Dragonslayer

Dragonslayer Stories: Two Short Stories

Rate this book
Years before Resa Nelson wrote her 4-book Dragonslayer series (The Dragonslayer’s Sword, The Iron Maiden, The Stone of Darkness, and The Dragon’s Egg), she wrote two short stories that were published in Science Fiction Age magazine.

In The Dragonslayer’s Sword, Astrid the blacksmith struggles to choose between protecting herself from a new dragonslayer’s unwelcome advances and the necessity of keeping his weapons in good shape so he can protect her village from dragons. Her fellow villagers believe the previous dragonslayer has been killed by a dragon, but Astrid knows the real reason he’s gone missing and this knowledge haunts her.

In The Silver Shoes, Astrid is surprised by a visit from Lenore, a newcomer who acts as if the village’s customs and laws don’t apply to her, leaving her friendless. But when asking Astrid to make a pair of silver shoes for her, Lenore reveals her disturbing past and the true meaning of her request for these shoes.

(Appropriate for adults and teens, ages 14 and up.)

These two short stories are the first pieces I have read written by this author, and if the full series is even half as good as this, then I am gonna devour it! Each of these stories was vibrant and full of life and detail, they both painted beautiful images in my head and left me wanting more! Astrid is intriguing and complex. And the idea that a person can physically change their appearance or have it changed by someone else, depending on the strength of one's belief is a fascinating one. I am looking forward to reading much much more of this series!!!

Two short stories make up this book, about a female blacksmith. The people of her land can change bodyshape slightly, just enough to suit them for a task, or to take on the appearance someone would like them to have. Read and be amused and entranced. A dragonslayer, a sword, a woman who could not stop dancing… and personal growth, acceptance of others as they are; the best ingredients make up this feast.

This is my very first Resa Nelson book.
What a delightful find. I immediately took to the main character Astrid and the concept of being able to change your shape to suit your needs. Think everyone can relate to that. Although they were 2 short stories I thoroughly enjoyed them and look forward to reading more.

I have found my new favorite author

This is a fantastic new series. I truly loved the story of the red dancing shoes. It makes you wonder what you would sacrifice for a little bit of happiness? Would you truly be willing to sacrifice the ultimate thing? I have to read the next book.. I am hooked!!

Two incredibly entertaining short stories in one book, what more could a person ask for in a dragonslayer's world? I enjoyed both and recommend the this book to anyone with an imagination or a desire to have one.

Great "Taste" Of a Larger Series

Like a sampling of a much, much larger series of books. Also with a neat origin story to how author Resa Nelson started writing one of the greatest fantasy , adventure series going.

Two well written short stories which setup the background for the Dragonslayer series. The introduction to the characters tells us a lot about them and what makes them tick.

Some good fantasy that allow you to actually think about what it means in your world.

short but powerful

These two short stories are a great introduction to the Dragonslayer’s series. The magic is inventive and the message underlying the story is as impactful as the story itself.

Very good! These two stories kept my attention and had me turning pages faster than other books. The book is well written and perfect for me because I enjoy dragons in my books. The second story was excellent because it shows that we should focus on doing what makes us happy.

Great stories. I had to finish these stories without putting down the book. I needed to find out what happened before I could stop reading. Being short, this was easily done.

Lovely, thought provoking tales of wonder. How much do your own perceptions shape you?

These two short stories offer a view of an intriguing world - where dragons live and people can change their bodies, but vow they don't believe in magic. I like this writer voice and style.

Interesting snipettes. Makes you want to continue the stories. Defiantly was able to shift myself into the situations the charactores found thsmselves in. I felt to weak to lift a sword or felt my feet twitch like they wanted to dance. I find this author is very good at what She does. I hope to read many more stories and series of them for a very long time.

Excellent book

Excellent story!! Not at ALL what I was expecting. I don't know what would be considered since I've never read a Dragonslayer book, but the stories are short, can be read in one seating even for casual readers... And of course, they are excellent.
