one.
This was a great book. I truly enjoyed reading this book I thought Belinda was a little head strong But after awhile I.think she calm herself down..this was a. Very enjoyable read look forward to reading book 2 in this series.
A typical Amish story dealing with differences between the outside world and their own. This one focuses on a young woman who is caught betweenthe 2 and needs to settle her life down and make a decision.
