Reader. Author. Book Hoarder. I’m asexual. I believe in human rights. That means BIPOC and LGBT+ people matter and deserve respect and protection. Trans people exist and they deserve every right given to cis people. I believe Palestine should be free and that what is happening to them is genocide. Books are political and if you don’t like hearing that, then you’re likely on the wrong side of history. Sit in your discomfort. Banning books is barbaric and pointless. Strict gun laws save lives. Amplify important and minority voices. Keep reading. Keep learning. Keep trying to do better.

I only have facebook (which I rarely use) and instagram (which I use only slightly more). Any other social media platforms with me on them are impostors.

Taken By Force is book two in the Taken Trilogy by Jessica Frances. This book starts up eight months after the first book stopped. It’s getting close to Christmas and we get a glimpse into all of our character’s lives, both past memories of this time of year, and what they are currently going through while being separated. This entire book takes place between about December 8 and February 20.

Zoe isn’t doing very well. She’s angry, just so angry. She has suffered being away from Charlie and allowed herself to slowly slip into depression. She’s not eating, not exercising and not taking care of herself at all. On top of that, she hates that she got stuck with Joel. She has not forgiven him for shooting her best friend, Dana. In fact, she hates him even more for it. And she is still grieving for Dana. She hasn’t moved forward at all in letting the death of her best friend go.

Charlie is doing equally bad. He is constantly overwhelmed with the need to try to contact Zoe and also, his father. He knows he can’t so he drinks…a lot.

“Charlie drank poison to drown his sorrows and I starved myself as punishment. The only difference is that Charlie’s ended in him making a mistake.”

Will is doing pretty well considering his previous life on the streets. He has a job, a friend, and a decent place to sleep.

Rose is doing the best of everyone. She has a good job, a nice apartment, and she is in love. Again, Rose has impressed me with her strategical thinking. She has made plans, just in case things go badly. And those plans do end up being very important.

Zoe hasn’t dreamed in a long time but that soon changes. She has a future dream that P.A.G.E. has found Will and he is being attacked. She knows he needs to be warned but since each of them only know where one person is, she has to go to Rose.

Slowly, these characters all find their way back together and are reunited. They come together in a cabin far out in the woods belonging to the family of Rose’s boyfriend. This becomes their safe house for the time being. They spend several weeks here getting reacquainted, spending both Christmas and New Years. They also get healthy. They work out, run in the woods, and train. They know their time here is limited and that soon, they are going to have to re-emerge and fight against their captors from P.A.G.E. if they ever want to regain normal lives again.

They develop a plan but of course, things don’t go the way they are supposed to. Stan and Martha, their captors from book one, show us more than ever, how truly evil they are. And there are others out there that have gifts as well. But Stan and Martha have managed to convince the others that they are working for a patriotic cause, something Zoe and her friends know not to be true.

I love the way Rose and Will have changed. Will is growing stronger and maturing. Rose, well, she is still my favorite. Her quick thinking and computer hacking skills save the day more times than I can count. And we have a new character enter back into the scene, someone we thought was out of the picture from the first book.

What these kids have to go through is crazy, but they have united as a group, as a sort of family. They have each other’s backs no matter what. They are beaten, chased, and shot at, but they keep on going.

Will they ever be able to take down Stan, Martha, and the P.A.G.E. organization? Or will they be forced to work for them and let their individual gifts be exploited for whatever their evil cause is? I can’t wait to see how this all turns out in the final book, Taken By Choice. Thank you so much to Jessica Frances for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.

Riveting and intense

This story is intense, and powerful. Scary power abuse, and inspiring individuals who fight. Facing danger and unknowns, they risk everything to save one another - because what other choice do they have? Action packed with a good pace and high tension, this story wraps up with another cliff hanger.

The chase continues:

I really enjoyed this second novel from the ‘Taken’ series. I tend to avoid reading books from the same series back-to-back for fear of losing interest, but ‘Taken by Force’ certainly didn’t have this affect on me and I once again couldn’t put it down.

Jessica Frances follows the same style as her previous book, whereby the first part of the story is narrated from four different perspectives as we catch up on their lives. I liked this because it meant that readers don’t miss out on any back story that has come from eight months passed from the end of the first book. Frances cleverly links the narratives together seamlessly so when it does move back to Zoe, it does not come across as a sudden jump.

Like in the first story, I found Zoe’s emotional instability a little irritating and wished she was a bit of a tougher character. However, the connection she has with Charlie remains sweet and I loved how protective he was over her. Indeed, the group dynamics do develop in this story so that they are like a family to one another, but I did find myself wanting a little more focus to go on Joel and his actions.

Readers are introduced to more characters who have special abilities and the glimpse we are provided with left me wanting more. I am sure they will play a bigger part in the final story and hope that all of these characters really have the opportunity to show off their abilities.

The plot continued to have many exciting twist and turns along the way which kept the pace up throughout. It didn’t take me long to read this book because I was enjoying it so much and wanted to find out what happened to the central characters. Despite this, I hope that the final book has more progress for the characters and what their goal is. As I mentioned in my review of the first book, this plot reminded me of a television series and I think to truly become an excellent read, the author needs to have a bit more action from the characters as they fight for their freedom.

