Lazarus Walker, charismatic former frontman of the hard-rocking heavy metal band, Black Ryders, wants nothing more than to be left alone. Having traded fame for solitude, he spends his days tending the gardens at his isolated English manor, the link to his former life of debauchery all but severed. Or so he thought.
When a sexy young fan shows up at his doorstep, Lazarus discovers that walking away might be easy, but leaving no trace to follow is hard. What begins as the mild annoyance of an unwelcome guest, quickly spirals into a nightmare, because Kitty Van Winkle is no groupie, but a vengeful psychotic hell-bent on destroying Lazarus and unearthing his darkest secrets at any cost.
Everyone, it seems, still wants a piece of Lazarus Walker.
I was really impressed by this story. I even hesitate to call it a book - it was so short. But it packs a huge punch for its size. I picked it up for free on a lark, and by the time I got around to reading it I couldn't remember what it was about... I was actually thinking it was a ghost story and kept waiting for the bumps in the night and so forth. What I got completely surprised me.
Without going in to too much detail, I'll just note that if you shy away from gore you will probably have issues with this one. It's not over the top gory - but just enough to make you squirm. It's horrific, but in an almost detached way. The best part about this story was that every time I thought I had it all figured out, it would shock me again. And again. And again...
Long story short (no pun intended) - a really great read.
This was a fun story. "Bone Orchard" is a thriller about a crazed fan showing up at the English manor of a washed up rock star. It is a quick and entertaining read (only 160 pages according to my Kindle).
The language is flowery, but endearingly so. The story based off of a screenplay, and though it would make a decent B horror movie, the turns of phrase are really what made me like the book, so a lot would be lost on the screen. I also found myself switching allegiances between characters multiple times in the short story, which made it more fun.
I got the book as a freebie on Amazon, and the e-book had a lot of the standard editing problems I expect from a free book, but it wasn't terribly distracting.
I would definitely recommend "Bone Orchard" at a low price point if you're looking for something quick and fun.
A friend got this on a free Goodreads giveaway. (I never win those). I was given this to read. She thought I might like it.But would not tell me anything about it.Well, I am not really going to say anything about it either. All I can say, its a great short read. Twisted. It goes in directions that you just don't see coming. To say anymore will just ruin the story. If you come along this books path, pick it up. You won't be disappointed.
Lot's of twists and turns in this one. Boy did I get a couple surprises too! It definitely kept me guessing on who the "murderer" was. A bit far fetched in realistic terms. But psychosis is that way isn't it? ;) It was a fun quick read for me. Almost read it all in one sitting. I usually don't have that kind of time but it kept me guessing and riveted enough to keep turning the pages.
The type of women Lazarus liked were dark, mysterious, and damaged. And for his tastes he gets a little BSM with ropes and other such implements of distress. Bone Orchard is creepy, dark, and mysterious. A perfect book for someone who is damaged, or who likes damage. Being a little of all, I loved this book. The title is wonderful. It is quite evocative as is much of the writing in Bone Orchard.
Gripping, grisly story with more twists and turns than a maze. I would have given more stars had it not been for the jarring mistakes the editor missed, one of which being the priceless "A rock flew threw the air...".
Short read. I liked it. Most stories like this are predictable, but this one kept me guessing at every turn. Sometimes, you have to call a spade a spade. But sometimes that spade will surprise you. :)
The first three and a half chapters are details about the main character and where he lives, and I ALMOST quit reading it. It gets better, and there is a few twists to the story, so I'm not sure if I wasted my time or not. I know I was glad when it was over!
This is a story of a stalker of a rock star, but she isn't just looking for an autograph! But there are a couple of plot twists that I didn't see coming.
I was not expecting this to be a short story but I enjoyed it. I wanted more back story and a bit more explanation but it was well written and kept my interest the whole time.
I was really bored with it until about Chapter 13. I mean, the twist was good, but it was overall pretty predictable. Which was a shame because it had some really nice, evocative imagery.
