Lost in Flight: Part 2

Rate this book
A love so strong it might destroy them.

Forced back to her hometown, Christina Martin is confronted by a past she's spent the last eight years carefully avoiding. Matters are complicated when she finds her ex husband, Riley, also in residence.

When Christina gave up on love and music for a law career, Riley built a life without her. His policy of pretending she doesn't exist collapses when she busts in on him in the middle of the night.

The one night stand wasn’t meant to happen. They both know it’s over, but the head and heart want different things.

Moving from the past to the present, Lost in Flight explores the relationship of a love so strong, it might destroy them.

Recommended for readers over the age of eighteen, Lost in Flight is Book Two in The Complicated Love Series.

"Lost In Flight was a bit of a roller coaster for me. It had me giggling, shaking my fist, fanning myself, and looking around for onion chopping ninjas." M.H. Sheedy

" love the passion these characters have. Whether plotting revenge against the other, or plotting to get back together, there is always passion. Add the quirky wit, crazy friends and family, and personal demons, and you have a recipe for a fantastic story. And the musical references make me smile." Anna Smith

"I loved the second book even more than the first.. I have fallen love with the charcters that Neeny Boucher has developed , even gross and perverted Mason." Carmen Goodman

"Lots of snark and double the dose of sarcasm but you feel part of the scene. These characters are strong and leap off the page! Great dialogue and interesting backstory." Booklover

"I love finding a new great writer. This book was hard to put down, but at the same time I didn't want it to end. Great characters and great story. True love is never easy and sometimes the road is full of challenges." OneMorePage

If I didn't know it, I wouldn't have said this was a debut novel. Neeny Boucher hit this one out of the park.

Love. It's complicated. If you've ever been in love you know this. When it's good, it's good and when it's bad…well…

In This story we have Christina (aka Dina) and Riley (Nicholas Riley). They met in high school, loved hard and married young. Growing up in a small town, Christina always wanted more. Riley however he's ok with things. He's happy with life as is. And before you know it, they've gone their separate ways.
Unfortunate circumstances bring Christina back to town and right back into Riley's path. Can a love that strong really be over? Can she truly fight how she always felt for him?
"I have an iron vagina. Yes, an iron vagina and I will no longer be a slave to my own stupidity."
There's a lot of great character development in the story as well. Especially since Neeny did a phenomenal job meshing the past with the present. You have Kristina's 2 best friends Mandy & Bonnie who she meets up with right away. These three seem like so much fun and when they are with each other you feel like you are with your own friends. Or at least I did.
"I had more orgasms alone than when he was in my bed. It got so bad that when we were in bed I almost called out my own name."
I mean who doesn't have conversations like that? Girl talk!
Throughout the book we see a lot of back and forth with Kristina and Riley and you can see the depth of love Riley has for her. They are just both 2 very stubborn people.
"I've always loved her. I always will and vice versa, but it makes no difference. We're broken and i don't think we can be fixed."
And so I leave it at that. Can it be fixed? If a love is true, is it worth the fight?
I'd like to highlight some favorites:
1. Tongue ring episode. I was in tears.
2. Music references - phenomenal.
3. Being that the past was in a different decade, I felt the author nailed the specifics. Style, music, attitudes, etc.
The relationship banter between Riley & Christina. It was real. Real talk, no fake stuff.
Kudos Neeny. I'm anxious for book 2!

Christina Martin returns to her hated hometown with her family under the worst of circumstances where she runs into the love of her life aka ex-husband Nicholas Riley.

Riley toys with Christina, but she also brings out all his mixed emotions, same as her. Some regret, anger, jealousy, and the list goes on for these two.

All it takes is one fateful night, where these two collide, opening a door both thought slammed shut and locked forever.

From the past to the present, Christina and Riley show that true love doesn’t always run smoothly, it might not conquer all and most importantly, love is complicated.

Lost in Flight is a debut novel by Neeny Boucher. The main thing holding me back from giving it a 5 star review was the flow of the story in several parts was missing. I’d have to stop and question what just happened or go back and read a part over to figure out the transition or gaps. It took me awhile to fully get into the story and the writing style but once I did I found it very difficult to put down.

The Author however, did a wonderful job with the love story of Dina and Riley and gave a full understanding of their history and why they were with each other. At times, things going on in their lives reminded me of situations from my family and me. It is very rare that a book can have me relating to it when it comes to my family that really aren’t a part of my life.

Dina and Riley had obstacles and issues that they needed to work on and instead of trying to fix things, they hurt each other and those around them. Tragedy strikes and years later they are back in the same town where things explode.

I am looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what is going to become of Dina and Riley as they do have that once in a lifetime love.

3.5 Intense, Destined, Did I say Intense Stars * * * 1/2

There are people who we are destined to be with... the magnetic draw, the calling or whatever other intangible happens and these people cannot leave each other alone. Sometimes it can be for a moment, a young first love or in this book, a lifetime calling. Neeny Boucher gives us characters who are so connected yet have such crossed, missed opportunities to make things good for each other, it can be quite a journey to experience.

We meet the Martin family... they are musically talented, loving and somewhat dysfunctional in their quirkiness. They live in a small town not far from Seattle, live all the cultural experiences of the grunge period. The Dad, son Johnny, Christina and baby sister Gabby would do professional gigs. All were talented. As the kids got older, Johnny had a garage band and Christina would watch and wait for her opportunity to one day join it. Eventually, it happened and it became her turning point in her life at 16. She had to audition to qualify and the day she does...Riley,18, one of the band members watches her sing.... and promptly falls in love with her.

