Wrecked

Rate this book
Ever since Lily died two years ago, Evie has been lost. She exists but doesn’t live, and she copes the only way she knows how: by wrecking things.

She exposes her dad’s affairs, ends things with her longtime boyfriend, and just last semester she destroyed her music scholarship. Desperate to break away from all the destruction she’s caused and start over, Evie reinvents herself at her new university.

But then Rhys, her new voice instructor, happens. He’s gorgeous, insanely talented and a part of the dark past she’s trying to overcome. Rhys’s brother is the reason why Evie's life is such a mess right now, the reason why Lily, Evie's sister, is dead. Even though Rhys is the last person Evie should ever want, for the first time in two years, wrecking things seems…right.

Emily Snow is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who loves angst, hot alphaholes, and enemies-to-lovers, so naturally, she writes stories about all three.

Wrecked is the story of Evie, a college student repeating her freshman year at another school because of all the mistakes she had made the previous year. A music major, Evie is partnered up with a mentor who will help coach her through voice lessons. But she has a problem. Evie has met Rhys, her mentor. before and he doesn't remember her. But he is connected to one of the worst moments of her life...

I enjoyed reading this book, but a number of aspects about it made the book fall flat. For one, the romance/relationship between Evie and Rhys felt very forced to me. There was obviously an attraction between the two of them, but the "relationship" happened very quickly and there was no building up to it. For the beginning of the book the main character spent more time dealing with the issues of everyone around her than she did with Rhys, and then they jumped right in like she had been around him all along, and she really hadn't. The two didn't even know each other, and then all of the sudden they were enamored with each other.

Despite this, the book really picked up in the second half, and that's where Evie as a character really began to grow. She dealt with her painful past and did her best to become a better person, even if she was hiding things from Rhys that as a reader, we knew would come back to bite her in the ass.

I almost never mention this, but there were a few typos that took my focus away from the book. I'm not normally one to nitpick this, but since this wasn't an arc, and it happened more than 3 times, it really started to get on my nerves. So hopefully they go back and fix these small mistakes if possible!

An enjoyable read, but nothing astounding.

HEA:

I've been waiting on this book for a while and I thought for sure that it would be something I would enjoy. Both the hero and heroine are musicians, there's seemed to be a little bit of angst in it, and I have enjoyed this author in the past. Unfortunately, this book fell through in grabbing my emotions for the characters. I felt bored through much of the book which led to a lot of skimming. I did think that the basic structure and story were good, but it was a lot of little details that added up to make this less than great. There were several things I did enjoy about it. But honestly, this book was only o.k. and not something I would ever read again.

First of all, I really think Rhys needed a lot more work. The first half of the book is spent primarily on Evie. Her history. Her emotions. Her personality. The only thing we really know about him is:

He's hot.
He's a little older and her music teacher's assistant.
He's now her tutor.
His brother killed her sister in a drunk driving accident.

They only have a couple interactions where she fights her extreme attraction to him because she feels like she's betraying her sister. But I really didn't feel to much about that because I didn't feel to much about him.

What's his personality?
What's his character?
How does he feel about Evie?

I wasn't seeing any clues about that. And my feelings of ambivalence continued. To be fair, I may be a little spoiled reading so many dual POV books, but I still think with more interaction between the two of them and more insight into who he really is, it would have grabbed my interest more.

The other thing that bothered me was the annoying drama with her roommates. It was all:

I don't know, I guess I'm past the point where immature fighting over a guy and gossiping behind backs interests me.

But the biggest thing that bothered me was the fact that even though she realized right away that he was the brother of the guy who killed her sister, he didn't know who SHE was. And she never tells him. I kept waiting for her to just come out and tell him. I waited after they finally got together. I waited after HE told HER about what his brother did and how much it haunted him. I waited. But she decided to continue being dishonest and building their relationship on lies. It bugged me so bad and all it was was unnecessary drama. Maybe she was going for angst...but it wasn't working for me.

What did I like? I liked that they were both talented musicians. He was a singer, he played piano, and guitar and he was a sweet guy who had been dealt a hard life, just like her. I loved the scenes that involved music with them-I wished there could have been more scenes involving that.

I enjoy her writing style and the story had potential but the story wasn't anywhere near what I was expecting. This type of New Adult is not my thing, although, I know that some readers out there may still enjoy it. I prefer New Adult that leans more to the Adult rather than the New.

