Prison Break is a brief glimpse into the life of Natalia Varela, a twenty-five year old Argentina native. She's married to Mateo, a political figure, but is dissatisfied with their two year marriage due to a lack of excitement in the bedroom. This dissatisfaction takes her on an adventure with some very surprising twists that made the reading more enjoyable, because I didn't expect them. As I read, I thought it might be leading to a predictable end, but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't.

I'm a little out of my element here, as erotica is not something I would normally read. I found it a little difficult to review this based on my enjoyment of the story, because I thought the protagonist was a bit selfish and shallow, maybe because of her pre-occupation with sex. Any time I don't buy into a character from the start, it's harder to enjoy the book. But despite that, I thought it was a well written story. (I don't have anything against sex...just thought the main character was a little overly obsessed..yet that may just be a normal thing in this genre?)

That being said, since I'm reviewing this as a professional, not just a reader, I will review it based on the more technical aspects of writing. I use a 10-category system, rating things like characters, pace, dialogue, etc.

My 10-category rating averaged out to a 3.6 (rounded to four stars). It's clearly marked as a novelette, yet somehow I missed that and was surprised when it ended so quickly. But I think the author has written an interesting story that will appeal to erotica readers. The pacing is good; it kept me turning pages. The narrative voice is strong and consistent. And the story arc is nicely crafted.

I did feel like I was at a bit of a disadvantage, as this is seemingly part of a larger story that I haven't read. I took off some points for the character development because both Natalia and Mateo seemed to shift their personalities drastically, at times. For example, Mateo appeared to completely change his personality with one phone call. I thought this was extremely odd. Yet, this is where I was thinking maybe there was more that I didn't know about him from the book that this was inspired by? The characters probably would have made a bit more sense to me if I had read that book as well.

Overall, if you are a reader who enjoys erotica, I think you will be pleased by this short story and I'm guessing you would enjoy Ms. Onyx's full length novels. If you don't enjoy the genre, I doubt this novelette will make you a convert.

Although I liked the story and characters, one gets to feel the emptiness the main character(Natalia) feels. I have to give it four stars. Wanted to do a 4.5 but was unable. I felt at a disadvantage because I felt I was thrown in the middle of a scene where I didn't have clue what was going on the mind of the other characters. I know this is a novelette and the whole series is coming out later in the year. Which Yes I plan to purchase. I did not enjoy the ending,if with one orgasm she is willing to go back to duty, instead of pursuing her life and truly break out of prison. Then she would deserve a less than fulfilling life. If based on organism I would have been called Elizabeth Taylor who married the men she had sex with.

As a short story, I believe the author did a good job in wetting our appetite to find out more about this love triangle. I'm hoping she gets back with her true love or at least continues to Perdue Her life, not dictated by her father or husband.

When is the series coming out?

Prison Break was short and sweet. I liked the fact that the author got to the point, and didn't burden this short little gem with a bunch of minute details. I also liked that there was one great love scene. Since this was a short story, I would have hated to be bogged down with so many of them. It was great that the author took her time to make you feel the one scene.

Another reason why I liked this story was that even though it was an adult themed story, the love scene was not too graphic. I do love a great adult themed scene, but too many details about how they are making love can make it gross or uncomfortable (and it takes a lot to make me uncomfortable.)

Great job. I'm pretty sure the other stories in this series are just as fun.

'Prison Break' and 'Prison Bait' are the first two parts of a wonderful story which will conclude later with a third installment. The first novella has a very unexpected twist at the end, that is wonderful--totally unexpected. That is all I will say.

The first book left me dissatisfied. I needed more, which I did find in the second novella. The books are set in a politically unstable Argentina. Natalia and Mateo have been married for two years, and Mateo is a politician of the people. Mateo is arrested and put in prison so he cannot push through a tax reform bill. This is a regular practice at that time--politicians revolving the prison doors, depending on who is in power at the time.

Mateo has been a decent husband and a good friend to Natalia, but he has never satisfied her in bed. He despises the machismo attitude so prevalent in their society. Because of this, he has been very vanilla, missionary position in sex. Natalia has never had an orgasm with him. She has faked it many times, but their sex life is in the toilet. He thinks she does not love him, but has no idea she wants a dominant man in the bedroom. He pushes her to have children in hopes that will keep her with him.

When he is put in prison, she can stand it no longer, and sneaks off from Mateo's bodyguards and heads to the US in hopes of rekindling a relationship with her ex-fiancee. This is a very dismal failure. Someone (wonder who) lets Mateo know where she is and sends his men for her. But when they find her something wonderful happens and she happily, voluntarily returns home.

Mateo discovers Natalia craves for a dominant/sub relationship, which she had with her ex. The only contact the two have is phone conversations depending on which guard is on duty. You will really enjoy how their relationship changes and grows while he is in prison and especially when he is released. They both learn how to develop a very satisfying D/s loving relationship. I really enjoy this level of BDSM, which does not involve sadism. My BDSM stories have Heroes and Heroines that overcome their demons into a caring, loving relationship without sadism. This is one reason I love Jade's couples! Her stories are romantically erotic!

Natalia will pull at your heart strings, but don't be fooled by what she does. There are many twist and turns in this story. Ups and downs in this marriage. Natalia's state of mind is unpredictable and very crazy! She is at times one of those that you just want to reach out to and smack! You know...Like the old telephone commercial... Reach out and touch someone!

Keep in mind that this is a novelette to give you a good feel of the series that is in the works.. As a novelette I believe that the author did a well job on giving you a taste as to what is to come.

It started off okay and I felt sorry for the main character. But as soon as she got to the states she turned into super bitch. What she did to her ex n the way her mind worked was crazy. And not in a good way. Plus I don't get how phone sex can make you realise you love someone you was willing to cheat on and leave for dust.
I will say this short story gives insight into the next one that is coming up. I give it 2stars.
