Always Her Cowboy by Karen Rose Smith is a 2013 publication.
This is the fourth installment in the ‘Search for Love’ series.
I love a good western style contemporary romance, especially those that blend strong family ties in with the romantic elements to create an emotional story with depth and feeling.
This story, centers around Lucy McIntyre, who was adopted at birth, and is very close with her family, but has recently discovered she may have a biological sister. She’s very interested in finding her sister, but she also has her hands full on the ranch where her brother is going through a rough patch and she is trying to cover for him. To that end, she has hired Zack to help out at ‘The Rising Star’.
Almost immediately the connection between them is palpable, but Zack makes it quite clear he has no intention of sticking around. He’s a loner, a traveler, a drifter, and he likes it that way, thank you very much, but the more time he spends around Lucy, the harder it becomes to resist the attraction between them. Wanting to give into the passion and desire they both feel, wanting to live in the moment, but knowing Lucy deserves more, Zack has a lot of soul searching to do.
Can love heal Zack’s broken heart and help him find peace again?
This story is sweet, a little saucy and sexy, and emotional on several fronts. The topics range from dealing with the death of loved ones, problem drinking, infertility, and family connections.
That is a lot of ground to cover, but the author brought all the elements together nicely to give this couple the happily ever after they both deserved.
I did worry about Zack a lot, as his pain is quite obvious, but his stubbornness was almost his undoing. Lucy, put up with him for a time, but I was afraid she was about to throw in the towel. Whew, he was one tough nut to crack! But, I ended up really liking him and think he is perfect for Lucy. The family issues were also compelling and thought provoking, adding a lot of depth to the story.
Overall, this is an enjoyable and touching story.
