There aren't enough adjectives to describe this fun, flirty, humorous, romantic (well, you get the idea) and totally entertaining read. I have just adored every book I have read by Cindi Madsen. Her writing style and development of characters is just magical. If Cindi writes it, I'm reading it!

Dakota, a wedding planner in Las Vegas and advice columnist, has just been stood up at the altar by her fiancé. A few days later, she runs into her childhood best friend, Brendan, who recently moved back to Vegas to work security for one of the casinos. They haven't seen each other since they were thirteen years old and Dakota could hardly believe her scrawny friend had turned into such a yummy male specimen! He came back into her life at just the right time to help her through a rough patch of being jilted on her wedding day. This was such a sweet romantic read that had me smiling and laughing throughout, and I found it impossible to put down.

4.45 stars- if I get it on audio it might jump to a 4.8
Sweet, romantic, humorous, frustrating, heartbreaking, pulse thumping, sexy, childhood love, and an adorable dog ? What else could you ask for in a contemporary romance ? I loved it. It was a stay up all night to finish it read and left me with smile in my dreams. I loved the characters, even the less than wonderful people were a pleasure to meet. The two main characters were so dang adorable with their history and new relationship misfires I couldn't have cheered more for them. Fantastic fun, happy hearts and sweet endings.

After hearing so many wonderful things about Madsen's Cinderella Screwed Me Over, I am ashamed to say I have not had a chance to read that one. When Ready to Wed popped up on my radar to review, I knew I had to dip my toes into this authors writing and I came out glad that I have.

Ready to Wed is a heart-warming romance about Dakota Halifax, a Las Vegas wedding planner who ends up down on her luck when her fiancé leaves her jilted at the altar and suddenly her jobs feels like a nightmare. Because there is nothing worse than planning other people's happy days after her's crashes and burns so badly, leaving her hurt and hating anything to do with weddings.

When her childhood best friend Brendan shows up looking for her, things start to slowly turn around for Dakota once again.

Sweet story, I really enjoyed it. Madsen's characters were very engaging and entertaining. I found it easy to lose myself in the story and everything Dakota had gone through. The story line was fun and definitely something different from what I have read recently, which left it very refreshing. I enjoyed the writing and found it easy to connect to both of the characters.

I liked both Dakota and Brendan, the only thing I struggled with at the beginning is it seemed like the attraction at first was very one-sided. I was glad when things picked up and finally started clicking. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I got a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

3.5 - "Can you believe I'm getting married today?" Stars!

Ready to Wed is my first book from Cindi Madsen, and if you are looking for something hugely entertaining, easy going and filled with a wealth of likeable and relatable characters, then this is the book for you.

It was like sitting down to read one of your favourite rom-com movies, you know the type I am talking about, it’s all good clean fun, the drama isn’t too heavy, and you have the good, that bad and the ugly in terms of the cast.

Men are like puppies... you will get attached, bring them home, and they will shit all over everything you love. ~ Anonymous

When you work as a professional wedding planner to Las Vegas’s elite as well as write your own newspaper column Get Ready to Wed in the towns newspaper, the last thing you want to experience on your own wedding day is being stood up at the altar, or on the beach in Dakota’s case.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens for Dakota Halifax, add to the fact your fiancé has been less than honest with you about a few things, and your long lost (and now extremely hot) best-guy-friend has returned to town and you have a whole lot of problems, instead of your happily ever after!

He smelled like sunshine and dude, with a side of take-me-now.

I absolutely adored Brendan, and even though he stood her up at the altar, I didn’t really mind Grant either. Don’t worry if you are thinking love-triangle as it really isn’t written that way. This is a book low on angst and high on life. Dakota does have a few upsets, but everything is dealt with in a pretty upbeat way, from Anger Management classes, brides-to-be with Hair-don'ts, interfering almost mother-in-laws and bitchy gossip columnists with grudges, she manages to negotiate them in her sometimes clumsy but usually pretty cheery way.

The only question - who will she choose...

”I’ve loved you one way or another since the first day we met, Dakota Jane Halifax, and I’ll keep doing it, no matter what happens.”

If you are looking for feel-good, laugh out loud, entertaining story, Ready to Wed is definitely a book you are going to enjoy. It kept me entertained, it made me smile and it had that all important ‘ahh’ factor. A definite winner from Cindi Madsen in my opinion!

My English review

This darling book had me goofy-smiling so-oh many times! At the same time, I didn't expect to feel as emotionally connected to Dakota and her journey. Oh, and Brendan...complete swoon-worthy babe! For someone who isn't "into" weddings, I nonetheless adored the frilly and lacy world Ms Madsen created.

I've read enough of Cindi Madsen's books to know that it's highly likely I won't be disappointed.