Good Story, But Not Great

I don't have too much to say about this story. It just didn't make a strong impression, one way or the other. It was a sweet, young adult romance. The story was okay, the characters were alright and it was entertaining enough. For whatever reason, I just never really felt very connected to the characters. Maybe the 19 year old angst and drama was just too difficult for me to relate to...

Essentially, Evie transfers to a new college after flunking out at her last school, and just acting out in general. She immediately recognizes, and begins crushing on, her voice coach/teacher's assistant Rhys. Problem is, Rhys' brother is responsible for the death of her sister about 2 years earlier.

Evie tries avoiding Rhys, but eventually has to start facing him for her voice lessons or repeat history. The more she is around him, the more their mutual attraction grows. After they finally have sex, (which was pretty hot by the way!) the connection is finally made by Rhys. They break up. Heartache and pining ensues.

That is the gist of things, in a very condensed manner. There were many cute parts that made me smile and a few that made me roll my eyes. I listened primarily to the audiobook version and that may be what was shut a put-off for me. I just could not get past the horrible accent. It really was bad and distracting. If I had been more focused on the story and less on the narrator's terrible impression of a "southern" accent, I might have enjoyed it more.

I have read some really great books by this author, but Wrecked was a bit of a disappointment for me.

It's a sweet YA romance which did not make a huge impression to me....I didn't feel that the two main characters had a connection or chemistry with each other. I liked Rhys more than Eve...she started to annoy me to no end....all her angst and drama.

The story moved at a slow pace and hell, did it take ages and ages before the big REVEAL is finally here!!!! And the usage of the word WRECKED......what was that all about????

Let me just say that it was an okay story...but not anything great!! I have read much better books written by Emily Snow.

Adding this to the TBR! It sounds really good!

The blurb says this is a standalone about a girl who is starting fresh in a new university after her whole life went downhill... Then Rhys, her new voice instructor, happens. He’s gorgeous and insanely talented, but he’s the last person she should want because he's also a part of the dark past she's trying to get away from...

This was the first book I've read by Emily Snow and don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad but I had a total different expectation after reading the blurb. I wanted angst, raw emotions, struggle ...just more feelings throughout the book - but all this, I didn't really get.

The writing was good but I wasn't really glued to my kindle.

The blurb, the prologue, and even some of the flashbacks were promising but all this fell short because Evelyn and Rhys 'relationship' didn't take over the majority of the book. I've read a lot what was going on with her college friends, a bit of her family drama, and about her best friend. How she wrecked things was mentioned, too, but it rather left me feel cold than evoke a reaction out of me. I couldn't really connect or get attached with Evelyn's pain and heartache - same goes with Rhys'. We learn his family isn't as perfect either (as learned in the blurb) but all the talking was superficial; it lacked on depths for me.

Their steamy encounters were indeed STEAMY but that's it.

I wished and wanted more from the book; sure, that's just my opinion and many rated it 5 stars but I expected more, especially after reading such a blurb.

This doesn't mean I won't keep an eye out for Ms Snow's other books, or that you won't like her book; just that this one wasn't very satisfying for me.

This book was really fast paced and I couldn't put it down. There were a few parts that made me laugh and parts that made me sad - I felt so bad for Evie. I really loved Rhys and Evelyn together and there was definitely some steam. My only minor complaint is that I really wish there was an epilogue - I wasn't ready for the book to end. Highly recommend!

This book could have been much better. It moved so slow! I kept waiting for the big reveal and it took forever. It took forever for the two mc's to act on their feelings for each other.
And Evie,

I just wasn't sure about her.
But Rhys,

He was to die for.

So overall, 3 stars. It wasn't tragic but it wasn't stellar.

There was a lot of good to this story, Evie was a strong and fun character and Rhys was swoonworthy hot, but I just didn't feel a strong connection to these characters, or their connection to each other. Too much of the story seemed glossed over or skipped. A bit rushed maybe? Or maybe it was just my mood when reading it. I love Emily Snow and I've always loved her books but this one just fell a bit flat for me. I'd still recommend it as a light read though.

