Gemma knows the only solution is to involve Sam’s old flame, the charismatic venture capitalist, Marcus Priestley. But Marcus is compelled to win Sam back, and he certainly won’t let the hired help muscle-in.
Verlaine is Gemma’s sexy mechanic, who’s trying to blag it as a chauffeur – but he’s so bad at tying his necktie, he looks like a stripper at a hen night. Working with Gemma’s vintage cars is his dream job, but things get complicated when he falls for the boss’s sister and sets himself up as rival to Marcus. Then the road trip adventure from London to Brighton begins!
Will Sam choose the penniless new love or the wealthy ex? And how will she tame the Bentley, to become the strong and powerful woman that she’s always known she could be?
A must read for fans of Jojo Moyes books and Richard Curtis films. Driving Me to You combines strong female characters, good-looking guys, and an uplifting ride towards freedom.
Enjoy the exciting romantic adventure of Driving Me to You!
I'm not usually a huge reader of romantic fiction I have to admit, but this excellent new book by Julie Farrell has certainly put that trend in reverse gear for me! I personally feel it has universal appeal with its themes of love, treachery & intrigue - all told in a beautifully-written & well-crafted story that's packed with feel-good humour, creativity, and not-to-mention a few twists & turns along the way on the (sometimes) bumpy road to romance!
An unexpected job opportunity for central character Verlaine as a chauffeur/mechanic in the first chapter sets off a whole sequence of events that builds to an exciting & unexpected double-climax (not wishing to give too much away here). Along the way we get to meet his colourful group of friends, learn some important truths about life, & enjoy the blossoming of his new relationship - which doesn't always go quite as smoothly as the Bentley car that's also central to the plot...
Julie has a unique writing style in my opinion, which really transports the reader to feel we're right there among the action of her finely-drawn characters. We really feel, see & experience everything they do, & Julie creates wonderfully inventive metaphors & word associations which delight the reader at every turn.
It's a very easy book to read, & one that will leave a lasting impression I'm sure. It's a finely-tuned & thoroughly entertaining work of fiction that's in showroom condition, & definitely worth a spin!

Driving Me to You is a heartwarming tale of love, family, and friendship. Samantha returns home to England after living in India as her sister, Gemma, is trying to save their family's vintage car interest. Samantha has no interest in helping as she is working on her own project. As you can imagine, this doesn't do much to help the relationship between the two sisters. Soon, Samantha meets the sexy mechanic, Verlaine, that Gemma has hired to help restore the cars, and they begin a secret relationship. Verlaine soon discovers something fishy going on with the business, and it may involve an old family friend. This is where the adventure begins!!!
Julie introduces us to a whole cast of quirky characters that we won't soon forget. I found myself wanting to hang out with them! I liked the fact that it was told from several different characters' points of view. I like to know what the characters are thinking and feeling; it adds to the story in my opinion. She also does a fabulous job of tying several plotlines together. The book moves seamlessly from one chapter to the next and really keeps your interest. I was sad to leave Verlaine, Samantha, and their friends. I certainly hope this isn't the last that we see of them. Do yourself a favor and give this book a read. I am glad I found this gem of a writer. I am looking forward to reading more from Julie!

A heartwarming tale of family, friendship and love. I recieved this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. When Samantha returns home to England from India. Just as her sister is trying to save the family's Vintage car interest. Samantha has her own project she is working on so she isn't interested in helping Gemma. Samantha soon meets Verlaine the mechanic Gemma hired to help restore the cars and they begin a relationship in secret. He soon discovers something weird is going on with the business and it may involve an old family friend this is were the intrigue begins. Julie writes a wonderful story full of treachery, intrigue and love. Along with some well crafted twists and turns along the road to romance.
This heart-warming story is based around only a few characters but trust me when I say with characters this full of life, you don't need many. Sam has just come back from India after being severely ill but it has changed how she views life and she has a lot of ideas on how to share this with others. Verlaine is down on his luck after being out of work for four months and has applied for his dream job - renovating classic cars. Gemma is struggling to keep the business her late father started afloat and has asked (but paying for) the help of an old friend, Marcus. Marcus is Sam's ex-boyfriend but he has decided that he will have her back, after all, who could resist him? And then you have Paul and Scott, a couple that definitely belong together, that complement each other and work well together. The one you don't hear much of is Jack, Verlaine's flat mate, who seems a bit grumpy but that is understandable as he is worried about where they will live if things don't work out between Verlaine and the boss' sister! So there are the characters, let the story commence.
