Spring break in Los Angeles with her BFFs has been Marisol's driving force to get through senior year. But when a falling out dents her plans, Marisol tucks the broken friendship into her back pocket with her cell phone and spring break bucket list.
Surf city Crescent Cove isn't exactly LA, but once she meets a tattooed brunette named Noah in the hotel elevator, Marisol really doesn't mind crossing off the items on her list without her friends - especially after Noah offers to help. Unaware that Noah fits the criteria for item #3 (meet a celebrity), Marisol is instantly thrown into the world of paparazzi, wild nights, and a spring break she'll never forget.
While her friends are making memories in LA, Marisol is making tabloid headlines. But after slipping a Spaceships Around Saturn secret to the media, Marisol has to fight hard to survive her fifteen minutes of fame and get back on Noah's good side before he crosses her off of his list for good.
I mostly enjoyed this, though it wasn't the romance I had hoped it would be. It ends up working mainly because I liked Marisol and enjoyed being with her for a bit. Noah was fun, too, though I feel there are emotional depths there that I'd like to explore still.
The book works because of the main couple, but there's enough dragging it down to keep it in the three-star range. I kept feeling like I was missing huge swathes of backstory even though I've read the first book. I don't know if it was just that time had erased what I knew or the introduction of a huge cast of surf hooligans I was supposed to find charming, but either way, it just didn't work. After finishing, I checked Godwin's list of books and find that the hooligans star in a different series of hers. I truly wish she hadn't mixed them. Godwin skimped on their development in this book—perhaps leaning on the prior books on the assumption readers would already be familiar with them? It made me feel alienated from the story through way too much of it and that kind of sucked.
Also, this isn't really a romance as much as it is the first half of a coming-of-age story. Which is also somewhat dissatisfying.
So with all that alienation and dissatisfaction, you have to know that my engagement with the characters had to be strong. Really, this is Godwin's strong suit. I just wish she hadn't chosen to mix her series and that the romance had been stronger...
A note about Steamy: There is no steamy. Well, maybe for an absolutist. There's sex, but Godwin pulls away very quickly. I think a bra came off before lights out. Call it a PG-13 without the gross jokes.
Anyway, I liked this book a way more than American Girl on Saturn (don't get me wrong, the first book was amazing) it's just that I loved the characters more.
Well, firstly I prefer Marisol and Noah better than Chloe and Milo. I mean, Chloe and Milo were perfect during lockdown but then they had this fight and Chloe is weird and Milo is so jealous and their relationship gets so annoying??? I don't even know.
Plus we get to know new characters, like Noah's brother also known as Nat, which let me tell you, was a perfect character.
I also really like Chloe sister, which I can't recall the name now, and I kind of think that Jules is an interesting character.
By the way, I really want to know something more about Benji though!!! I don't know why. I cannot wait to read the other books :)
Yikes. What happened to the happy, carefree SAS babies that i met from the first book? *smh* There's just too much tension between the characters and issues left unsolved. Oh well. The spring break list was cool, though. And Nat. And that mermaid tattoo. ;)
***I won an e-ARC of this novel from the author*** This review is comprised solely of my honest opinion
Cross Me Off Your List is a book I have been dying to read since it was announced and I can assure you that it does not disappoint even in the slightest.
I read CMOYL pretty much in one sitting, it was SO amazing to return to Saturn and revisit these amazing characters and meet new ones. Marisol is independent, determined and considerate of others. You get to learn a lot more about Noah, SAS's tatted brunette.
Another new character you get to meet is Nat, and he is a character you are sure to remember - sassy as hell. I LOVED seeing characters from AGOS crop up, I have to say that so far, my absolute favourite characters of the entire series are Chloe, Aralie, Jules and Benji.
The spring break bucket list is a fun storyline that keeps the characters constantly in motion. I loved learning more about the inner workings of Spaceships Around Saturn and this book gives us the greatest glimpse yet.
If you've read Nikki's Drenaline Surf series (which surely you should have :P ) then you're heart will fly at the amazing crossover and how quite a few events from this story tie into the storyline of the second Drenaline Surf book.
The only thing I didn't like was Noah's attitude towards Jules, but I'm pretty sure it'll end up being a part of a bigger picture, maybe?
A really fun, fast read, Cross Me Off Your List has adventure, music, romance and crazy antics you won't forget.
I am beyond excited to see what the future holds for the characters in this series, I advise one and all to buy this book the day it comes out and cross it off their to-read list! It's amazing!!!
I LOVE IT!!!! This book really made me smile. I love how carefree and independent Marisol is (which I wish I have) and of course I finally was able get to know more about my main love in SAS boys, Noah Winters and his strawberry milk. (*shouts from the back* please show me your mermaid tattoo!!). Also I admire and adore Noah's love and care for his brother.