Ready to Wed didn't. Dakota Halifax's fiancé, Grant, has jilted her at the alter. To add insult to injury she's a wedding planner and writes a nuptial related newspaper column. Independent, funny and feisty she's no wallflower however she's lost her faith in love and no one can blame her being cheesed off having being left at the alter, homeless and a little allergic to her job. But when her childhood best friend Brendan returns home, well he's all grown up. And bang on cue, Grant plays his hand and declares he wants her back.

description

Now if I'm being honest, I am not a fan of triangles of the love shaped variety. I get frustrated and stressed out as even though I don't want to, I can't help feeling sorry for the underdog…

description

…and yes, I admit, I felt sorry for Grant. For about 30 seconds as that's not really where the focus of the story lies. And Brendan is a sweetheart. A funny, kind, laid-back, non-pushy, level-headed guy who commanded the swoons. His chemistry with Dakota was natural, fun, easy and sexy but the question is can she cross the line with the man who asked her to marry him when they were nine.

Fun, quirky, romantic and sweet, Cindi Madsen has brought us a fabulous light romantic story ideal for laying prone by the pool reading or in my case the garden with wine and neighbours who probably think they've moved next door to some weird sighing and laughing idiot. I was expecting more of a build up to the ending, but nevertheless I loved it and if you fancy a read that would make a perfect chick-flick/rom-com, then this is exactly that.

4 stars — This one was much closer to women’s fiction than I usually read, but I really enjoyed watching Dakota grow on her journey after being jilted. My heart ached right from the prologue, I could just picture her on that beach with all the tourists walking by her. I wanted to cry.

She was an intriguing character, b/c she had this “must not show emotions” thing going on, meanwhile she’s going through something really painful. It was interesting how it ended up being the final straw and had her dealing with a lot of things she never dealt with before. I appreciated all the little things that she went through on her journey, from losing her verve for weddings (losing the hopefulness, the joy, the faith in love), to her anger management classes (that while she was totally opposed to, really ended up doing some good…and damn, I loved her odd friendship with Wild Bill). She had a lot of very weird dynamics going on in her life, between her need for control with her wedding planning business, to dealing with split parents who both seemed a bit out of touch, to a very interesting BFF who provided some good advice, but was also so drastically different that it didn’t always work. And all the while she’s trying to figure out how to move on from Grant, or if she wants to. Her struggles in the romance department were very real and I could really see how someone would move through all of those emotions. Even as I wanted to rail at her for giving Grant a try, I understood why she was sucked in, why she was confused, all that stuff…you know? I liked that while it wasn’t right, it wasn’t that she didn’t love him at all…she just didn’t show him her whole self.

It was the same with Brendan. That relationship had my tummy feeling ill sometimes because I was so worried that it was going to get fucked up, but they just ended up going through those bumps, and I got it, but I appreciated that nothing got blown too out of proportion. They had stumbling blocks, but nothing unreasonable and nothing they couldn’t overcome.

And OMG, while the romance was a bit of a side plot, the two of them together were just adorable and I really felt their chemistry, from friendship to more! I wanted them to work so desperately. I loved seeing Dakota have someone she could be her whole self with, because those are the kinds of loves that I love the most. They were best friends and then more. And holy cow did I get tummy tingles and butterflies from their relationship!! Brendan made me swoon! Sometimes I wish I understood why he was so against relationships before, and then changed now, but whatever…it was more Dakota’s story anyways.

I enjoyed how the articles she wrote ended up playing out in the narrative afterwards…usually just in the background, but I appreciated how that all tied in.

All in all a totally cute read that left me feeling swoony and happy.

RATING: 3.5 stars

This was a really cute story. A nice fluffy, predictable contemporary romance novel. And that's not a bad thing. I rather enjoyed the non-heavy experience that this book gave me. You got your distressed female protagonist. You got you heartthrob lead male. You got a bit of drama. You got a happily ever after. It was a nice pretty package.

This is a great book for what it's intended to do -- tell a nice story. It's not really meant to make you think. It's not meant to change your life. Though, don't get me wrong, there are some moments throughout the book that I am sure someone can apply to their own life, which can be said for many books. It just did all of the right things that I knew the book would do before I even read it.

The characters, Dakota and Brendan, aren't overly interesting but their not boring either. Their chemistry together is believable, which is key. Since this IS a romance novel, that chemistry needs to be there. And it is. What's not there is their individual chemistry/personalities. I didn't care about their one of them, separately. But together, I was so there. There were moments throughout the book where I felt I could care for Dakota, but I don't think that it had to do with her specifically. It was more due to her circumstances. Brendan didn't really have much of a personality other than to be the man that Dakota was with regardless of those circumstances.

