INSTA-LUST, HERO-SAVES-THE-WORLD-YADA-SNORE

DUMB. DUMB. DUMB. SO DUMB IT HURTS.
JUST SHUT UP. YOU'RE STUPID.
This waste-of-kindle-space relies so much on clichés and INSTA-LUST that I was bored by the first few pages.
1. Russian baddies - tick
2. Americans goodies - tick (they save the world dontcha know)
3. Tall, dark OMG handsome I-PROTECT-YOUR-FREEDOMS-SO-GIVE-ME-A-BLOW*JOB- HERO - tick
4. TRIES TOO HARD TO BE SASSY-HEROINE - tick
Hero: John 'Mac' McKinsey - vomit-inducing, I'm-TOUGH-as-Nails THUMPS-CHEST LOSER. The type of hero that tries way too hard to be tough but comes across as a silly man-child.
This so-called skilled spy/assassin/operative extraordinaire is meant to be adapt at assessing difficult and dangerous situations – OH PUH-LEEZE!!!
IN CONTROL HE IS NOT! His approach to hiding in her room and then muffling her mouth was unnecessary, juvenile and made no logical sense. He's meant to be a skilled US operative (mind-control etc) but he behaves like an angst-y teen??!! There are covet means of getting the job done – this isn’t it.
He doesn't even know how to manipulate a situation to his favour (a skill Operatives are meant to possess in abundance)- instead he constantly riles the heroine (Emily).
Heroine: Emily Richards – highly strung, emotionally unstable, whinging, constantly SWOONING over the hero tedious bore.
Eurgh - GET A GRIP WOMAN. It was soooooo tedious, INSTA-LUST, all she does is swoon over him or gets annoyed with him. There's even a pep talk that HE-SAVES-LIVES-IS-GOD therefore she ought to put up with it. PUH-LEEZE!!!! She’s either constantly yelling, being angst-y, melodramatic, heartache, or swooning. Her emotions run from one spectrum to another.
Then there's the writing style which is as THICK AS SH*IT.
Examples of HOW BAD IT IS:
List of all the swooning that occurs (immediately btw - there IS NO BUILD UP).
This man's body was yummy, yummy delicious, dipped in fudge and covered with sprinkles.
She fought to gather her wits.
Wits? She has any? This from a lawyer who's in the middle of dealing with an INTENSE situation. A few pages haven't gone by and the first case of swooning occurs soon after he sneaked into her room and muffled her (for NO LOGICAL reason what-so-ever). Seriously - what?!
The thought of Mac completely naked anywhere in her proximity sent goose bumps running a marathon up and down her spine.
This was a random interjection. Few pages haven't gone in, not much has happened but we are all aware that goose-bump marathons are a legitimate concerns.
Emily’s knees grew week.
“What’s all the yelling about?” He [Mac] asked.
God his body should be considered a controlled substance.
This happens soon after the second or fourth swoon. This book seems to be a treatise on his body and how AH-MAZING it is zzzzzz
Shrugging shoulders that belong to a dedicated body-builder, he stepped to the bed where his pants lay. His tapered back was as well-defined as the front. For a guy, he had flawless skin. No tats, no moles, and no tan lines. However, the scars told a tale of a life lived on the edge
Well at least he doesn’t have tats – a change. But again – there’s been little to no story/plot development but we’re spending pages dedicated to swooning over this loser’s body.

