The second book in the unique Ivy Grace Spell series, T.A. Foster has served up another winner, and I enjoyed this installment as much, if not better than the first.

Ivy is a witch in possession of a skill that allows her to travel back in time. What she has done is record her observations for the general public, releasing a series of novels that are gaining in popularity. Unfortunately, history does have a way of repeating itself and Ivy is unwittingly thrust into the middle of a decades old obsession of a madman with magic and immortality on his side.

Ivy’s book has been adapted to film and they are in New Orleans, scene of the story Ivy witnessed firsthand. The actress Emmy is a bit of a diva, the leading man, Evan is just gorgeous and quite friendly. Ivy and Evan are starting a tentative relationship when all hell, literally steps in.

Emmy, in one of her snits, has walked off set and stopped production. It isn’t until she doesn’t turn up again, and Ivy’s ex-boyfriend, Finn, the witch/detective that broke her heart and her trust more often than not appears.

What Ivy witnessed those many years ago was a young woman, daughter of the French Consul, running from home with her navy boyfriend. While Ivy saw little than a lovely and sweet romance, the truth involves many years of danger, obsession and magic. Women who resemble Josette, who left her father’s home that rainy New Orleans night have been kidnapped, repeatedly with no suspect on the police radar. Only Ivy and Finn have the skill and the power of their combined witchcraft skills to bring the story to a close and find the actress Emmy before it’s too late.

In this book we get to learn more about Ivy, and see her struggle with trying to heal her heart and move forward. We also see that her teenaged rebellion and unwillingness to learn about magic has impacted her abilities and her understanding of them. Add in a Voodoo practitioner, a flirtation with the man she gave up to protect him and the ability to finally close the chapter on the relationship drama with Finn, the character sub-plots are as intriguing as the action. Finn’s behavior is explained, if not understood or forgiven, and Ivy’s abilities continue to grow as she learns and develops confidence with her ‘witchy side’.

A bit more adult in nature than the first, this book fits nicely into the NA genre with the character development, situations and revelations. Unique twists on both witchcraft and time travel keeps the reader intrigued and involved in the story and wondering what will happen next.

I received an eBook from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Cross Spell is a cute witchy mystery series. We first met our adorable witch Ivy in Time Spell, where she traveled back in time, stumbled upon a love triangle, wrote a book about it, only to find out the actual events did not turn out how she had thought. But, we won’t get into that too much, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone if you haven’t read the series yet.

In Time Spell, Ivy was at it again, traveling back into time, writing a fabulous story about a young couple in love, who ran away to be together in 1945. Only this time, the novel was so huge, it was being turned into a movie!

Ivy is onset in New Orleans, where the novel is based, desperately trying to move on from her own broken heart. Even catching the eye of the lead actor Evan Carlson. Well, that’s until her ex boyfriend, also a witch, Finn shows up at her door step…

Things on the set turn chaotic after the leading lady disappears one afternoon while on the movie set. Completely vanished. Finn, a detective, joins in the search efforts. Although, he does have an ulterior motive of winning Ivy back. Completely stuck in his charm spell, Ivy finds herself forgiving Finn for all of the pain he’s caused her in the past and agrees to work with him in solving the kidnapping. This turns out to be harder than they could ever imagine since black magic was involved!

A series of events brings these two completely full circle, Ivy finds herself being hurt all over again, being torn between two loves. Ivy has discovered that she is more important in the witch world than she ever would have thought. She is not just your ordinary witch... she is special, a Laurel, and now she needs to broaden those magic powers.

I loved this series! I found Ivy to be an adorable, strong, determined witch who is not to be messed with. I was extremely surprised to find myself sucked into the story line, the mystery, paranormal, love romance of it was amazing to watch unfold. Although the story did bounce between present time and past time, when Ivy time traveled, there was never a moment where I felt it was too much where I couldn’t follow the story line. T.A. Foster was so involved in the details of every single scene, I felt as though I was actually there with them. Great read!

Enjoy <3

After having read and enjoyed the first book in the Ivy Grace Spell Series, I was very excited to receive a copy of the second, Cover Spell, for review. T.A. Foster has developed a fun, paranormal series that revolves around Ivy Grace- a writer who also happens to be a witch. In both books, Ivy finds herself amidst mysterious happenings and ends up playing detective to figure out what is going on and if paranormal forces are at work.

In this book, as the blurb states, she is spending time in New Orleans with her new script turned movie production. She is still hurting over the events that occurred at the end of Time Spell and New Orleans proves to be the perfect distraction from her now non-existent love life. Or is it...?