I enjoyed the chase that continues in ‘Taken by Force’ and was not disappointed by this second book. I am really looking forward to reading the concluding story and am keen to know what happens next to the characters.

My Review
5 Roses

The prequel to this book, Taken By Surprise, introduced us to the main group in this series: Zoe, Charlie, Rose, and Will. These four young people are unique, with special abilities they've tried their best to hide from the world. We were also introduced to P.A.G.E., the rouge government organization with the goal of bringing about yet another war, using super-humans to fight their battles. We also met Joel, who was used as a puppet to commit a crime that lead to his torture. All five have something else in common: they were captured, they escaped, and they went into hiding.

They had plans to regroup after a year, hoping P.A.G.E. wouldn't be able to find them, and they'd be off the radar. They were wrong. Taken By Force picks up 8 months after the group split up and went into hiding. Forced to choose between "fight" or "flight" they face capture again, and do everything they can to survive. We learn more about each character, and meet several other characters. One in particular, who was a surprise from the last book.

This series is a non-stop adventure, that will leave you on the edge of your seat, wringing your hands at the suspense and emotion. This is an amazing story, and I cant wait to read the third book in the trilogy, Taken By Choice. Jessica Frances is an amazing writer, and I would recommend her books to anyone.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Taken by Force picks up eight months from where Taken by Surprise leaves off. While I think someone could read book two without reading book one and not have a problem, I wouldn't recommend it. Book one really builds up the relationships and Book two just wouldn't be the same without that.

There was a lot to like about this book. There is lots of action and suspense. It's all written very well just like book one. I was really glad to see Zoe begin to take responsibility for herself and rely on her own strength toward the end of this story. I liked that the team got a little down time and a moment to relax before it all hit the fan. I liked reading about all the characters' childhoods and Christmas experiences. It made it a great holiday read.

There was some I didn't like. There was no success for the characters in this book. Even when they "won" there was an undertone of depression. I get that. War is not pretty. But I would have liked to see a little victory so that I could cheer for my team! And it would have made the losses that more potent. I also wish there was more timey wimey stuff in this one like the last book. While there appeared to be NONE, I have a feeling I might be eating my words in the next book.At least I hope so!

The build up to the action was really slow, but I'm totally cool with that. It allowed me to really relate to the characters. Readers just need to know that and not give up. There is payoff! This story has some mild language and lots of steamy scenes so I would recommend it for 17+.

All in all, it is an excellent continuation of the Taken series and I'm chomping at the bit to get the next installment!

I'm really taken with this series. The group separated as they fled from P.A.G.E. and that was several months ago. Zoe is counting down the time until she and Charlie will be back together. Living with Joel isn't ideal and she isn't doing well, but she has that one year mark to look forward to. That is until she drams that Will is in danger. Now the four of them must band back together to survive.
I still love these characters. I absolutely hate what they did to Blake. That wasn't fair to anyone. Charlie and Zoe have terrible issues with being apart. Will is such a sweetheart and I can see him being the little brother in all of this. Rose is the bossy older sister that you just gotta love. Joel is the wildcard. You dislike what he did and don't want to forgive him but at the same time it wasn't something he was planning to do. I liked the story, it flowed well and didn't get bogged down with a big mess. I really cannot wait for the next one!
I rate this a 5/5. If you've read Taken by Surprise this is a must. If you haven't, it is a good series :)

Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Holy smokes! With all the twists and turns in this book, I am exhausted! In Book one, Taken by Surprise, we were introduced to Zoe, Charlie, Rose and Will. These four individuals each have a special ability that has attracted the attention of the P.A.G.E, a government agency that wants to use them to fight in a war. The four were captured, eventually escaped and went into hiding, planning to regroup in a year. In Book two, Taken by Force, it is now eight months later and some of the individuals have been discovered. Because of this, they regroup and go on the run again to prepare to fight for their freedom and their lives!

This action-packed novel will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat, so hold on……it’s a crazy ride! Ms. Frances has totally outdone herself with this series and I can’t wait for the final installment of this trilogy to come out so I can find out what happens!

Taken By Force, the follow up to "Taken By Surprise", continues the story of Zoe, Rose, Willie and Charlie, the super-enhanced heroes of the saga. In this book, we, the reader, are given a bit more background on our protagonists, which assists in gaining understanding of direction and background. Our heroes have escaped the evil clutches of Stan and his nefarious team, they have struck out on their own in an attempt to rid themselves of a mysterious and haunting future they might have had if their pursuers had had their way.
This is a great story, an entertaining read, and an artfully conceived concept. Curl up with this gloriously imaginative story and give vent to tale telling the way it was meant to be!

In the book 2 the reader picks up re-visiting the characters Zoe, Willie, Charlie and Rose.
They now live separately, but because of a "revelation", they will need to join again. What has its good side - the story is wonderful with them together because of their differences - but it has its bad side - exactly those differences meant that the reader end up choosing one side over the other.
Anyway the adventure continues.

As this is a trilogy sometimes gives the impression of something missing in the plot, because this is a book of transition.
But make no mistake, reading this is super important for the outcome.

And get ready for the carousel of emotions throughout the reading. Many twists happen. And the story is a little spicier...