They are hit by it... and their journey starts... he fights it but cannot leave her be... he sent her pictures he had drawn with words which ripped her heart open with their beauty.... he threw rocks at her window after trying and trying to leave her be... and tells her she is his... from this point forward. They have that teenage passion.... hot, sweet, all of it... and then they both marry the day after she turns 18.

Parents on both sides are not happy. The only help given is a farmhouse so they have a roof over their head. She works; he is in the band with Johnny and it is taking off. Mistakes are made by both of them... he leaves her at home when the band goes on the road... she wants more than just a small town and is scared that this is all there is going to be.

Her mother had goals for her children, with extra pressure on Christina to "make " something of herself and go to college... and this would be a constant conversation. What makes this even more serious then just a push from a parent is when her mother dies from Cancer. This becomes the catalyst with critical turning points for this couple.

There is so much covered in this book about relationships between married people, fathers with sons and daughters...women as friends, women as young wives and women lost not knowing their place in the world and their own families.

It is told artfully with past and present entries, much humor, detail and dialogue. There are multiple POV's without redundancy. I did fell the pace slow in the first part of the book and I really was not loving either of the main characters... they both had some serious anger management issues... and were combustible in both their sexuality together and with their cutting remarks... if they weren't touching or fucking... it was very difficult for them to be civil with each other. It was understandable in this story, however, it did sometimes wear on me.

The second half of the story moved quicker and I was very intrigued with the secondary characters which had been fleshed out. There are possible couples brewing and they have very strong personalities .... I would be interested.

If you are open to a couple which is destined to be together, have chemistry and love for each other which is tested and comes through in the end... then this will not disappoint. There is an ending which is sort of positive...yet is left open for more....

This one had a really strange narrative style, written in third person but then skipped from character to character, often several times per page. To make matters worse there were also lots of flashbacks to different points in history ranging from the previous day to 10 years ago that only added to my general confusion. It made it hard for me to feel a connection to the characters.
At the start Riley and Dina clearly hate one another and while we learn about their history together gradually through the book, it was a long time before I felt any chemistry between them or cared whether they got together or not.
This story's saving grace was the witty banter and comedy scenes that were really very funny. The more intense, emotional scenes - including I'm afraid, the sex scenes - did nothing for me.
There's a resolution of sorts at the end but I'm not invested enough in the characters to read any more.

I haven’t laughed this hard while reading a book is a very, very long time and I have already started using the term Iron Vagina in daily conversations. I have also told my husband that I will no longer be a slave to my own stupidity. Thos are just some of the self help tidbits you will find in Lost in Flight.
Now on to my review. Lost in Flight is Neeny Boucher’s first installment in the Complicated Love Series, and I honestly can’t think of a better title for the first book. Christina Martin and Nicholas Riley, mostly known as Riley throughout the book, share a love hate relationship that is both comical and frustrating. They both egg each other on, leaving the reader laughing during such discussions of Riley’s stupid/awesome penis in front of Christina’s neighbor Mrs. Gustafson. And while I had a very good laugh, you come to realize how badly Christina and Riley both need and want each other.
They are drawn to each other, but are don’t know how to reconcile their past. They have both hurt each other and continue to do so, all the while leaving their friends to pick up the broken pieces of their destructive path.
Christina’s girlfriends Mandy and Bonnie are fantastic. Their bond is obviously strong and the antics they get into are hilarious. I fell in love with each character and enjoyed the love and dislike for one another they shared. Although it seemed impossible for Christina and Riley to find the peace they both needed, I found myself rooting for them, hoping for the impossible.
I cannot wait to read the second book of the series and revisit with some of my favorite characters.

I was recommended this book and so glad I read it. Neeny takes you on a journey of love life and the pursuit of happiness. This is not a short tale but an epic journey of Dina and Riley's unstoppable love. The emotions evoked in this book are amazing. I'm still hungover and can't wait to start the second book.

Title: Lost in Flight
Author: Neeny Boucher
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Book #1 in the Complicated Love series

★ ☆ ★ 4.5 BUCKING STARS! ★ ☆ ★

Lost in Flight is the debut novel from Neeny Boucher, it gets a 4.5 bucking star rating from me because she honestly knocked it out of the park with this kick ass book! It is the first book in the Complicated Love series and I don’t think there could be a more fitting name for this series because holy hell this love story really was complicated!

Lost in Flight introduces us to Christina Martin (Dina) and Nicholas Riley (Riley), two high school sweethearts who are head over heels in love with one another. From the get go everything with them is fast paced, they didn’t wait for pretty much anything, marriage being one of those things. They married young and settled down in their small town together, happy and content. Well, happy and content is taking things a little too far because while Riley is pretty chilled about where he lives and where he is at in his life, Dina is not. She doesn’t like living in the town she grew up in and when tragedy strikes, it gives her the push she needs to get out of town but unfortunately also away from Riley and their marriage.

When Dina left town she left behind a lot of gossip and unanswered questions so when yet another tragedy brings her back into town years later, she has to face them head on but she doesn’t really know if she is up for the challenge. Challenges get put to her whether she likes them or not, a major one being her ex husband… no, her current husband because Riley refuses a divorce. LOL!

