Everyone needs help occasionally - even supers with amazing powers - and Jim (aka Kid Sensation) is no exception. Having previously received aid from a young psychic named Rudi, Jim feels obligated to return to the favor and rescue her from the federal facility where she’s being held.
But breaking into a top-secret, heavily-fortified government installation is never walk in the park, especially when said installation has top-of-the-line security systems, trigger-happy guards, and its own team of formidable supers. It will take a bold and audacious plan to get Jim - and the friends who volunteer to help him - inside.
Unfortunately, breaking in is only half the problem (and the easy half, at that); they also have to break back out…
Extraction by Kevin Hardman and narrated by Mikael Naramore is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This is a short book but a necessary one because Kid Sensation made a promise to help rescue a 10 year old psychic and her brother from evil supers. This is that story. Very creative and action packed as all his wonderful Kid Sensation books are! Love all the well developed characters and world settings in these books! Amazing!
This novella was a short story set in Kevin Hardman's Kid Sensation superhero series. The action took place between the events of the second and the third instalment of the series and was basically a short adventure that tied up a loose plot thread from the second book.
The tale was pretty short (just over an hour in audio) and was the story of how Kid Sensation, along with Smokescreen and Electra, rescued Rudy and her brother from Mr Grey's shifty government organisation. It was nice to see Jim following through on his promise to rescue Rudy. To do so he and his friends had to break into a secret government facility. They had to keep this a secret from the actual superheroes since it was all highly illegal!
It was an enjoyable enough short story. We learned a bit more about Smokey and his powers and actually got to see Jim working as part of a team as they sought to infiltrate the facility where Rudy was being held. The team even had to deal with the superpowered guards!
This was nothing special but it was a fun adventure that did tie up a loose plot thread from the second book.
Rating: 3 stars.
Audio Note: As always Mikael Naramore did a good job with the audio. He is good with the voices and manages to bring the story to life with his performance.
Fun short story with some cool revelations and additions to the world.
--------
This story was great fun. Fast, clever, and even had a cool surprise at the end. If it was longer I'd give it 5 stars. I knew it was short, not feeling frustrated by that. It's just that shorter isn't as fun as a full novel. Still, it's a great addition to the series.
Disclaimer. I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the author, in exchange for an unbiased review.
What I liked about the book - This was a quick read, which I finished in one session and loved it. This works as a stop-gap entertainer between two larger full-scale novels. There's lot of backstory about the kid n other characters from the main story. I now know the world a whole lot more.
What I disliked about the book - Not a "dislike" from my end, but warning for others that this is not a standalone novella. If you haven't read prior books of this series, read them first.
Narration - Mikael Naramore did a good job of narrating this short book. No complaints.
Extraction is a terrific superhero adventure that proves you can have a great standalone story without needing it to be super long. The audio book, which is just over an hour long, is truly super with a good narrator, an exciting plot, and interesting characters. This fits into the Kid Sensation series, so if you are reading or listening to the other books, you'll enjoy it more, but it works fine as a standalone. Appropriate and fun for YA and adult listers- this is perfect for a short road trip.
Given this is my first introduction this series, I really enjoyed it! Short, but I thought it was very well-written and narrated, and now I want to go back and listen to/read the others in the series! A lot of fast-paced fun and angst, and it was a delight getting to know the characters and get a glimpse into this world. I just may be hooked! :) I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, and found it very entertaining. Kid Sensation promised to help Rudi and her brother escape from the federal building they're being held at. As in Kid fashion, the rescue doesn't goes planned. Electra and Smokey are not suppose be to helping, and there's more security then Kid expected. It's a fun listen and just long enough for a short compute.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I have listened to all of the books that are available on audio, it doesn't disappoint, for me it was a great addition to this series, and I think that the whole series would be enjoyable for anybody that enjoys superhero stories.
Narration wise I thought that it was done just as well as all the rest of the audiobooks that have been done.
More of a vignette or adventure than a full story, this is an interesting introduction to the universe it's set in. Interestingly written but it does leave you with questions and wanting more ... which is exactly the point when you're writing a series I guess. Short and sweet with non-stop action.