And she's BACK!!!! I loved this new standalone by Emily Snow - though I am biased and love everything she has ever written :)

This is a captivating story of Evie, who for the past two years wrecks everything in her life, but is now in a new college trying to move past the hurts of her past and start living life again. Ever since her sister Lily died, Evie has felt an enormous sense of guilt and in turn ruins anything good in her life and self destructing.

Realizing that she needs to move past this and truly live for herself, Evie attends a new college to reinvent herself and do the things she loves which is singing. I truly liked Evie - she is feisty and tells it like it is and I commend her for trying to get back to who she once was vs. being the shell of herself that she has become. It takes a lot of strength to make those realizations on your own and do something about it.

Enter my new hot musician boyfriend Rhys, who teachers her much more than music but gives her a reason to open her heart again to something more...to love..to feel...to live...I have to hand it to Ms. Snow that she knows how to write men that we love and swoon over and Rhys was no exception. :) There is something so charming about Rhys and his southern drawl.

I will also say here that the sexual tension in this book combined with the flirting banter was killer *be still my heart!*

The friendship/relationship that Rhys and Evie have for each other is so beautiful and intense yet they do honestly frighten me because once the truth is revealed, I don't know if they can survive it. And so when those secrets are finally revealed and we find out how Rhys and Evie are connected, will they be able to move forward together to form a relationship or will they be so consumed by the past that they will wreck any chance for a future together?
You will have to read this book to find out!

So yes Rhys has a secret past too...one that we learn early on in the book. When Evie realizes who he is, I will admit that I wanted her to be more honest because you know how the saying goes with honesty is the best policy?? I understood why she chose not to but in my heart, Rhys was such a kind, sweet and patient guy and I almost wanted more for him. I would have loved more interactions between the characters especially with the music as there was such a strong connection between them both. Or even a dual POV, as it would have been nice to hear Rhy's thoughts about Evie too.
I also want to say here that I love watching Evie and her mother's relationship come full circle in this book. I am being vague only because I feel that you have to experience that interaction on your own as being a mom, it did bring tears to my eyes and the "feels" in my heart.

Ms. Snow knows how much I LOVE epilogues and I think this would have rounded out the book nicely but all in all I adored Wrecked, the writing was perfection, I was captivated and of course left wanting more of these characters. I closed my kindle with a smile on my face and love in my heart for these two beautiful characters. Though this is a standalone, I would love to revisit them just to see what the future holds....hint hint hint!!! With Emily's new book Wreck releasing, she has proved to us again, why we love her so!! <3

The blurb pulls you in immediately so I had to grab this and read it ASAP. I'm glad I did! I picked this up a few hours ago and couldn't put it down.

Reading Evie and Rhys' story was beautiful. Both of them are blaming themselves for the tragic accident that ruined their families and it was heartbreaking because they shouldn't have been dealing with that guilt. They didn't plan on it happening yet they feel like they're to blame.

After losing Lily, Evie's sister, Evie started wrecking things. She lost her boyfriend, her family wasn't a family anymore so she basically just gave up and did whatever she wanted to do. After cleaning up her act and starting a new school, you see the change in her. Her roommate, Corinne is the spitting image of what Evie use to be like during her 'dark' days so seeing the growth she went through was refreshing.

Rhys was...I don't know how to explain it. He was sexy, demanding, SEXY, and also going through his own hell with family issues. Seeing him and Evie together was just cute and I wished it happened earlier in the book.

There's no possible way you can't feel something for these two. They're both a little broken and that happens when tragedy strikes.

Highly recommended!

Gosh! Great book!

Two broken people dealing with the fallout of a tragedy that occurred two years previously. Their history is intertwined and fate brings them into each other's lives.

Evie is just getting her life back on track and living in guilt. She's just started at a new college after spending her previous year at another college in a drunken haze and lost her scholarship.

Rhys is gorgeous and talented. He's dealing with family issues. Unbeknownst to him, he's met Evie before. She remembers him.

They are drawn to one another. Evie tries to fight it, knowing their shared history.

This story is about Evie turning over a new leaf and coming to terms with her loss. It is about love, solid friendships and forgiveness. It is about moving on.

I know what another reviewer meant about it feeling a bit rushed or chapters were missing. I guess the author felt that a few extra chapters getting into the nitty gritty of the what and how weren't worthwhile, when there is a main story to be told. It didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book and I look forward to reading the author's other novels, which are already queued up on my Kindle!