Yes she’s still swooning. I’m still waiting for plot and character development.
From behind, his gluteus maximus moved in a rhythm that soaked up all the moisture in her mouth. Her nails dug into the palms of her hands as she watched the damp towel drape perfectly across his rear, the hollow of his lower back and cling to the roundness of his butt cheeks.
I’m still waiting for, you know, a story or character development. But she’s still swooning over this guy and assessing how his gluteus moves in rhythm.
Emily prayed she didn’t have drool out of her mouth.
Rather than praying, checking with your hand would be far more effective. Ok we get it – he’s hot. Heroine fancies the pants off of him. Can we get to the story now? I could easily just look up hot men on the internet rather than spend time reading descriptions if I was that keen.
No matter how annoying Mac could be, he had the hottest body she’d ever seen.
I think by now WE HAVE GATHERED THAT?
With him wearing nothing but a towel, Emily grew more intoxicated than when she’d left the bar earlier after a couple of drinks. The hotel room spun like a carousel and she fought to keep her breathing normal.
Seriously? NO SERIOUSLY??!! How much longer are we to be subjected to her swooning, fighting to keep her breathing normal, drooling. It’s getting DULL.
He turned and his amazing blue eyes pierced her paper-thin armor. “So, what’s the problem?”
Emily stopped and tried to remember what they were talking about. She could only stare… and imagine… and wish for.. and… sigh.
She’s still swooning and behaving like a Victorian who requires smelling salts.
“He frowned and cocked his head. “You ok?”
Emily licked her lips and slowly swam out of her daze. She crossed her arms again. “I’m pissed you showed up in my room without asking. At least you could have warned me.”
Why doesn’t he get dressed? Looking at his chest and the bulge between his legs was harder than not watching his rear. The man was physically perfect.
She’s meant to be a lawyer and that’s how she articulates herself? The guy made an a$$hole unnecessary move and that’s her response. Plus more swooning and an essay on how perfect his body is. Seriously – I GET IT – he’s hot. Can we move on now? But no – it goes on in this vein for another few more pages – in fact the whole book.

Anyway this goes on for ages, with her insisting she’s a “big girl” (shame she’s a bimbo) and him acting all HE-MAN-THUMPS-CHEST variety of loser.
They also spend ages arguing over room service and him ordering her not to drink alcohol (mate – if that’s your way of being a skilled-operative I suggest you work on your approach, as being skilfully manipulative is a key feature).
They argue even more about him ordering her about and her refusing to budge. You’d think they’d have more serious concerns like the logistics for her to have him transported out of Russia. But meh – they just bicker and get all angst-y
Bu this has got to be the icing on the cake. Basically gung-ho HE-SAVES-LIVES-DONCTHA-KNOW jingoistic bellicose pr*at talk
“He’s a brave and noble man, Emily. All I’m asking you to do is get him out of there. If and I mean, if, anything should happen, I’ve got your back… Emily you live your perfectly normal life and never deal with terrorists, or human traffickers, or drug cartels. Mac and men like him are dedicated to making sure you never see the really really bad guys. That man risked his life for this country and your freedom so many times I can’t keep up with the paperwork.”
This sort of WITHOUT-HIM-YOU-WON’T-HAVE-ANY-FREEDOMS- cr*ap is not only patronising and tedious, it is also factually incorrect. The CIA is the biggest drug cartel out there. Just ask Gary Stephen Webb – ops – he “conveniently” committed suicide after he discovered what the CIA got up to in Latin America. Or check with Michael Hastings – ops he conveniently died before he made his expose. Or check with Chelsea Manning or Edward Snowden – real heros – ops one is stuck in prison (so much for freedoms) and the other is stuck in Russia.

This story was just okay for me. A lot of flaws and annoyances between these two characters. Insta lust for sure happening here. I think the hero Mac was a bit cheesy for being a bad a$$ Falcon Agent. And Emily was a bit too wishy washy at times that it became annoying. The chemistry and sex between these two was just okay and felt forced to me.
Okay story, very good narration by David Brenin (audible whispersync review)
The story line and plot was pretty predictable and the ending was sort of eye rolling cheesy. There were some very good action scenes though and a lot of dialogue, I like lots of dialogue.
I may read\listen to the next book in the series, sometimes books get better as they go along.
The narrator did a great job! I really liked him and he probably made the story better for me to be honest. The women sounded like women and he read with emotion, all the characters got their own distinct voice. David Brenin is a very good narrator.
This book was free on amazon and 1.99 for the audible so it was worth it. A credit, not so much.