This is a promise kept, helping the young seer, Rudi, and her brother to escape from captivity, after their aid to Jim (Kid Sensation) in the previous episodes. It takes Jim and his two offsiders, plus the help of Rudi and a muscle bound Supa, who turns out to be a friend and not a foe, as one would think. As usual, the narrator adds enhancement to already dramatic tale.
My third short read from author Kevin Hardman was amazing! Well-written super-hero sci-fic/suspense, with well-developed characters. Set between Mutation (Book #2) & Infiltration (Book #3). I’ll be reading more in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This novella takes place after Mutation and lays the ground work for Jim’s relationship with Megaton and Rudy. It is a quick read/listen. And it is very fast paced.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review
The story was short and to the point of events unfinished from the second novel in the series didn’t really didn’t add any think big but a surprise at the end that gets explained in the third novel.
Reading the series on kids sensation it never prompted me to read this particular book but it alluded to the actions in one of the other books so when I hit the end and I saw this as an option that was really fun to get this story out of it.
Just save it for a full book please - these glorified scenes just don't do it for me. Will definitely check the amount of content before purchasing again from this author
Novella about rescuing Rudi. If she factors into future books I'm curious why this is a novella rather than including this where it flows with the story it started in (Book 2).
A short story set between books 2 and 3. I was so happy to find out what happened to Rudy and her brother, it was kind of glossed over in the main book.
Read this book only after you read book two, Mutation. This short story contains spoilers for book two including who lives and who dies.
Read this story before book three Infiltration. It contains information vital to series continuity. Well okay it isn't really anything that isn't actually summerized in book three, but reading it first would be more fun. take it from someone who didn't read this before book three.
Extraction is the story of Kid Sensation and company rescuing superpowered children from a government facility. it's fast, fun, and satisfying. in future I will pay more attention to series order so that I can enjoy the series flow better.
The Narrator, Mikael Naramore, does a great job as he has done on the previous series titles.
*I received a copy of this story for the purpose of review. my opinions are honest and my own.*
This was a quick little novella that tied up a loose thread from book #2 and might be foreshadowing what we can see in the next couple of books.
This quick tale seems to effectively gather all the elements of the series and include everything that makes it mediocre at the same time. We see all the various super powers and how they match up. We are shown once again how the various characters constantly seem to overcome obstacles that they create for themselves and also that our leads seem to be trying to kill themselves.
I like the premise of the series but I don't fell the author captures the battle scenes and explores his characters enough to make this better than an average time waster.
This short story fulfills a promise that Jim, aka Kid Sensation, made to Rudi in the last book: Mutation. It was a loose end, definitely something that I'd wondered about but figured that Kevin Hardman was up to something... Well this is that something, and believe it or not you could probably read it as a stand-alone, but why would you want to do that, when following the greater story-arc, is many times as much fun as each story, individually In addition to the really fun story, was the wonderful narration by Mikael Naramore. He always seems to Hit It, square on the head, and Extraction is no different!
Full disclosure: I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Extraction is an excellent little novella set in the Kid Sensation universe, featuring the main hero of the series. I enjoyed this book and the narrator did an excellent job adding to the experience.
It gives us a nice short story to tide us over between books 2 and 3, features some of our favorite characters - Jim, Electra, and Smokie. It is a good read, even if you read it after having read book 3.
Naramore is a great narrator and Hardman knows how to tell a great kids story.
A short novella, this story was required to wrap up a loose end from book 2 and set up some different scenarios for the next in the series. The friendships involved here are adult considering the people involved are constantly in harms-way, but still retain a teenage feel that is endearing and at times silly, as such would be. That Jim will win in the end is inevitable, but it's the story of that journey that is the point and this is a short example of how fun that is.
This was sort of a short book, 52 pages, but it was still awesome. Rudi was introduced in one of the other books and she can tell the future. She is being held by the "Bad Guys". Kid Sensation has to go get her because she saved him before from a living star. Not much happened, just him rescuing her. I think the author didn't want to make a whole entire book, so he just did a short story because he HAD to make one about Rudi. What would be the point in introducing her if nothing happened?