The biggest surprise of this book is the reemergence of her ex-boyfriend and love Finn. Oh, Finn. I really liked him, but he was really hard to get a read on. Ivy is very wary of him, as he has broken her heart once before. I don't blame her for being cautious and always questioning his motives. He claims he wants her back, but she can't go through the same heartbreak she did before. Trust is not something that she can afford to give Finn, even though I really liked them together.

I am really excited to read Finn's book next because I think there's a whole other layer to him that needs to be discovered! I want to know more about his Shadow Quest and find out what his true feelings for Ivy are. Like I said, I felt it was hard to figure him out- what was real and what wasn't.

Foster is a very descriptive writer and she gives Ivy such a fun voice. It comes across as a bit cheesy at times, but overall I was as fully invested in solving the crime as Ivy was.

I did miss Jack in this book though. He played a major role in the first book, but only makes a cameo in this one. I felt bad for Ivy because she had to make some really difficult decisions, but I admire that she would sacrifice her own happiness for the protection of one she cares about. The ending definitely leaves us open as to where Foster will take Ivy's romance next and I can't wait to find out, as well as join her for the next case!

I was so excited to read this book after I fell in love with the first book in the series and though I did feel that Time Spell was a better read, I still really enjoyed Cover Spell and once again, I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

So, Ivy is back and working on her novel Masquerade, being turned into a movie when one of the films main characters goes missing. Filming gets put on hold as Ivy and her ex, Finn, go on a hunt to find the leading lady. With lots of new discoveries creating unexpected and unknown twists, Cover Spell is another book in The Ivy Grace Spell Series that will keep your mind working to find out how all the clues come together.

I’ll admit, by the time I finished chapter six I did know who was behind the disappearance of Emmy but I wasn’t sure exactly how it was possible. I had a theory which was completely wrong so I loved that there was always the element of suspense and trying to guess what was happening before Ivy and Finn did.

I think Finn’s charm spell worked on me in book one because I loved him and was really looking forward to seeing more from him in Cover Spell but I didn’t really feel anything towards him in this book. I was hoping for more of the sexy, mysterious, charming kind of guy he was in Time Spell but felt he came up short this time around.

What I did absolutely love in this book was the story of Josette and Luke, the young couple who Ivy wrote about in Masquerade after one of her time travels. It was so romantic and emotional, and I wish we had the chance to see more of them in Cover Spell because that was where the true love story of this book was for me.

We also find out a little about Finn’s quest which has me desperate to know more so I’m really happy for the chance to have my questions answered in Shadow Quest which will be a companion novel available next year and of course, more from Ivy in the next book in The Ivy Grace Spell Series.

Cover Spell is the second installment in the Ivy Grace Series. There is going to be 4 in this series including a story about Finn and I am ecstatic about that. I kind of grew to really like Finn in this novel even if he has an abandonment problem. In my opinion, Cover Spell was better than the first . The Time Spell story was a lot more intriguing, romantic, and contained a lot more witchy happenings. You even learn more about Ivy and her past!!

The ability to Time Spell has seriously affected Ivy’s life and I am not convinced that is the best thing for her. I am torn between whether or not Ivy should just stop Time Spelling. It got her into big trouble in the first book and she finds herself in a similar position in the second book because of it. That just might be the price you pay to be a witch, choice or no choice.

I loved the reemergence of Finn, you briefly hear about him in book one but you get to find out a lot more about him in book 2. Poor Ivy just can’t catch a break when it comes to men, magical or human. I really wanted her to end up with Jack in the end of the first book but I really respected the hard decision she made. I hope that eventually Ivy gets her fairy tale ending because I like her character.

I would recommend this book to all adult readers. There are some brief moments of sex that I would not recommend for younger readers. It is a fabulous tale spun with romance, mystery and a good helping of the paranormal!

This is book two in the series. The setting is New Orleans and the main character Ivy is charming and endearing. If you are "Team Finn", you will not be able to put it down. Ms. Foster creates a captivating storyline using a movie production in New Orleans as a backdrop. Her character development is excellent and she does an exceptional job of making them come alive on the pages. Ivy feels like your best girlfriend which finds you cheering for her to solve the mystery of the disappearing women. Plus, the chemistry between Ivy and Finn takes your breath away.

I highly recommend this book. The two book set would make an excellent stocking stuffer!

Cover Spell is the second book in The Ivy Grace Spell Series. This book is as good as the first one.

The story follows the witch Ivy who is on the set of her new movie and the return of her ex boyfriend Finn.

A mysterious, romantic read that everyone should read.

Looking forward to read the next book in the series.