This book was a bunch of cliches and kind of ridiculous. The hero is supposed to be a bad ass operative but he makes some really dumb decisions and spends more time ordering the heroine around or arguing with her. Then of course he is the obligatory she deserves better than me, I can't love kind of guy which I can't stand. She's supposed to be a really intelligent lawyer and yet most of her time is spent swooning over the hero. She also makes some really stupid decisions. Of course, it all works out because the villains are even dumber.

Excellent story..
In reading this book I realized something that’s in 99.9% of all romance, since that’s all I read. SLEEP! Or lack thereof. I don’t know why these book characters don’t just pass out from exhaustion. In this book Mac hasn’t slept in 3 days. Really? Anyway, Mac finally falls asleep and then wakes up a couple of hours later and makes mad passionate love to Emily. Then goes back to sleep and gets up still exhausted, and so does Emily. Every single book I’ve ever read the hero or heroine can’t sleep, from worry, from too much on their mind, from desire for someone, from being toooo tired, from too much of something. When an author wants to add words to a book all they have to do is put them to bed then fill up 10, 15, 20 pages of tossing and turning, and thoughts of whatever is bothering them. If you think I’m wrong then pay attention to the next few books you read, you’ll see.
Overall, I loved this book. Mac and Emily spent time falling in love and being angry with each other about it, and having sex. Mac did his best to try and concentrate on keeping Emily safe while Emily insisted that the bad guys wanted him dead, not her. He was a spy, after all, and between the RPG’s used on the plane in Moscow and the attempted kidnappings at Heathrow and in Dallas it was never ending excitement.
I liked the secondary characters, Brody, Frank, Tony and Brenda. I especially liked when Brenda punched Victoria in the face (that girl was soooo stupid.) I felt sorry for Emily having such a selfish dimwit for a sister.
AND I have to admit that I can’t remember a villain as bad or vicious or murderous as Ramon Marino in all the books I’ve read. He was just so horrible in the things he did. He was soooo sick! So diabolical! I couldn’t wait for him to be dead. I didn’t want him captured! I wanted him dead!!!
There was sexual tension and sex in the story and swearing. The F-bomb was used 33 times.
I was surprised at the end of the book. The end was just so abrupt I couldn’t believe it. Still a great story, though. With a HEA.
As to the narration: David Brenin did a wonderful job on the voices and he read decently BUT he has NO emotion whatsoever. Never a laugh or a whisper, or anything. That was pretty disappointing. But the men sounded sexy and the women sounded like women. With a little bit of work he could be an excellent narrator.

I’m afraid there wasn’t much to like here and I struggled with it.
For most of the book the heroine is screaming, shouting or “screeching” at the hero. Yes, that word is used several times, which made me think the author didn’t like her heroine very much either. The suspense plot wasn’t very well done either. Some parts were pretty far-fetched and for the rest it was pretty predictable: of course the bad guys are Russian and South American. The ‘baddest baddy’ is portrayed so over the top, he becomes a caricature.
Lastly, this book could really have done with some editing, as it was full of spelling and grammar mistakes.
All in all, this was so bad, I’m not inclined to try another book by this author.

OKAY. So, sure it was your cliche alpha male saves the princess but there was much more to it that made this book different from others. This is the type of book you could successfully transition into a film simply because it's very realistic. So you got this dude from a kick-ass agency, basically undercover good guys who aim to kill the bad guys rather than "arrest" them. At that point, I was already hooked. Then our little drama-free lawyer chick for that same agency, attempting to save his ass from death but instead adds herself into the whole mix. That's basically a rundown of it all, but oh wait, let's not forget the very very sexy scenes. Very well written, and hah, you should know now that you won't put the book down until it's finished, and you're stuck reading that little snippet of "Out of the Shadows." This was my type of book and I highly recommend you give it a try. Thank you, Geri Foster!

Typical romance. It was ok and the story line moved along at a good pace. What made me give it such a low rating was the ending. I'm tired of characters deciding that the other person is better off without them and being all heart broken while refusing to get back together. So dumb. Also, (no spoilers here) the last like 5 pages made me hardcore eye roll. ultra sickly sweet ending, unrealistic reactions from the main male character. I won't be reading the rest of the series.

