Biography of Thomas Ken, an important figure in the late eighteenth century English Church, serving as Bishop of Bath and Wells, before being deprived of his episcopate after refusing to relinquish his oaths to King James II and offer his allegiance to William and Mary. Thus, he became a leading figure among the Nonjurors, though at the end of his life he would be reconciled to the Church of England. Originally published in 1958, it was rereleased in 1964 as part of the Great Anglicans Series.
A bit hagiographic, but it is an interesting and helpful read of the life of a man whose name is largely unknown to most moderns, and yet we may sing a refrain from his hymns most every Sunday in the Doxology.
