Virgin Treasure
She was a jewel among women, brighter than the moon and stars. Her hair shone like newly minted gold, and her skin was as smooth and iridescent as an exquisite pearl. Her lips were lush and pink, made for kissing. She was a pirate’s prize, yet he could not so much as touch her.

Virgin Trouble
Destined for the harem of a Turkish potentate, Willow wondered whether she should rejoice or despair when her ship was beset by a sinfully handsome pirate. Now it seemed she was a helpless pawn in a power play between two brothers. Fortunately for Willow, neither Ibrahim nor Dariq realized that a clever woman is never without resources. No matter how much he tempted her, she would teach her captor a thing or two before she gave her heart to…The Pirate Prince.

Willow is an English lady who is abducted and sold to a Turkish sultan, but on her way to him she's abducted yet again by Prince Dariq. Yes, author Connie Mason can't remember the name she gave to Willow's maid, and I feel Mason totally forgot she set her story during the Tudor era and started writing a Regency towards the end, but I forgive her. Connie was trying to bring us the best in HR heroes. Dariq was both a pirate and a sheik with a harem. If only he had been a highlander, then the trifecta would have been complete.

This leads me to lay down the challenge to Connie Mason and other HR writers. I challenge them to write a romance about a highlander pirate sheik. It'll be epic, matched only by a contemporary romance about a billionaire shapeshifting Navy SEAL.

Found this book in a Salvation Army Thrift Store. Couldn't believe this was written by a grandmother of six; if my grandmother wrote like this, I couldn't look at her the same way.

The Pirate Prince was just an okay read for me. I feel like I've read this "I was forced into a life of crime and now I must get my revenge by taking this hostage, but fall in love with them instead" tale several times now, and have read it done better. Prince Dariq fled Instabul when his brother, the sultan, ordered all of his male siblings killed. Now, he's a pirate but only attacks ships delivering goods to his brother. Then one day, the treasure isn't jewels, silks, and spices, but a blonde English woman. Dariq plans to use her as leverage, if he can resist her allure.

I did like The Pirate Prince in places, but overall it left me kind of bored and annoyed. Every single time anyone talks about Willow, it has to be about her hair which looks like spun gold. Every time. We get it, she's blonde and hot and unlike Turkish women. Then there's the romance. I liked the latter part of the Dariq and Willow's relationship much better than the development. I simply didn't believe that first moment when they realize they have feelings for the other. She spent most of the time telling him she doesn't want his wicked attentions, but they have sex anyway, lather, rinse, repeat.

The ending of The Pirate Prince also had me rolling my eyes. Like I said, I did get into the romance later on, and I enjoyed the plotline of him trying to rescue her from his evil brother's harem. I wanted them to be together! I really did! But I wanted them to say "to hell with society's expectations" and just go for it. Instead, there's a twist. A pretty predictable twist, since there's constant mentions of Dariq being half English. It just felt like a cop out to me. Like, they couldn't be together unless he was "acceptable" aka seen as a Britishman.

The Pirate Prince does have good things going for it. I liked that it's set in the 16th century and in Turkey and Greece rather than England or Scottland. But I just wish that there wasn't such a strong focus on how white Willow is and how not white Dariq is, at least until it comes time for them to be together in public. That rubbed me the wrong way.

This was a disappointing book and on most days I wouldn't have stuck with it and I'm not really sure why I did, it was very predictable but then the same can be said of a lot of romance books but this held so many mistakes, like Willow's maid was originally called Kitty but then it changes to Polly. When Saliha Sultana speaks to Willow in English Ibrahim says " I do not understand your heathenish tongue " yet later in the book he's speaking perfect English. Also Dariq made the observation about Willow " she would satisfy a stone if it had a cock " strange quote I thought hard to imagine how it made it into the final draft of this book.
It was a shame because although predictable it could have been a much better book.

SPOILERS! Mason is really good at naming her characters.