Together they both engage in a ride for their lives and to be honest it was as good as any James Bond book or movie I saw.
Will they succeed and get away from the one that wants both of them dead, will they acknowledge their feelings, read the book its a great story and characters are lovable.

I received this e-book free from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing an honest review. Emily is an attorney and is currently in Russia and has closed mediation between two companies and is returning to her room after celebration drinks. What she finds is Mac an operative for Falcon Securities hiding in her room saying he needs a ride out of the country that his life depends on it. It just so happens she has a private jet scheduled for the morning to fly to London and she is also the contracted attorney for Falcon Securities.

Mac has a security company and works directly for the President of the US and the Department of Defense. Things heat up while he is in Russia and the President arranges for him to fly home with Emily on her private plane. She is a mediation attorney. His cover was blown and he puts Emily's life in danger by being associated with her. Their attraction is strong and their chemistry explosive. Fast paced and full of action. Lots of danger and suspense. Well written with strong, complex characters. I bought this book several years ago but forgot about it until recently.

This is the first book I've read by Geri Foster. I liked the characters and I'm interested in reading more of the series as well as more by this author. I think there's as much or more to describe the Falcon agency in the book description as in the book itself and overall this book didn't have quite the same feel as other clandestine security/defense/agency books, but I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others who like romantic suspense books.

I thought this was really good. It kept my interest throughout the whole book. It had great characters as Em was no simpering female, but sure got exposed to more than she ever thought about. Mac thought he just wasn't good enough to be with Em. The heart knows though and I was glad to see them get together after almost being killed way too much. Bits of it were silly and I could have skipped those, but a very good read with heat, drama and suspense.

Yay! A kick ass story with a lot of action, some smoking hot men, smart and sexy women ready to hold their own and a couple of bad guys - oh, and it starts in a foreign country.
You really cannot go wrong with this one. I loved it. Emily is caught in the middle of some unexpected trouble, and unknowingly is the cause of it which is a surprise to her and Mac, who suddenly turns up in her hotel room needing her help.

Not too bad a novel, good for a quick read on a quiet afternoon. Some of the storyline was predictable, some not - how could we know how Brenda would deal with Victoria? I liked Mac, flaws and all, but Emily was harder for me to connect to, she seemed rude and angry with no compassion or brains at first, though she did get better towards the back half of the book. I will be looking at more Falcon Securities books.

This is an author I will follow. Knew nothing about this book but gave it a try: SO glad I did. She throws out the line and (at first) slowly drew me in. Then the twists became more compelling and I just could not wait for the next page! If you like who done it books, with plenty of unexpected turns give this one a try. You will not be disappointed!

A lot happens in this book. It has got all the things that are predictable. Instalove, insta attraction, protective well looking hero and sassy heroin. But it also happens have some twists that are not expected. It has action, drama, romance, passion, adventure and emotions.
A well written story that I can only recommend.

This story is as real as it gets.
The hero isn't Superman.
The heroine is an ordinary lawyer.
Together they struggle towards their future.
It's a hea but it's not all sunshine and rainbows.
The family connection wasn't written as believable as the rest of the story but it's not a big deal.

outstanding. I recommend reading this story and the whole series.
It's action packed and suspenseful. It grabs you from the beginning and I didn't want it to end .

This is so terribly written I couldn't finish it. I only got to chapter six before throwing in the towel. It's poorly written, no transitions, no sensible logic, forced chemistry, badly written characters, etc. I've read other books by Foster and they weren't as terribly written as this one.

I am a little surprised I finished this one, I had such hope for it but, it continues along the same lines all the way to the end. ( I did not read any of the reviews before starting it, I landed on it flipping through the mug shots of the covers in the kindle one night ha ha) :)

Out of the Dark is a good story , set at a fast pace. Foster gives us story with interesting characters, with intrigue, suspense and love. From the beginning the author pulls you in and keeps you on your toes until the end. Happy Reading!!