After waking up in Riley’s bed with no recollection of how she got there, it’s starts off the laugh out loud journey that honestly rocked my socks off! The following quote between a separated husband and wife who despise each other is only a taste of why.

“Look. Okay- I don’t know what happened last night. It’s all really weird and um, unusual because, well, I just don’t like you like that anymore.”

“Really? Cause last night- when I was buried in you to the hilt and you were screaming my name, you seemed to like me plenty.”

That quickly turned into an argument which left Dina doing the walk of shame home through town saying things to herself like..

“I have an iron vagina. Yes, an iron vagina and I will no longer be a slave to my own stupidity.”

THEN when Riley shows up at her house not long after and they have more sex and another argument which ends up in the front garden with Riley shouting things like…

“THANKS, HONEY. I’LL BE BACK LATER. LEAVE A LIGHT ON FOR ME. K? MUWAH. MISSSS YOU.”

I’m laughing while writing things because it was just that funny of a scene and book. There are some serious matters in the book and the characters love is no joke in the slightest but the humour made everything click together perfectly.

For the first few chapters of the book we are tossed between past and present POV’s from the characters to show us how they ended up were they are currently are at in their relationship and it was explained very well. I knew what was happening and wasn’t confused or mislead at any point while reading.

Character wise let me just say that Riley is bloody brilliant, I adored him and his ability to make me laugh my arse of. Bonnie and Mandy, Dina’s two best friends, share that trait with Riley because their personalities were awesome! Dina’s strength to deal with the crap life threw at her was admirable as well, she is on the list of favourite female characters because of it. I really did love everyone in this book, even the bad lad Mason. I know he is an arsehole and the one I’m suppose to hate but I just couldn’t bring myself to dislike him, every scene he was in made me smile or laugh so sorry but not hating him now or ever! ;)

I very rarely get to read a story were the characters wholeheartedly love each other but don’t like each other at the same time and that was we got in Lost in Flight. It was brilliant and interesting to read if love is really all it takes to make a relationship work.

This book it going on my must read list because I truly do love it and cannot wait for the next book in the series. I’m so excited for it!! :)

Some of my favourite quotes from the book..

“If she was pregnant; he wanted that baby even if it came out of the vagina from hell.” – Riley

“I have an iron vagina. Yes, an iron vagina and I will no longer be a slave to my own stupidity.” – Dina

“I doubt anyone knows all of it – not even me and Riley. He has his perspective. I have mine. We were young, dumb and…”

“Full of cum?”

“I wasn’t going to say that Gabby.” – Dina and Gabby

The characters in this book were great!!! I laughed out loud so many times and wanted to cry at other times. This book had a little bit of everything that readers crave.. Bad Boys, Crazy Girls, Hot Rockers and the wench you really would love to hit!

This is the First book in The complicated Love Series.. and YES.. This love story is truly Complicated!!

Christina Martin.. a.k.a. “Dina” was the high school grunge queen who caused ruckus growing up in a small talkative town, marrying her high school love Nickolas Riley a.k.a “Riley”. Unfortunately things don’t always work out as planned and Dina leaves town along with a trail of gossip and rumors behind only to return years later due to a tragedy.

Christina- The now divorced and successful lawyer finds herself in a very exposed and complicated position when she wakes up in Riley’s bed naked. She doesn’t even know how she got there.

“Look. Okay- I don’t know what happened last night. It’s all really weird and um, unusual because, well, I just don’t like you like that anymore”

Riley who couldn’t maintain his laughter due to his current ex-wife’s behavior just continued to taunt her.

“Really? Cause last night- when I was buried in you to the hilt and you were screaming my name, you seemed to like me plenty.”

And that’s where the reunion of a complicated love hate relationship begins..

The two despise each other. They avoid each other and every time their paths collide things get harder and harder. The deep down love they have for each other that are hidden beneath the pain from their tragic past. This story goes back and forth to the past of the love that they shared and the fights and troubles they had to the present tense.

You get both points of view from Christina and Riley. With paths that are intertwined and not always able to avoid each other these two really stir it up. The fights they get into and the things that are said range between hysterical and damaging. There were so many things that were left unsaid between these two and when the issues of their past are brought into the present and everything is out in the open, Christina and rRley must decide if they deserve to give one another a second chance.

I’m not one for spoilers so I couldn’t really chose quotes that I really loved without fear that it would give away great parts of the book. It’s one of those books that you just NEED to read. It was really good and the things these two said and did to each other both past and present either had me laughing my butt off or really feeling bad for one or the other. The supporting characters in the story were great and helped make the plots deeper. Although you get a bit of and HEA there is still a bit of a cliff hanger as to what is to come. I look forward to reading the 2nd book and can’t wait to see what happens with the crazy duo!!

Lost In Flight is the debut novel by Neeny Boucher. This is the story of Christina and Riley. Christina is a lawyer in DC…thousands of miles from her home. She decided to follow her dream of becoming a successful lawyer and in the process, left her old life behind. One day, she receives a devastating call from her brother that brings her home to Washington, a place she has tried for many years to avoid.