This story is full of bumps and bends as Sam and Verlaine learn about each other, make friends with each other and the others in the small circle, and let the sparks fly between them. Sam is also trying to find a way of mending her relationship with Gemma, is it really broken beyond repair? The things you find out about Marcus will make your toes curl but I won't say whether that's in a good or bad way.
The thing that I love about Julie Farrell's stories is that although you have the main characters, you also get taken along on the side stories of the other characters. This makes the book simply a delight to read and they are never boring! They are realistic but not depressing. Julie's heroines have backbone, a sense of humour and wit, and yes, slightly kooky in a good way. Her hero's are not perfect, they have their flaws which just makes them more loveable.
If you are looking for a modern romance with a hint of suspense and mystery, then check out this book. I honestly can't see how you would be disappointed.
Wow, this was...not good. But I ended up finishing it because I'm stubborn like that, and it ended up being unintentionally amusing. Unfortunately, I don't think the author meant it to be.
Oh, the descriptions and the metaphors. So bad. Here's a small sample for your amusement:
"his heart was thumping like a meat pulveriser in his chest, and his thighs swirled with a cyanide gloom"
"passed them to Marcus, like a penguin passing an egg on the ice" --(this one was the most fun to picture in my head)
"her eyes sashayed across his cheekbones"
"his thighs felt as if they were filling with glitter" --(apparently this is a good thing)
"felt as gawky as a half-chewed toffee"
"let out an ejaculation-style whimper" --(this was in relief, and not of the sexual variety)
This is throughout the whole book! And the bad guy, wow that he over the top and ridiculous.
wow ... I'm not usually so far off from the herd on a book but I literally felt like I was reading a 13 year Ole's fan fiction. The writing wasn't really bad but the voice of all the characters was way too juvenile for the age of the person. I felt the main characters to be superficial and flacid. There are some scenes from the guy's best friend who happens to be gay. I didn't have any issues with this but I can see how many could... but frankly it bothers me that the author chose to give the first romantic scene to sub characters. That just seemed like a poor choice. Did not finish it... couldn't bring myself to finish it. Thankfully it was a free book... but this time I certainly got what I paid for.
Very few times have I ever failed to finish a book, but this was one of them. I don't believe the description of the book gave me a very clear understanding of what the book was actually going to be about. One reviewer here stated that there wasn't really much romance until the end of the book, but the rather explicit sex between two gay men earlier in the book was the point where I quit. It just wasn't all that good before then, so I saw no need to continue.
I made it a little over a third of the way through, but didn't finish. Most of the author's energy seemed to be devoted to extended M/M sex scenes for characters who didn't seem to have any other place in the plot. Not my cup of tea & not enough interest in the other characters or main plot to continue.
Sam and her sister were left with their father’s struggling car business. Unfortunately for Gemma, Sam doesn’t want any part of it. She doesn’t care about cars. She’s more interested in developing a new technology. The only way Gemma is going to get the financial backing she needs is to ask Sam’s old boyfriend, Marcus Priestly, for help.
Marcus is thinking he can not only help Gemma with the car business but also win Sam back by doing so. Unfortunately for Marcus, Gemma’s new mechanic and Sam have an instant connection and things are heating up quickly.
Verlaine is out of work, but hopefully not for long. He ends up getting a job as a mechanic for Sam’s sister. Gemma also wants him to be a chauffeur when she needs one. Sam quickly catches on that he is just winging it. She helps him get his chauffeuring skills down. The two quickly become hot for each other.
Sam has two men interested in her, she has cars all around her that she cares nothing about, and she has a dream of getting her new technology app started. There are many things coming her way and many things about to change.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
This is the first book in the London Loves series, but I think you can read it as a standalone book. It is well written and the characters are ones that you connect with rather fast. You will just have to love Verlaine. He just seems like your all around good guy. Sam is also one of those characters that you instantly like because of her personality. Then you had the characters that were written as for you not to too much car for. You have Sam’s sister, Gemma and Sam’s ex-boyfriend, Marcus. I was hoping that Marcus’ character wouldn’t have been so obvious as to him being pure evil, but you can pretty much tell from the beginning. I would have liked to have more of a mystery there. It would have pulled me in to the story more. Unfortunately, the characters were just a little too predictable.
There was definitely a story line to follow. I just thought it moved a little slow with the story line for me. I think it might be because of the other characters that popped in with story lines. Although I liked all the secondary characters as well, it just seemed to slow the main story down some.