As I read majority of this on kindle I think I highlighted too much lines/dialogue because they are worth remembering. i always love crossovers so I like the idea of meeting the hooligans in this book. I enjoyed it!!
Last but not the least, I LOVE THE FABULOUS, SASSY AND ADORABLE NAT WINTERS!!!!!!! And I quote Marisol "I'm shipping WINTERINI forever". ROAR!!!!!!!!
oh. my. saturn. I CANT WAIT! American Girl on Saturn is one of my favorite books and I'm sure this one won't disappoint. and Noah! *swoons* he was my favorite! what can I say, I have a thing for bad boys.
I have to say I really loved seeing all that Drenaline characters in this book. Noah was my favorite in AGOS, so I was really looking forward to this. And Marisol.. She's lovely. I had so much fun reading this book.
I really enjoyed this book! I was a fan of the American Girl on Saturn but I especially like the fact that this book contained many of the characters from the Drenaline Surf series.
First, I want to start by saying that this wasn't nearly as bad as Kids in Love- if you read my review for that, you'll know how much I actually hated it. That being said, I think the book showed excellent promise and there were some good parts, but several things about it were inconsistent and others seriously bothered me.
Things I did like about the book... -The premise is intriguing. I like the idea of Marisol setting out to accomplish a Spring Break bucket list, that's really cool. I liked that Noah helped her to accomplish most of the tasks (even if inadvertently) and it was a great way for them to build chemistry and get to know each other. The best part about the entire book was when she "got her wings."
- For the most part, I liked Marisol's character. She was feisty, confident and didn't give a rip that Noah was famous.
- Nat, a new character and Noah's flamboyant younger brother. Nat grew on me, despite the fact that people with that much energy and who are all fashion conscious just annoy me (no, it's not because he's gay, but because there was way too much "like, OMG" in his tone and anyone like that is just too much for me to put up with, no matter their sexual preferences). He obviously cared for Noah and grew into a friendship with Marisol. His obvious and over the top affection for Benji provided so much hilarity and awkwardness... but Nat was also fiercely protective of him when he found out about the dating/not dating for status, thing. Methinks we'll be seeing more Winterini, at least I hope!!
Things I did not like about the book... - Marisol is old enough that she should know it's a horrible idea to get into a car with a boy you JUST met and know nothing about. She meets Noah in an elevator, he invites her up to party (red flag #1) and then she actually takes him up on the invite and leaves with him in his car- which looks shady as hell, as she says so herself. Who gets into a car with a stranger just like that... seriously, this is how you get yourself murdered!
- Several times Marisol remarked how unexciting it was to be hanging out with Spaceships Around Saturn. You want to know why... because they're actually NORMAL PEOPLE!!! She was disappointed with how boring they were, but then when the paparazzi came into the picture, she hated it. You know what I hate... how people build up celebrities in their heads to god-like status and then they're disappointed when others find out they are just regular people. I never understood this- I feel bad for celebrities, I would hate to be one.
- Big Tony has got to be the WORST bodyguard EVER!!! What kind of bodyguard has the attitude "I don't want to do this right now, so you guys just go ahead" and leaves his charge all alone... I mean, really!! He should so be fired!
- Random racist shit... I mean, really. All of a sudden, Marison- who is half Latina herself- starts with the racist/stereotypical/judgmental nonsense; she looks to one of the Hooligans and judges him based on his ethnicity and looks, so we have a couple wasted pages where the other guy goes on a rant. Then Marisol is all, you're absolutely right, my bad and all is good. It was absolutely unnecessary and a waste of words and page time.
- Angelfish are a ridiculous idea for a first tattoo (although it did make sense for Noah's mural) and you should never get matching tattoos with someone who you're maybe/maybe not in a relationship with... talk about regret!
- The whole series has been so inconsistent, especially as far as the romances go. I barely remember the first one, but I know there was sneaking around and kisses. In the second one, there was no chemistry between the couple, one kiss and maybe one instance of hand holding. And in this book there's moody musicians, ass cheek tats, and no-strings sex?! Not only that, but Marisol has admitted to a FWB relationship previously and jumps into bed with Noah the first night they kiss. The whole tone of the series seemed to go zero to sixty super fast. Also, they kicked Benji out of Noah's room for privacy when Marisol had her very own room just one floor down...? Makes no sense... then again, Noah DID have a hot tub!
- The ending was awful... there really wasn't any kind of resolution or closure.
At First Sight The cover of this book is cute and fun. After reading the book I feel like it fits the vibe of the book really well.
