Special agent Jelina Kohl just can’t catch a break. It seems that everyone wants her dead. Or do they? Killed in a bomb blast, and brought back, she now has something everyone wants. Will she survive long enough to find out what that is?
I have lived from one end of Canada to the other, and done everything from waiting tables on the trains between Halifax and Montreal, to working as a physician. Currently, when not writing, I work as a GP Psychotherapist at the student health clinic at my local university.
Writing was a passion for me prior to medical school, but got lost in the crush of school, then residency, setting up my own practice and raising a family. I'm thrilled to have returned to my first love, and hope that you will take enjoyment in reading what I have written.
Imagine a world where everyone has an implant that tracks your whereabouts. A world where your life is mapped out for you before it really starts. Jelina Kohler is a special agent who is part of a team searching out a resistance to this new way of the world but when an explosion wipes out her team her world is completely turned upside down, but can she survive and figure out what she is truly meant to be?
This book is a brilliant read and although it is a short story it delivers so much to the reader. I really do hope Dascha Paylor will return to this story and build on it as I really do have hugely high hopes for this becoming something of a series.
Okay - I liked it. I am not a big fan of short stories; however, when an author that I read recommended that I read this short story I thought I would take a flyer. I was surprised at how quickly I became involved in the plot and enjoyed the principal character very much. The story actually captured me quickly and I knew I was going to be unhappy that this was in fact a short story. Briefly, it is a story about a future society that is totally controlled by government with of course the inevitable resistance. The heroine was trained and raised to fight within the government but as fate would have was given a chance to leave that life and find a different future. I won't go further but I do suggest you read it. It is a short story but a great one and it has just made me want to see a full-length book from this author.