I think for this to be Julie Farrell’s first series she did pretty well. I wouldn’t mind reading her books in the future.
Driving Me To You is an enjoyable romantic tale about family, friendship and love. Set in London, the readers follow the trials and tribulations of sisters Samantha and Gemma as they struggle to save their family's classic car business.
After the death of their father, younger sister Sam spent the last five months travelling in India, while Gemma tried to deal with the family's financial mess. Returning home to London, Sam briefly meets Verlaine, an American guy in a cafe, unbeknownst to her that Gemma will hire him as a chauffeur/mechanic for their family business. When Sam and Verlaine meet for the second time, they become friends and keep their budding relationship a secret. But when Gemma gets Marcus Priestley, a venture capitalist and Sam's ex-boyfriend, to invest in the family business, Sam and Verlaine's relationship becomes complicated and a rivalry ensues when Marcus becomes determined to win back Sam's heart. And if that isn't enough, strained family relations between Gemma and Sam, and underhanded dealings within the family business will provide enough intrigue and suspense that will easily keep the reader turning the pages.
Author Julie Farrell weaves an entertaining tale that is packed with humor, family drama, quirky friendships, adventure, suspenseful twists and turns, and a lighthearted romance. I really enjoyed the narration of the story from the various characters' points of view, it made the characters come to life, and in my opinion it made the story that much more entertaining and enjoyable. It is easy to get drawn into this multi-layered story: from Sam and Gemma working on their strained family relationship; to the love triangle between Sam, Verlaine and Marcus; to Verlaine's quirky group of friends; to the intrigue involving the family business; Driving Me To You is a fun contemporary romance novel that has a great mixture of humor, romance and suspense, what more could a reader ask for?
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book tour event hosted by Chick Lit Plus Blog Tours.
I enjoyed this book for many reasons. I liked that Driving Me To You was told from multiple points and not just the main character/characters. Instead we were able to get a bit more insight from the villain’s point of view as well as some of the side characters. Ms. Farrell did a wonderful job creating fun, unique, and likable characters! Verlaine, his friends, and Sam were all friendly, quirky, and interesting. They were characters who you’d want to hang out with and be friends with if you could. Even Gemma, who I didn’t care for in most of the book had redeemed herself by the end and I even liked her. That being said, Ms. Farrell was also able to create one of the best, most evil villainous character I have read about in a long time. It truly was shocking just how ruthless and heartless he wound up being, but because of that his character added a lot of conflict and drama to the story which I loved!
Driving Me To You was not your typical romance book. In fact, it wasn’t until the last part of the book before there really was any romance. Up until that point there had just been a lot of flirting. This book had a lot of action and adventure in it.
There was only one negative about this book that I could think of… (and honestly for a lot of people this wouldn’t even be a problem) However, for me because this story takes place in London there were a lot of terms and phrases that I didn’t really understand. Therefore, for me it was a bit hard to relate to the book at all times. I did appreciate that Verlaine was from Michigan and that did help to make it more relate able. But again I realize that would not even be an issue for a lot of people and it did not change the fact that I really enjoyed this book. It was an exciting, fun, and adventurous story!
I was given a copy of this book fir a honest review.
I have to say first of all I had a hard time reading this book. It's full of expression and slang used in the United Kingdom. I had to change the dictionary on my Kindle to English (UK) to know what quiet a few words meant and found I was having to read sentences all over again after finding out the meaning of the word I certainly got a U.K education.
This is a cute story though. I really liked Sam's character She's the exact opposite of her sister Gemma and there was certainly some hard feelings between the two. You also meet Verlaine who Gemma hires to be a mechanic to fix vintage cars for the girls late father's failing business Gemma is trying to save. Love at first tie tying between Sam and Verlaine. Their love story is cute and full of adventure. Marcus, Sam's ex is the villain He's nit likeable off the bat and made an excellent villain. Add in Jack, Verlaines housemate and best buddies Scott and Paul and you have comedy at the interactions and conversations between those two Plus I can honestly say Scott is a much better dresser than I am and he and Paul make the cutest couple.
I had a hard time getting into this story at first but not because it's a bad story. Like I said the language difference got to me. But once I settled in and had a few words down the story flowed well and then there's a huge suspense adventure toward the end This was my favorite part of the book. It had me very engrossed in the story and rooting for certain things to happen and it did not disappoint I'm moving on to the next book in the series next and look forward to reading it.