Riley has attempted in many ways as well to run away from the past and its memories. The past hits them both head-on after a night of drinks, reminiscing and fun. Christina finds herself in a little predicament when she wakes up in Riley’s bed. Did I mention Riley is her EX-HUSBAND???!!! Exactly! Neeny does a wonderful job of taking the story from present to past and back in order to tell their story. I like how she alternates between the characters and their point of views.

In the beginning, I had so many questions. I thought Christina was self centered and left Riley in their small town to pursue her career without a second glance. I thought Riley was hardheaded and unwilling to support the women he loves. Then, as the story was unveiled, I realized my assumption, on both accounts, was wrong. Christina and Riley are both hardheaded and stubborn. They did not communicate with each other, but instead, waited for the other to fold and come running back. They try to stay away from each other at all costs, but when they do come together, they are each other’s kryptonite. They have so much passion for each other. Whether it is making love or fighting, they give it their all.

I love this story. I love these characters. I love the secondary characters introduced throughout the book. I love the quirky undertones and descriptions throughout. I laughed…a lot…and even cried as their past events began to unfold. There were so many times I thought “If only they had done this differently”. In the end, they both had and, in many ways, still have a lot of growing up to do. This is a story of first loves that may or may not get a second chance at love. You will have to read this wonderful novel to find out.

4.5 Stars. I was gifted an ARC of Lost in Flight by author, Neeny Boucher. Christina "Dina" Martin and Nicholas "Riley" Riley fell in love and married young, but were unable to overcome differences in what each wanted out of life. The outcome of their fallout is two people who are very much in love, but divorce because they are unable to get along and resolve their differences. Lost in Flight may sound like a tragic story, but Neeny Boucher fills this story with humor and laughable antics which take place while these two try to avoid each other. Dina is a flighty, stubborn individual who gets caught up in adventures in Shanwick with her two best friends, Bonnie and Mandy. When the three of them get together, anything goes! On top of that, throw in the fact that Riley secretly remains very much a part of Dina's family dynamic, resulting in a novel full of hilarious misadventures! I really enjoyed this debut novel written by Neeny Boucher. Make sure to add Lost in Flight to your "to read" list to see what will become of Dina and Riley!

First off Let me just say . Awesome read Neeny Boucher!
This book has it all. Lots of
Laughter, Love, and heartache.

This is a very tragic and complicated love story. This story will flashback of their life starting from the beginning of their relationship and then to the present.

It begins with Christina waking up in bed with her X- husband. The only man she has ever loved.

These two are self destructive.
Christina decides she has got to get out of the small town of Shanwick. She feels she is drowning there.
Riley doesn't understand nor does he want to leave. So trying to get him to see things her way she decides to serve him divorce papers hoping he will change his mind. He no only refuses to leave, but refuses to give her a divorce. Instead he decides to take off for a while and let her cool down.
But he doesn't return for 3 years.

I found this story hard to put down. Even with all the heartache, and drama you will find your laughing.

I absolutely loved this book. It's witty, realistic, and laugh-out-loud funny.
I just love the relationship that Christina has with her two best friends; it reminds me a lot of my friends and me. "They shouldn't be allowed out together on tequila and released into the general population. You've got a full-witches-coven. Dangerous."

I would highly recommend this book. I cannot wait for book 2 in the series; I need more!!

So I’ve been brave and plunged into the next story in The Complicated Love Series. In this book, Dina and Riley are both grown-up, fast forwarded a few years from Back of Beyond and we find that they are divorced and living completely separate lives.

Dina is now a flourishing lawyer in D.C. While Riley is a successful businessman doing whatever the heck he is doing across the country in Seattle. The distance alone should be enough to keep them apart right? Or they tried to anyway. BUT there’s still something keeping them within each other’s reach: The Martins.

In Lost in Flight, Dina’s little sister Gabby isn’t so little anymore and she got hurt during an environmental protest. Dina had to fly back home to look after her family and met Riley whose life was still very much intertwined with Johnny’s. After all the years of being apart, they could still bring out the worst and the best from one another.

As well as ignite the passion between them which never dimmed...at all...despite all the troubles and tribulations they went through.

This book was such a pleasure to read. It made me laugh and cringe and nervous and laugh again all throughout. But most of all it made me feel so gooey inside. Riley and Dina’s love for one another is so tangible you can feel it reaching out to you from the pages. I have also never enjoyed reading about arguments so much.

Their love affair reminded me of the movie The Marrying Man. Sorry, had to get that in being a movie buff like me. No, Dina and Riley didn’t get married over and over again to each other but it’s apparent that their love will win stand almost any calamity thrown at it.

I also read about several other characters from Back of Beyond and loved having a follow through story from high school days. Two new characters entered the scene and endeared themselves to me: Andy and Jed. And don’t get me started on THE CAT.

I found Neeny Boucher’s honest way of telling a tale quite refreshing. She called vagina vagina and penis as penis without any beeps or oops or anything for the faint hearted. Yet she saved the flowery words in the things that mattered and made me fall in love all over again with her characters. And yes, like Riley I was more than tempted to grab a Thesaurus at times!

Well, that’s all for now. I’m about to dive into Ties That Bind with a hopeful heart that this next book will tie a pretty bow around my heart the way the first two books did!

Lost in Flight (Complicated Love, #1) By: Neeny Boucher
5 out of 5 stars!