Things Mason has taught me through her writing:
No means Yes
Abortion is WRONG
"Pulling out" is probably an effective form of birth control

This book blows if you have any regard for yourself, or for decent literature. I was offended reading this garbage, and that's hard to do. I don't get offended at silly romance novels, but rape = sexy? Nope, not buying it.

I enjoyed this book and though I read it several years ago, I remember it well. Nice characters. Prince Dariq had a loyal servant, Mustafa, and he was great, too. Fun read and the culture change for this author was...refreshing. HOT!

Not every romance novel derserves a rave. The pirate prince took me by surprise! I think this is a top ten romance novel. The angst and chemistry was cerebral and deeply felt. Parts were so upsetting and others so amazing that it kept me on my toes.. and the end I was not ready to go on (like I sometimes am with romance novels where everything lines up too perfectly)
I don’t care if the heroine is too perfect, in fact I like it. I live vicariously through them and why make a heroine subpar or boring or dull just so I can feel better about myself? I’m Asian and my features didn’t look like this heroine at all- but that’s why I love romance novels! Duh. If my life was as perfect as that- I would not be reading these and so engrossed in them. One thing I liked about this book and the speed of progress. So many novels make the mistake of trying to build anticipation with filler just to have everything happen in the last few pages (very weak) this book does not do that. Other books the author is almost too politically correct about the heroine or hero (even in historical romances) and they ruin the characters. They never develop. (I’m not holding romance heroinces on a political pedestal here- I want romance) I want gorgeous heroines and magnetic hero’s. I am so impressed with this that I ordered all of Connie masons other romance novels on amazon. ALL of them.

"The Pirate Prince" by Connie Mason is a historical romance novel that tells the story of exiled Turkish prince, Dariq, who must choose between his plan to save his mother from the hands of his enemy and the love of Lady Willow. When Dariq meets Willow, he is immediately drawn to her, but he must choose between his love for her and his duty to his mother. He seeks to exchange her for his mother who is held captive by his evil brother in Istanbul.

Sadly, I wasn't very drawn to this book. Willow was naive and too forgiving and swept by the hero's actions and masculinity. I expected her to have more backbone. I skim read the last half of the book. This book isn't like other Connie Mason books. Her writing in this one is not as engaging as some of her previous works.

She: Captive Englishwoman, purchased and destined for a sultan's harem, when her ship is pirated by the hero.

He: The sultan's brother. To avenge the murder of his brothers, he has been harassing the sultan's fleet and taking plunder. The sultan has threatened to kill the hero's mother if he doesn't turn himself in. He knows his brother is eager for this new addition to his harem and intends to trade the heroine for his mother.

Of course, as they begin to have feelings for each other, his conflicts over his need to carry out his plan to save his mother vs. his growing aversion to turning heroine over to his brother, create some nice emotional moments. What I don't get is the heroine. She absolutely doesn't want to be traded. She wants to go home to England. But she does nothing to make herself less desirable in the trade. She knows the sultan values her because of her golden hair. Does she cut it off? There were dozens of ways she could thwart the hero, and she doesn't think of any of them. Makes me wonder about her determination, intelligence, etc. Later, she allows herself to be forced into another situation that she doesn't like and makes no real effort to change minds in her favor.

Even so, it's a pretty good story.

Is this a comedy?

This book is so stupid I laughed through the entire thing. The dialogue is horrendously silly....makes the characters look and act ridiculous! The only reason I give one star is so I could write this review to forewarn others from wasting money...unless you want a good laugh. Really...I would never ever recommend this awful book to anyone....it is a shame!

Guilty... after reading the sea king, I had high hopes for another seaward hottie. Book was entertaining, though not my favorite. Main charactor is the classic headstrong female, who is unaware of her beauty as she is her perilous situation. Very predictable.

I read this book about three years ago and absolutely loved it. Connie Mason brings you "right there" in the middle of the action. She obviously did her research. Full of excitement and romance.