*I received an Advanced Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest review* Driving Me to You isn’t you’re typical romance novel. It's a well-written novel with action and a surprise twist ending. For a story set in a country that isn’t my own (England- I live in Australia), I found the characters to be interesting. One character in particular that I liked was Sam. She is witty at times (When a workman comments about women being terrible drivers regarding how she parked her car, she replies: “What a shame you weren’t crouching in front of it. The facial reconstruction surgery would have been such an improvement. You don’t have much luck with women, do you?”), and isn’t afraid to tell other people how she feels. It’s good to see a strong female protagonist featured in a romance novel, and to not have them completely dependent on a man. The character development is good and it is obvious that Sam’s adventures in India have changed her. She’s realistic enough that I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a real person. When I started reading this book, I expected it to be one of those slow paced chic-lit reads, but I was pleasantly surprised that the plot had some interesting elements to it. I’m not going to give away the ending, but I’ll say this: It was well worth reading all the pages that led up to it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in their teens or above, even if they aren’t big fans of romance.
*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*
This was a sweet romantic book with a twist of underhandedness and family resentments. The characters were well developed and most of them very likeable, at least the ones you're supposed to like. They all have very unique personalities and the way the come to together in perfect harmony makes this a very well written book.
Sam is a "half glass full" person whose view of the world is seen through her heart and not her eyes. She attempted to appreciate everyone around her for their contributions to her and their society and she'd do anything for those she loved.
Verlaine is an adorable man who does his best to get by in the world in which he lives, but it's not until he meets Sam that he truly lives.
My Favorite Couple: Scott and Paul. I love how they deal with the normal day to day things in life that drag us down, and yet they choose to stand together and overcome. They are also the kind of friends who would get up in the middle of the night to go pick you up when your car breaks down…or in this case demand to go with you on a hair-brained mission.
My Favorite Moment: Sam overhearing the mechanic talking about the Bentley. That seriously made me laugh out loud.
I was given a copy for an honest review.....I loved it! 4.5 stars Sam has returned from India, after illness, to the family home. her father recently died and left Gemma, her sister, charge of his classic car collection. Verlaine is the mechanic Gemma hires to restore said cars. Marcus is the sleeze ball trying to get back with Sam, and take over Gemma's cars for his own not-so-nice reasons, that you'll discover. we also have Scott and Paul, a couple, Verlaine's best friends and Jack, Verlaine's room mate.
after Sam and Verlaine find out what Marcus might be up to, there follows a race against time, against Gemma (who is not listening!) and against the attraction between each other! neither is prepared to admit they have fallen for each other and it takes a brush with a fist or two for them both to admit their feelings!
I will admit, I did enjoy this one, much more than Ruby in the Dust. the characters seem more normal, for want of a better word. there are normal every day issues, unemployment, bills need paying, that sort of thing.
the secondary characters are great fun, and have their own issues, and we get to follow them too, which I enjoyed.
I couldn't quite stretch to 5 stars, although Marcus was a nasty piece of work, I didn't like his comeuppance.
*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*
It was a heartwarming story of family, friendship and love.
When Sam - just returned home from India- accidentally bumps into Verlaine (her sister’s sexy mechanic) she instantly falls for him. Sam is a full heart person, maybe a little dreamer for me, and her sister, is a totally opposit,Gemma, who is trying to save their family's vintage car interest.
Gemma needs help, and she turns to Marcus (her sister's ex)who willing to help, and wants to win Sam back.
For Verlaine (the sexy mechanic- I really love this nickname :) working with Gemma’s vintage cars is his dream job, but things get complicated when he falls for the boss’s sister and sets himself up as rival to Marcus.
Will Sam choose the penniless new love or the wealthy ex?
I really loved the story, and it was intresting to know different perspective of the story. Also loved the way how Julie has written it because I could see and experience everything they did. It was an easy reading. It 4 stars for me, because it's not my usual romance story, it's rather about the circumstances - you only have this feeling in the end.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The first half of this book I thought was quite interesting. There was a good cast of characters and a fast-moving plot, but the second half I didn’t love quite as much. Fast-paced is always good for me, but the ending especially seemed quite rushed. There was also an odd plot twist that didn’t seem to fit with the overall theme of the story, and things got quite violent and didn’t make much sense to me. I enjoyed the dynamic between the two sisters (being a sister myself) but I didn’t think other relationships needed to be highlighted as much as they were. If the focus stayed on Gemma more I think it could have been a lot more interesting and easier to follow.