The description for this book says that if you like socially awkward and badly behaved people this book is for you! HA - boy was Neeny Boucher right. I don’t know whether I want to roll over and cry that I have to wait for the next one, or pray to the book gods for Ms. Neeny to write faster! Dina is the life of the party and the devil on her own shoulder in this book, after running away from her entire life to live out a dream of her and her mothers by becoming a lawyer she ends up coming back to her hometown to take care of her younger sister after one of the most strange accidents I’ve ever read… it shouldn’t be funny but once you get to know “little sister dearest” you will laugh right along with me while thinking that tree couldn’t kill her if it tried! While Dina comes home her ex-husband is also in town and right away sparks fly, imaginary hatchets are thrown, drunken mishaps become a more than one night occurrence and life as Dina has known it for the past decade will never be the same. Riley (Nicholas Riley - her Ex-husband) doesn’t know whether to strangle her or tie her up and have his way with her. We get to follow their story through multiple points of view and each person we have the pleasure of reading gives us a new look into their crazy yet loving relationship. These two have years worth of issues to work out and the only way that will happen is if they stop fighting for twelve hours of the day and getting busy the other twelve! These two seemed like they were meant to be together from the very beginning of the book because their chemistry was truly electric. While this story might not be their final HEA you know that soon enough another story will follow to take you further into their crazy and chaotic lives, and I can’t wait to take that journey with them!

Reformed bad girls, continually bad boys, a few rockers, a few hippies, and two best friends…this book is a total tornado and I loved getting caught up in the storm!

I was given an ARC for my honest review. I will update when this book is released.

*****UPDATE*****

This wonderful book has been released. I was honored to have the opportunity to read this amazing gem before everyone else. If you are looking for a different type of book rather than your boy meets girl and we all swoon, then this one is for you. You have two people who are damaged yet incredibly stubborn and strong willed. The cringe worthy arguments and banter is beyond entertaining. Their friends and family as secondary characters made me laugh so incredibly hard. I saw a few of my friends within these characters and it made me fall in love with this story even more. The development of them and their wit was what kept me engaged in this wonderfully written book. I would recommend this to anyone and I can not wait to see what shenanigans they get into in book 2!

When I started this book I felt like I missed a chunk of something so I was thinking Argh she best explain where things went crazy. Well as the book unfolded we got more and more into the story we were told of their past and what lead to now. Which can be tricky with books. I think Dina needs therapy. Also Riley as well. I love them still even in all their explosive glory. I still love Riley regardless of the fact he manipulates and moves people to his will in his own attempt to protect them. Dina what can I say you're a grown train wreck. I like that shit. Mason gives me the damn creeps! That club scene. Nasty. You get some good news on Johnny and an insight to how Gabby grew up. So now I'm on to the 3rd. There better be a happy ending dammit

This is the story that I had the up most pleasure reading. It brought a torrent of my own feelings to the surface. I can't say that I ever recall a fictional story ever doing that before. It was as if I was reading a reflection of my own story with different elements. Only, I didn't get my HEA.

I have never been on such an emotional roller coaster as I was with Dina and Riley. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I ranted, I raved, I sang, and I swooned with these characters. Their journey from the past to the present was just as much mine as it was theirs.

I honestly started with Back of Beyond in the series. Also, I was shocked to learn that this is Neeny Boucher's first novel. She knocked it out of the park! It very much complementary to Back of Beyond and should be read after to understand it better.

My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

A good friend recommended this author to me and I am so glad that she put her in touch with me. This read is definitely making the list for one of my favorites this year and I am (not so) patiently waiting for the sequel.

Most of us have a story or 10 that, somewhere in the mix, the line “I will never drink xxx again!” My personal story involves Blackberry Brandy but that is a tale for me, myself and I and a handful of thou shalt remain nameless as I am hoping that they were all too drunk to remember…anyway – this read begins on that note.

Christina is our female lead and is by far one of the easiest characters to relate to. She’s in her late twenties, has a solid career and is trying to establish herself. Married young and divorced, Christina is trying to deal with a few ghosts from her past and seem to always surface. One of those ghosts is her ex-husband Riley.

Riley…oh my! What a heart breaker. From the moment we are introduced to this man, you know you are going to be in for a wild ride. His personality is one that you just can’t help but laugh and shake your head at. The best way to describe him is a perpetual kid at heart. Riley is definite swoon worthy and a character that you are going to love to love, despite his flaws.

Both main characters are stubborn, headstrong, independent individuals who refuse to admit when they are wrong and that they are sorry. Communication lacks big time between Christina and Riley and when they are together, it’s like watching a slow moving train wreck. You know what damage is going to ensue however it’s comical watching it all unfold.

The supporting characters are great. From the best friends to the extended family, they all play a very important role in the dynamic of Christina and Riley’s relationship. We are given past and present alternating points of view from both Christina and Riley. Getting to be inside their heads and listening to their inner dialogue is hilarious. I haven't laughed out loud so much while reading in a long time. Ms. Boucher did a wonderful job detailing how this romance came to be and also how it crashed and burned. Well, almost crashed and burned.

It is incredibly easy to lash out and hurt the one you love the most. It is also hard to acknowledge when you are wrong and have to say you’re sorry to that same person. Admitting your faults and being willing to accept defeat and grow from those mistakes is probably one of the biggest challenges in any relationship. Watching these two characters grow, fall apart and then grow again is heartwarming. You will find yourself rooting for these two extremely dysfunctional in love characters from beginning to end.

