I know when I read Gibson's books I am getting a light-hearted, quick read with quirky characters, fun antics, and lots of laughs. For me, this book just didn't deliver.
Lily worked hard to ditch the title "Crazy Lily" which she earned back in high school. That title followed her in her married years until she finally came to the realization that she was better off without the jerk husband that left her penniless with a 2 year old to take care of. She worked hard to build up to owning her own salon/spa and becoming "respectable".
On her way home from the salon one night, she gets pulled over by a good-looking deputy who seems to know a lot about her. He's young, but boy, is he "hot". Of course, it turns out that the deputy is her new next door neighbor and by the 4th chapter and about that many days as well, they are in love. Very predictable, right? I have to say that the steamy sex scenes were almost too much, but that's because for me, there was no other substance to the plot.
I missed the laughs and the funny scrapes that Gibson's southern gals usually get into and I missed the subtle dance that leads up to "boy gets girl". I just felt that the story was written in a hurry and that prevented any depth of plot or creativity in the storyline. Sigh.