Wrecked follows the life of Evie after her sister dies in a terrible, tragic accident. Going to school far from home is supposed to take her troubles away. However, once Rhys (pronounced Reese) walks into her school she knows she is in trouble. What follows is a couple of months of want and need on both Rhys and Evie’s part until finally they come together. But her past is soon to catch up with her as these two are linked in a serious way,

This book was a quick read for me. I actually finished it in a day. The characters were fairly likeable, but Eve’s secret really started to get to me. I also was becoming a little annoyed at how often the work wrecked was used throughout the book. In some instances even I couldn’t figure out why that word was being used in specific contexts. In any event, it was a decent book and I will have to check out some more of the books of Snow’s that I am hearing rave reviews about.

Overall Rating: 3.6

Sizzling Factor: Slow, steady burn.

Would read again?: No, but I will check out some more of her books!

This story really makes me contemplate why people lie. It's the same old story some one lies to some one else or holds back on telling some one the truth only for the other person to find out the truth in the end any way. Leading me to the conclusion of why do it in the first place. We all know the truth will inevitably come out so why not just do it in the first place.
Evie and Rhys are two people that are hiding from a pain from the past. Evie's trying to deal with the fact that she feels like it's all her fault that her sister is dead in the first place. Rhys is trying to deal with the pain of knowing that perhaps if he wasn't constantly bailing his alcoholic brother out of every situation he put himself in that perhaps he could of saved Lily from being killed by his brother.
Evie tries so hard to close off any of her feelings especially those she is feeling for Rhys but in the end true love prevails. A nice ending for these two.

This was not an easy read due to the series of events, death and guilt. It was a great read though. Heartbreaking series of events that lead 2 strangers who are more connected than they think. Life has funny way of throwing 2 people together.

I loved the way the book moved and I loved the heat between Evelyn and Rhys. It was a pretty incredible heat that the 2 of them felt for each other. The darkness that was lurking was waiting at every corner and the story had me totally connected as I turned each page.

Both Evie & Rhys are struggling with decisions and choices they made in the past that affected others and possibly their future. Guilt plagued them both. It is intense at times and very nicely written.

This is a standalone book, and it is a very quick and easy read. Hard to put down.

I absolutely loved this story! I loved that there was a history between Evie and Rhys and how that came into play with the whole storyline. Evie is a young girl and trying to figure out how to make everything right after she has destroyed everything for so long. She is strong and able to see past her present to where she wants to be and I think this has so much to do with what she has experienced in her life. Rhys also has so much going on with his brother being who he is and dealing with the consequences of what he did. They are both strong enough to come out on top if they allow themselves to do this. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes a love story that doesn't seem like a love story, mixed in with a little bit of coming-of-age stuff. Loved it!

Evelyn is broken or in her words wrecked. She starts a new college because she was so wrecked literally drunk that she failed out of her first semester of her previous one. So enrolling in another school where she wanted to be inconspicuous and not know anyone was her goal. She wanted to be numb. Her heart was wrecked. But her past comes to haunt her. She meets Rhys a man who she met once before. Someone she did not want to see again. But with his help maybe her heart would heal.

The story is sad and happy at the same time. It is frightening how alcohol and cheating can ruin lives. But when you meet the right person the heart that was once broken can begin to heal.

I read this as an ebook.

I WISH THIS BOOK WERE LONGER!!!!!!!!
I need to find out what happens when Evie's mom and Rhys meet for the first time; what happens to her relationship with her dad.

Do you hear me Emily Snow? I NEED MORE!!!!!

Seriously, what a wreck, but a good one. I couldn't figure out what was up or down during some parts of it. Part of me wished she had told Rhys who she was upfront and they worked through their relationship that way. Clearly, this way made for better writing.

I wanted to punch her dad. The end.

I recommend everyone read this and all Emily Snow books.

This book was just ok for me. It was a good premise based on the blurb and while there was nothing wrong with the story, I just didn't get the connection with the characters. It felt like Rhys was deliberately mysterious and the chemistry just didn't really work for me.

There's nothing wrong with the book and maybe I'm just in a slump, so try it for yourself.

I wish there was more to the book where evie can have some type of retaliation to the brother, I wanted to know more about lily as well.