I was given Driving Me To You for exchange of an honest review.
I’m so glad Julie found me, I loved this book!
I easily got into the story, and became close with Sam and her sister Gemma, and all the interesting characters you will meet in this heart warming, heart pounding book.
Julie Farrell’s writing pulls you in from page one, and you won’t want to let go until the end. I really enjoyed this book, everything tied together perfectly, and I honestly can’t think of one thing I didn’t like. I mean come one, who can’t love a sexy mechanic!
I recommend Driving Me To You to the romance lovers like myself:)
Driving me to you is a romance with a fresh storyline. Sam is a dreamer who has returned from India and wants to create a new app. Verlaine is out of work and finds his dream job as a mechanic working on collector cars. Their romance does a slow burn as they intermingle with the other characters in the story. Scott and Paul have an open gay relationship which has its own romantic problems and I enjoyed the way Julie wrote them into the book. Bring on the danger element of Marcus and the girl with a huge chip on her shoulder, Sam's sister and fireworks will happen. More than one romance shines through despite tragedy happening, making this book an enjoyable read.
What an unexpected find! This is the first book I've read from Julie and though it was a bit long it kept my interest. I loved the characters especially Scott. The four friends made a good team playing off each other. Sam was a bit flacky but that added to her character. Verlaine was funny when he talked to himself. I hated Marcus although the end was a bit tough even though he was the villain. Gemma played the perfect witch "B" but I was happy to see her come around since I don't think she was really far to Sam. All and all I would recommend this book and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I loved it! I loved how Farrell described things in her book. They were original and fresh and sometimes funny.
This book was part romance, part chick lit, and part suspense. What do you do when you are recovering from a trip to India, mourning your father, living with your tough bigger sister, and have just fallen in love with the mechanic your sister hired? Oh, and the big app project you've been working on just got stolen by your ex-boyfriend who is also your sister's financial backer. Mess with him, you're messing with your angry sister. Oh boy!
A fun read that will sweep you away and pull you through all the emotions!
I read the series backwards but still loved it. I loved how Sam and V came to be, the book kept me entertained and wondering what would happen next. I enjoyed knowing Sam has a sister Gemma even though there is tension between them. I hated Marcus and how evil he was, I wanted to slap him for being so cruel and trying to mess with Sam. He tried his best and is a very bad person. So glad he's gone. I loved how I learned about Paul and Scott's relationship and to see how sweet they are to each other, they have a gorgeous relationship though it does need some work. This book made me smile, it made me a little scared, it has action, romance. It has a great story line.
Reader beware! This book sizzles! Ms Farrell has put together a story that is not only a love story, but is also a suspense story. The characters are strong, perhaps even a little bit caricatures of good and evil, straight and gay. This particular book doesn't actually have a lot of descriptive sex, but the sex that happens, is intense. What it does have is suspense. I spent a good bit of time nervously wondering IF the good guys (who ever they might end up being), would arrive in time. There is also some very graphic violence. Everything fits perfectly into the story. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and impartial review.
This book was not the best book I've ever read, but that's because it's not my type. I was totally expecting something different, but we all have our opinions. I feel like the chatracters just weren't "good enough" for me. Sam was fun, but just really not my favorite heroine and Verlaine was really cute and sweet, but I really don't like books where the two characters fall in love within like two minutes of meeting each otherl. Overall, it was an okay read. If you're looking for lots of laughs, people with British accents, and a bit of romance, then this is your kind of book.
I really enjoyed this book. The plot twists were great and I liked how the characters evolved. I liked that Gemma was bitter and mean towards her sister Sam in the beginning but then towards the end she realized what was really important. Loved Verlaine and all his mechanic yumminess to! And Paul and Scott were awesome supporting characters. I liked the action, intrigue, and adventure as well as the romance. All around it was a recommend worthy book I think.
* * * obsessed by books arc given for an honest review * * * a great read. we are introduced to some great characters in this book. Sam is back and is wanting to fix things with her sister Gimme even though they want different things and look at life differently. Sam meets sexy mechanic Verlaine and sparks fly, but of they have their ups and downs. this was an easy read. hope this isn't the end to Sam and Verlaine.
I was given this book by the author for review and I'll say at once that I do not normally read romance novels.
Being objective as possible I will say that this story is well written with realistic characters, with a plot that involves the human heart and all its frailties.
I don't give spoilers but for those who enjoy romance stories this one should be for you.