There is language, drinking and some extremely hot make up and “hate” sex. There is also a sequel due out this spring/summer and I am going to let you all know now that you will be stalking Ms. Boucher for book 2.

Lost in Flight is book #1 in the Complicated Love Series by Neeny Boucher and the first book I have read by this author, I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review so here goes....

This book is funny, I found myself chuckling and smirking to myself almost the whole way through. It’s also kind of odd lol the characters are all a bit strange!!!

Christina and Riley are an amazing couple he’s smug and she’s self righteous, they have the most brilliant fights and I just loved them!!!!

Christina is like two different people when she’s with her friends or family she’s witty and funny and normal but the moment she is around riley she is either screaming, crying or ripping his clothes off.

I LOVE Riley don’t get me wrong he’s a smug bastard and at times I wanted to reach into the book and slap the grin off his scheming face lol. At times he is just plain nasty and he laughs at her I’m amazed he’s got all balls left intact lol.

Underneath it all for both Christina and Riley it’s just all bravado they are soooo incredibly in love with each other they literally have no idea how to deal with it.

Every time Riley and Christina spoke to each other it made me smile, even if they were arguing they just had so much passion for each other they were just infectious.

This couple has so much history spanning from the age of 15 to the current day and they have had so many ups and downs but they just can’t fall out of love with each other and I just think that so beautiful. Theirs is the type of love that outlasts hate and age and misunderstandings and I’m willing them to get their happily ever after.

This book is super quirky and I really liked all of the rest of the characters even the super weird Massssson Glenn lol. All of the characters feel like one big dysfunctional family that centres around the Martins lol.

The dynamic between Christina, Mandy and Bonnie was hilarious and they bounced off each other and the banter was brilliant. I got drawn into their friendship and I felt the love they had for each other.

I loved the boys too Jed and Andy James were like a comedy act!!!

I haven’t even mentioned the sex and hell I really need to, its seriously hot and steamy Christina and Riley literally can’t keep their hands off each other.

This book made me feel instantly at home, that may sound daft but I was just so drawn into the world and the story that I got completely absorbed.

I couldn’t put this book down and I finally finished it at just after 4am I’m super tired but as soon as this review is finished I’m going to be starting book #2 The Ties That Bind.

I loved this book quirks and all it gets 4.5 stars from me!!!

I gave this book 4.5stars and love finding a well written book like this by an indie author. It was witty, funny, romantic, sometimes angsty, hot in parts and just overall kept my attention. The story line was interesting as this couple was married at one point and were very much in love yet they divorced. It wasn't a typical meet a new guy/girl and fall in love in fact they're past the college years and established in careers, etc. The book keeps your interest because "something" or a few "something's" occurred in the past and you'll need to read to find out what happened to break them up and then the big question is will they get back together in the present.(Of course I was rooting for them!)

The road for the present time is littered with very vocal family and friends that really added to the story. There was drama, jealousy and for those that worry about "cheating", they did not cheat while together but the author wrote some stuff that had me anxious to turn the pages... I recall laughing towards the beginning of the book during one scene(after the first bar visit) and thought I was going to wake up the house-I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud as much as I did while reading a book.

I don't know much about the author or another book but while it didn't end with a cliffhanger, it did just sort of end. This actually fit at the part of the story that was being told yet I could see a follow up book come out about them or just end there. That leads me to another thing I liked about the story and that's the author kept it pretty real and while the funny parts were a little exaggerated(but not too much), it was nice to see this couple have real issues that weren't just going to get swept away with a kiss and some nice words. Riley and Christina have alternating points of view that also go between the past and present at times. All the writing flowed well during these switches and I think the secondary characters that were constant also helped these transitions. I'm definitely keeping my eye out for the next book and look forward to reading more by this author.Lost in FlightNeeny Boucher

“Lost in Flight-Complicated Love #1” by Neeny Boucher
5 out of 5 stars

Plan to get lost in this book!!! Neeny Boucher has spun a web of love so complicated it will keep you glued to your seat enjoying the thrill of the ride! For Dina (AKA Christina) and Riley love has not been an easy journey. Falling in love as teenagers and marrying young, they thought they could face anything. But all too soon life threw them one too many obstacles and the foundation they had built began to crumble under the pressure. Now circumstance has thrown together again as adults and its obvious the fire still burns hot between them. Will they overcome years of misunderstandings to find a way to last or will their fire leave them burnt beyond repair?

I loved these two characters. They complimented each other in a way that I don’t often see in books. Dina is an exercise in contradiction. One minute she’s the buttoned-up, fierce lawyer and the next she’s a full on rocker chick with the talent to go places. She seems conflicted at every turn but at the heart of it is a desire to be truly loved and needed by Riley and her family, as well. She was such an interesting character to read and it was great seeing her begin to reconcile the two sides of her life so she could finally live and be happy.

Riley is just as conflicted as Dina. He loves her but fears he could never really keep her satisfied. He’s never been able to find happiness and often goes off the grid for months at a time searching for what continues to elude him. Riley’s been living a half-life since the two parted ways and he’s finally realized he’ll never be whole without Dina. The chemistry between them is off the charts and it sizzles up the pages.