This is a VERY character driven book, which is why it falls short for me in that aspect. Now I didn't expect to have earth shattering feels from these characters, but I did expect to feel a little more than I did for them. I actually found myself caring more for some of the secondary characters (Wild Bill, Jillian, etc). Dakota wasn't a bad character at all, I did like her. I just didn't like her enough for the entire book to be focused on her and still get nothing from her being that focus. Brendan, as I said, was just there. He was wasted potential, I think. He has a fabulous personality, but it went nowhere. And that disappointed me.

There were a few plot points in the book that made me roll my eyes a bit. I won't list them, due to spoilers.

Overall, as I mentioned in the very beginning, this book isn't meant to be deep. It's not meant to change worldviews or personal philosophies. This book, in my opinion, is the type of book you read to make you feel better. To make you feel good. To get you out of a reading slump. Something light, something fuzzy, something warm. And that's what it did for me.

I feel I would be doing that book a disservice if I gave it any higher than a 3.5 stars. Because while I didn't have the highest of expectations, I still feel that while it did meet some of my standards -- it also feel short of a few others.

P.S. Very tasteful intimacy scenes. Madsen did a fabulous job making it about the emotional connection, as opposed to just the physical act of sex.

My Review:
I had so much fun reading this book and there is one reason for it...Dakota. The entire book is told from her point of view and she has a normal girl point of view with the additional benefit of the fact that she's a wedding planner and spends her days dealing with life's trials.

Dakota's life is not perfect. In fact, right now her life is completely in the toilet. The book starts with her standing in her wedding dress outside of the cruise ship in Jamaica waiting for her fiance who doesn't show. As a wedding planner, this is worse than her worst nightmare. Everything about her daily job is making sure that disasters like this don't happen and to have it happen to her is less than acceptable. The rest of the book is her coming to terms with that and finding out what she really needs out of her life.

Dakota is an OCD planner and list-maker. Those things that make her a good wedding planner make her life impossible for her to live with when everything is out of control for her. In the middle of her life breakdown, her childhood friend, Brendan, moves back to Vegas. Brendan gets her in a way that no one else in her life ever does. I loved them together and just how good he was for her. Talk about someone who is keyed into another person. Brendan is that person for Dakota. But that doesn't make it all smooth sailing for the two of them. Dakota has had her trust of everything she believes in...herself, the power of love, her ability to trust other people....completely blown away and that kind of thing doesn't heal overnight.

This book was simply a good, fun, entertaining read. There were moments of humor (several of them came at the anger management meetings...I was reading those scenes aloud to my hubby because I enjoyed them so much) but there were also a couple of moments where my eyes filled with tears. Dakota has issues that go back to her childhood and Brendan does so much to fix those for her. This guy...LOVED HIM!!

But it was also really easy to connect to Dakota, too. This is a girl who is used to being on top of every aspect of her life. She color codes everything (and let me tell you, I loved the warning/threat level coding for her brides and her life...simply a perfect example of why this book is so much fun to read). I'm a list maker, although not quite as OCD as Dakota, but I could understand her and her methods for trying to get back on top of it all when it spun out of control. I loved her internal dialogue. It was humorous and snarky and she noticed all the right things about Brendan...it was fun being in her head for 300 pages.

I would definitely recommend this book for a good, fun, entertaining read. Simply perfect if you have a wedding to go to or plan this summer!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Ready to Wed is a light-hearted and fun contemporary that will leave you believing in happily ever after.

Dakota did not have a normal upbringing- her momma walked away from her and her daddy when she was young. One would think that being raised by a football coach would make her tom-boyish. Instead she comes out on top of the girly girl cake- as a wedding planner. A great wedding planner. One who can pull off just about anything: hair mishaps, animal mishaps even family mishaps she can handle. Her own groom MIA is a little bit harder to handle.

She dusts herself off and gets back to work. This is suppose to be the busiest wedding season of her career. She cannot let her own heartbreak her job. Even if she is hating everything and anything to do with happily ever after. Grant isn’t helping matters by trying to talk to her, explain his situation. Begging her to come back to him.

Her childhood bestie, Brendan moves back to town and looks her up. Speaking of looks, he is smoking HOT! Even better than that he understands what she is going through and he is there for her yet again. Just like he was when her momma abandoned her.

I loved the easy relationship that Brendan and Dakota have with each other. Jillian, Dakota’s bestie will call a spade a spade which is refreshing. Dakota has a lot to figure out. Brendan knows this and doesn’t rush her or expect anything from her. But most of all, I like how Dakota is confused about her feelings for Grant- how she cannot just hate him for standing her up on their wedding day.

This is a book that brought tears to my eyes, had me laughing out loud and at times yelling at the characters. Overall, a fabulous read that I would recommend to everyone.

My Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Quote He says he needs me, and the fact of the matter is, my feelings for him didn’t just turn off because he didn’t show up on that beach.

Other People
Grant- Dakota’s fiancé, leaves her at the altar
Phoebe- Newspaper columnist who hates Dakota and writes about her life
Jillian- Dakota’s no nonsense bestie

Dakota was left standing on the beach in her wedding dress by the guy she thought loved her. What could be a worse fate for a wedding planner? In this cute and fun story, Dakota deals with the fallout. She's devastated, yes, but where is her sweet dog, Cupid, going to live and how will the brides she plans wedding for react? And why did Grant do this? It's a lot to take in for poor Dakota but then her best friend, Brendan, shows up again after years apart and things start to get interesting.

As I expected from a Cindi Madsen book, this one was very character driven. Grant had me seeing red. I get his cold feet and the reasons behind it but he handled it so badly. I wanted to throw him off the boat and cheered at the thought of Dakota taking him out with the ice bucket.

It took me a while to feel things about Brendan. I was grateful he showed up and that he wasn't going to just wait for Dakota to get back to him when her life was back together. I loved that he wanted Cupid to stay with him. He had a protective, caring nature that I loved. But really, it was when Dakota and Brendan were together that I learned to love him.

What's fun about this story is the smiling. From Dakota's no nonsense friend Jillian to Dakota's snarky charm, there was lots to smile about. Dakota handles her pain with a healthy dose of humor and goal setting. Her OCD organization trying to mix with Brendan's laid back decorating methods, it was fun.

This is the kind of story that warms your heart and helps you believe in happy. If that's the kind of sweet romance that you enjoy, don't miss this one.

What a book! And I mean that in the absolute best way possible.

I laughed. I swooned. I felt everything Dakota felt.

This wasn’t my first book by Cindi Madsen and it most certainly won’t be my last. Just like the first book I read by Madsen, I found myself lost in the story and struggling to put it down. Which is a HUGE compliment considering I was vacationing in England when I decided to dive into Ready to Wed.

Ready to Wed is funny, heartwarming, romantic, and captivating after only the first few pages. I was distraught when Dakota returned from what was suppose to be one of the most spectacular days of her life with nothing but a broken heart. But swooned as soon as Brendan walked through the door asking for his old friend, “DJ”.

I loved that it wasn’t just a random guy coming in to “save the day”, but a long lost childhood friend who knew her inside and out. It just made the whole journey for Dakota that much more romantic, in my opinion. Dakota is such a strong, independent woman who has a lot of spunk and determination. She works hard to make all of her brides BIG DAY the most magical day possible. I admire her for pushing through and continuing on even after her own big day turned out to be nothing but a bad day.

As for Brendan. Oh my, what a looker! He’s protective, supportive, funny, and easy on the eyes. The chemistry between Brendan and Dakota is definitely there and makes you, the reader, anxious for more.

This is a contemporary romance you don’t want to miss! It comes out July 22nd, so go ahead and add it to your TBR list!

This was a fun read. Dakota has a wedding planning business. On her wedding day she is jilted at the alter by her groom.

This book goes much deeper than just romance. After being jilted Dakota has to go on with planning other women's wedding and dealing with her pain. She soon discovers herself along the way and even might get lucky in love again.

The characters in this book are great and well developed. You feel a connection to them and cry, laugh, and be happy right alongside them. Dakota friend Jillian and her high school friend Brendan (a hot alpha male) help her through her pain along with her dog Cupid.

This is a great read that not only deals with heartache and romance but also finding yourself along the way. I will definitely be looking into Cindi's other books.

This is a delightfully fun romantic romp filled with love and laugh out loud moments. Dakota is a sweet funny woman who believes in love and lists and color coded tabs. Brendan was her best friend growing up until his family moved away. Now he is back just when she needs a friend most. This reads as a friends to lovers or a second chance romance but mostly it reads as fun.

Fazla bilgi vermek istemiyorum.

I fully admit to being biased because Cindi is one of my most favorite people but I LOVE her books and especially loved this one! There were times I literally LOL'd and I ended the book with a huge smile on my face. Another great book from a great author! (And bonus points for not making me cry this time!)

I absolutely adored this book! Filled with humor it's a story that shows us that with determination we can overcome any obstacles. This one is going on the coveted re-read shelf right next to Tracy Brogan for those days when I need something to make me smile! It's wonderfully written and has characters that stay with you. I highly recommend this one!

Ready To Wed by Cindi Madsen is a laugh out loud emotional read with an awesome cast of characters that were entertaining in their many challenges throughout the book. The journey that Dakota experiences is emotion-charged, amusing and intriguing and the many escapades of the characters keep the reader completely engrossed in the book.