Characters and Relationships If you have read any of Nikki's books, you know that she is wonderful at writing characters you fall in love with. It was fun to watch Marisol and Noah's relationship develop while they worked on her spring break bucket list. I loved the fact that Marisol had no idea who Noah was (a member of Spaceships Around Saturn) and thought that added a nice element to the story. It was great to revisit the characters that I fell in love with in American Girl on Saturn as well as some favorites from her Drenaline Surf series that are in this book. I love the cross over between the series characters and think it adds such a new dimension to the book if you have read both series.
Is This A Kissing Book? There is a bit of kissing going on in this one...but nothing I wouldn't let my teenagers read. There is a fade to black scene as well, but nothing that I found to be inappropriate for the target audience.
The Best Gems -Bucket List -Fashion -Strawberry Milk (This is Noah we are talking about here!) -Crescent Cove -Pier Jumping -Paparazzi -Nat -Mermaid Festival -Hanging with Aralie -Little Black Dress
The Sum Up Cross Me Off Your List was a wonderful installment in the Saturn Series. I loved every page of it. It moves very well and I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next. As I said before, Nikki is a master at creating new characters and reminding us why we love the ones we already know so much. I really liked Marisol (more than I thought I might at first) and felt like she was a lot of fun to be with throughout the whole book. I look forward to future installments in this series to see what is in store for Spaceships Around Saturn as Nikki takes us on this exciting ride.
I always love getting back into the Saturnite world especially after I've read a heavy book. Nikki Godwin's books always seem to be light and fun even when dealing with heavy issues. It's nice to just read a fun book sometimes, where there aren't face eating zombies tearing the world apart.
This is the perfect addition to the Saturn series, especially after reading Kids in Love. I missed all my Saturn guys and the Branson sisters. I was so happy to see more Aralie in this because that girl is my spirit animal. I can't wait for the book that focuses on her and Jules' relationship. I hated that Chole and Milo are having issues and I hate how jealous Milo is but I get why. I really, really, really liked Noah and Marisol though. Much more than Tate and Darby who really are just kids in love.
I loved how brave Marisol seemed to be especially with that yacht party. I can honestly say that is not something I would have done but that was one of my favorite scenes. I'm pretty sure I literally squealed when they finally kissed! I squealed like the little fangirl that I am.
Another thing that I liked was the link to the Drenaline series that is also by Nikki Godwin. I plan on buying those books as soon as I can because I want more from those characters like yesterday. I really don't think this book would have been the same without Emily and Miles.
I cannot recommend this book any higher than I do. I seriously love this series. There was some drama between the guys in this and some tension but that made a better read. Hopefully all fences can be mended by the end.
The best part of this book is only when Marisol met a tattooed brunette in elevator without knowing he is actually the famous Noah from Spaceships Around Saturn. The rest is... hmmm meh for me... I mean, I like the list that Marisol should accomplish but their meeting with Emily, Miles and the rest of the Hooligans are too much of coincident. Besides, too much conflicts, something that I didn't expect when the first time I read the first page.
Anyway, I enjoy the first book so much. When this one is not so much.
I was so excited to read the second installment of the Saturn series. When it finally came out, and I read it, it delivered pretty well. It was fun, cute and romantic. But I just liked American Girls on Saturn more than Cross Me Off Your List. I felt like this book was a little more deep and more serious, whereas AGOS was a sprinkled with a lot more mischief and chaos. But all in all, the book was still good. :)
ok so the thing is.... with is she doing with Milo and Chloe?!?! She made Chloe seem like a wimp and Milo seem like a jerk. Why would she throw away all the work she put into making them so great in the first book? It just doesn't make sense to me. I didn't read Tate's book, and honestly, I'm glad because she made his girlfriend seem awful too. That being said, I liked this book, just not how she trashed the people she made us love.
So this is the first m/f book I've read in about 4 or 5 years. I read it because the author stated reading this book, in particular, would help in understanding Before you go. I am glad I read it because I did get background on Nat and Benji. It kept my interest. I liked the story a lot. And the characters were really amazing and seemed real. I think the author has a wonderful gift for storytelling and I can't wait to read more with Nat and Benji.
What a sweet sugary fluffy read. I started reading this before the Corona outbreak. Now that things have completely slowed down and come to a stop, I have to say this was the perfect getaway book. Now I'm stuck between 2 and 3 stars because I cannot honestly tell you this book was properly edited.
OMGOMGOMG I LOVE THE CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK AHHH. Storywise, it was nice. I found it kind of lacking though, particularly because it was only told in Marisol's POV when so much more was happening that she was not that involved in, but the rest of the characters from the previous novel were.
Read the 1st book in this series and LOVED it, the novella was lacking so but so many novellas are. I couldn't even get half way through this one. Marisol was annoying, and the editing was horrid. I think I'm done with this series. Which sucks because it had such a promising start.