There is no shortage of side characters, each bringing their own uniqueness to the story. I hope to hear more of their stories as the series continues. Boucher weaves an exciting tale using the present day and lots of flashbacks to propel the story forward. It was cool to witness past events first hand and it built a solid foundation for what was happening in the present. Boucher’s series has me excited and anxious for more. She is a must read and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

This book draws you in and makes you hold your breath. Neeny Boucher did an amazing job with the creation of these characters and this story. This is a story of high school sweet hearts that try to make a life with each other and find out that it is pretty hard. When tragedy strikes Christina brakes down and runs, afraid that she will die if she doesn’t get out of her home town. In the process of trying to outrun their broken hearts and their pasts, Christina and Riley grow up and discover that eventually you have to stop running and face the music.
Present day, Christina (Dina) is a very new lawyer building her practice. When tragedy strikes again in her family, Dina is forced to face a past that she has been trying to out-run. She was a rebellious teenager that decided to marry her one true love at the age of 18 only to learn that grown up life isn’t all happiness and rainbows.
Riley is Dina’s first love and ex-husband. He has spent a lot of his adult life also trying to out-run his past. But quickly learns that sometimes the heart has different plans. Riley has always had close ties with Dina’s family through her brother and his band, even after the divorce he continues to stay close to the family.
Throughout the story we get to meet and learn about Mason, past and present. Mason is a friend and business partner with Riley. He is another crazy character that we get to know and love to hate. Dina and Mason do not like each other and have no problems demonstrating that anytime they are near each other.
Riley and Christina have an amazing chemistry that makes you want them to get it together. But in the same instance you want to yell at them for being childish and stupid at times. The characters in the book are quirky and amazing you can’t help but fall in love with them. The Martin family is as dysfunctional as they come, but still maintain a close knit connection through music and their love of each other.
Throughout this book I experienced every emotion possible, I laughed, cried and got angry at the characters and situations. This book is for anyone who loves a good love story that has a lot of bumps along the way. I was very disappointed as I was finishing the book, because I was not ready to leave Riley, Dina, Mason or the Martin family yet. The great news is that there will be another book to continue this amazing story.

3-3.5 stars. The premise of was really good. We learn immediately that Dina and Riley's relationship is complicated. They love each other madly but married too young to understand how to make a relationship work. They drift apart and back together over a 8-10 year period. They know how to get under each others skin and into each other's pants. Riley was certainly yummy so I can see how that could happen often.

I loved the friendship dynamic of all the characters. I would totally hang out with everyone in this book and even the author. Her playlist could easily be mine and all of the characters could be any one of my friends. So for that reason I was like "Go story...go!"

 photo giphy27_zps5362c300.gif

but dang was I disapointed...

The reason this didn't rate higher for me is because it was too long with way too many side stories that had nothing to do with and sometimes conflicted the main plot. I found myself forgetting the point and what the characters were trying to accomplish.

There were a ton of good ideas smushed into one book. I wanted to explore them all but was left unsatisfied. Maybe this could have been two books. I felt the ending was rushed and I wanted to "feel the love" but it just didn't hit the spot. Not my jam but it could work for you! :)

Neeny Boucher’s "Lost in Flight" is a laugh out loud, cringe-worthy read with a little heartbeat and joy.
A lot has happened with Dina and Riley ("Back of Beyond"). They became adults but managed to bypass maturity. Their story is realistic. Their path to happiness isn’t straight nor narrow. There are boulders and potholes paving the way.

"Back of Beyond" was about truth, love, and friendship. "Lost in Flight" gives us a glimpse of how sins of omission, grief, and immaturity can affect love and friendship. Our actions can, and will, compound poor decisions when we fear facing our mistakes. Deep.

Dina has embraced her given name, Christina, and a real career as a lawyer. Riley is… well, Riley. He’s had a lot of varied career paths, but it’s worked for him. Remember, they didn’t have a great love story. They had a real story. Boucher reminds readers that sometimes love goes sideways. It takes bravery to put the wheels back on the car (love) and restore it (like Riley’s grandfather’s truck).

I still love the characters Boucher created, but I LOVE Riley so much more. He’s not blameless in this debacle of a relationship. He just responded the only way he knew how. When you learn how he’s coped, it will touch your heart. Christina is still the same girl who lived in her head and jumps to conclusions. As a lawyer she uses rational thought processes. In reality, she can’t think her way to the front door when it comes to Riley. She also has problems seeing clearly with her family.
The surprise character turns out to be Gabby, Dina’s little sister. She’s a spitfire and the fountain of strength and maturity in the Martin clan.

Don’t believe that this is a heavy hitting tome that will leave you drained. Boucher’s raw, snarky humor rings throughout the story. She has a way with words that leave you blushing along with the characters. Priceless.

I can’t say enough good things about "Lost in Flight", a story about soul searching and facing hard truths. I highly recommend it.

Review of Life in Flight

I read these books for the Book Curmudgeon. Wow. What an awesome tumultuous soul ripping love story. I am in love with these characters. They are like old friends that hint at my own weird crazy life. The crazy wild yet prudish Dina and the hot green eyed Riley have known each other forever. The way only small town people can. Their families are branded and their lives whispered about and judged before the truth is told. There love was endless but so was their arguing. Would love be enough to bring them back after so many years of trying to hurt each other and then years avoiding each other? I love when Dina said that Riley was a" familiar stranger.” I have felt that way about people in my life.  In Beyond, they fight for each other and their soulmate love. Theirs is a story of finally seeing "the one" was right in front of them the whole time.  This next book has them get married, deal with death, try to "find themselves” and the ups and downs that is life. The resentment distance non communication and very evil deeds make their relationship crumble.  The crazy situations they get into are legendary in their town. Is it possible to find a book so wonderful you read it three times in a row because it ends and you can't let go?  It is what I did with these books.  I confess I am not a fan of sappy romance novels but this book is not sappy but this book is very romantic.  Giving these book five stars is just not enough. This author is a true story teller. I have laughed and cried and felt angry as I was swept into these wonderful two books. I can't wait to read TTB. It is amazing how much I enjoyed these books. And they are books I strongly recommend reading. They are destined to be classics for sure.

I have a list of pet peeves when it comes to POV. Neeny does an amazing job alternating POVs. Not only does she do a great job alternating but writing from a male POV that really reflects how I always thought my male counterpart is feeling. Although this is a women author, the male POV feels like a man. The stubbornness, the lack of getting words out, the not wanting drama,... list goes on. There is a few scenes that are so spot on. Outside of the club- they can't seem to communicate (which is very real) and the hotel scene that follows. I felt Dina was so spot on with a women's insecurities and Riley with his POV.
Dina is a great, strong character. Riley is equally great. I love the balance. They fit, it wasn't as if I was invested in ones happiness more than the others or I liked one more, I was invested in them solo as well as a couple. I loved the back and forth intensity.

Awesome supporting cast, I am sure some will get their own books. But Johnny was really a great brother, Mason made me laugh (although, that is my sadistic side), Jed and Bonnie were rather funny as well. There was really memorable moments, both laugh out loud and sweet. Great story about two people that love each other so fiercely but can't get on the same page. I am a sucker for stories like that.

“I’ve tried, Christina,” he started and then stopped, clenching his jaw. “I’ve tried to keep away from you, but I can’t.” Motioning his finger backwards and forwards between them, he said. “Whatever this is , it’s torture for me. I know you’re young and inexperienced. I’m frightened I’m going to ruin you, but I think I’m going to die if you’re not mine.”

Complicated doesn't even define this story. It's funny, sweet, and hot. I like the way how the story went, though I have a few relapse, with going from the past to the present then going back. The bickering, swearing, partying and all other crazy shinanigans in this story was the reason why I can't stop reading it. I like the sweet and romantic gestures the characters, not only Riley and Christina, show to one another.

I sympathize with Christina and how she is went with her life from teen angst to finding love to early marriage to experiencing crazy marriage life to losing someone dear and finding the "rigth" path to go from there to divorce process to life after divorce to reliving the past. Wow, that was a mouhtful. I get it and sometimes or rather mostly I see her with my own actions and hope tomthe heavens I get to survive it if I ever get to experience the roller coaster life of Christine Martin. I love that she is strong, loving and caring to the people she love and that her Achilles heel is the person she left but always love.

Riley. I don't know what to say but, "Dude your as fucked up as Christina and I am proud of you". I love his undying (pun intended) love for Christina and I always wait for his perspective of the story while reading this book.

I am more than interested with what happens jext to this two . . . love birds. . . in the second book and I am more than ready to see more of the other characters in the story because they got my attention as well while reading this story.

4-4.5 stars for this book!

The book Lost in Flight by Neeny Boucher has a lot of good things to offer—and one of the best is its sense of humor. I kept laughing throughout. Another is its portrayal of character and a growing feeling of connection to the people in the story. Early on I began to recognize elements of myself--and bits and pieces of others who are close to me.

No, I am not an ex-grunge queen like the heroine Christina Martin—but I could relate to her angst in dealing with her on-again off-again relationship with the love of her life Riley. Also, to her self-doubt, often impulsive behavior, and the missed connections which so often cropped up in her life.

Most of the characters could be described as ‘quirky’—another point of reference to readers--since so many of us evolve from, shall we say, delightfully eccentric families. I found Christina’s girlfriends especially fun and always looked forward to their appearances on the scene. I found the guys…well, kind of typical…but pretty real.

The writing style is fast-paced—and the dialogue snappy, lending to the humor. There is a feistiness, an alive quality, to this book. All in all—a great read. Sometimes I got a little confused by the author’s use of flashbacks. But my overall reaction after reading the last page was—bring on the next in the series! I look forward to it.

I was generously gifted a copy for an honest review. It took me a while to actually start reading this. Life sometimes gets crazy and you can't spare the time to escape. I was totally missing out! Once I started this I couldn't stop. Neeny Boucher killed it! As I become absorbed into this world she created, I realized the characters were so realistic I forgot I was reading fiction. I felt I was sitting right beside Christina and Riley, literally living their experiences. The plot was laugh out loud funny, filled with drama (realistic drama), and chemistry. I loved the social outcast Christina, and the moody, sometimes A-hole Riley. The book left me smiling, eagerly wanting more. I wasn't ready for it to end. Major book hangover at the moment.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a story that is quiet frankly honest. Life isn't all happily ever afters. Relationships aren't always butterflies and roses. Life is messy. And complicated. And sometimes it beats the hell out of you. Things can change drastically over miscommunication and selfish tendencies. People sometimes have to fall apart to fall back together.
Neeny I think you are brilliant and I look forward to more from you. Thank you so much for this opportunity. I LOVED getting to know Christina and Riley. Keep writing!!!!
