Great book if you're vegetarian...which I'm so not. I'm a full on carnivore, and happy to be one.
so having said that, the food and recipe section was not for me. The rest of the book had some good info, but nothing really earth shattering...I mean, by now we have all read how toxins, additives and pesticides are bad for us, and we are aware of where they can be found.
It's a quick read, but overall with a too preachy tone for me, so I skimmed most of the book, stopping every now and then to read a section.
I hate the title of the book, and nearly gave up on in in the first few silly chapters, but I was determined to give it a fair chance because I respect the author's father Joel Fuhrman. Finally the book got to the 'meat' :) and I took LOTS of notes. Talia does a good job simplifying nutritional content and concepts.
I have to admit based on the title I expected a bit more content on body positivity and inner work around that. This book is more for folks who are vegan or open to being vegan. Plant based diet is simply not my priority nor does it work for my particular health/dietary needs. The tone of the book was fun and entertaining and I feel it will appeal to younger audience. I think this is a very specific diet book with a very specific audience in mind. Though it was an ok read, it wasn't exactly for me.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Rodale Inc for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I absolutely LOVE this book! Talia Fuhrman is such an AMAZING author and I love how she has a passion for life and happiness! This book definitely has changed my perspective on life. I totally recommend reading it!
I've read this book three times and there has to be a reason. If you want to learn how to get healthy for real, not from some fad diet crap then this is the book for you. This is a jam packed guide to nutrition and overall wellness.

The book is divided into the following chapters.
Chapter 1: Loving Your Body Begins on the Inside Chapter 2: Friendship Chapter 3: Let Go of Body Hang-Ups Chapter 4: Nutrition Basics for Body Lovin’ Chapter 5: Radiant, Healthy, Blemish-Free Skin Chapter 6: Power Up Your Brain Chapter 7: How Healthy Fat Makes You Think Chapter 8: The Skinny on Nature’s Candy Chapter 9: The Three Most Misunderstood Foods Chapter 10: The Valuable Truth: Crazy Nutrition Myths Busted Chapter 11: Save the World by Eating Right
The book is based on eating a plant-based diet and she includes recipes in each chapter. The chapter discussing eating meat is harsh. There are people that, cannot for whatever reason, maintain a plant-based diet. I did not like the comment about eating fish from our polluted waters. This is supposed to be an upbeat book and I started doubting myself for my eating habits because I eat meat and fish. If you are vegan, you may enjoy this book.
The thing I like about this book and Eat To Live is the hundreds of studies and medical journals they site for each book. They feel like sound dietary advice instead of the latest fad diet. I will say that I prefer the writing style in Eat To Live better than this one. The target audience for this book seems to be girls in their late teens and early twenties, and sometimes the writing reads like a magazine (alliterative, cutesy). I found the style to be a little tiresome, but the information is still really good and even a little different than in Eat To Live. I really like that Talia focused on the emotional aspect of loving yourself, not just the physical side. She advocates for young women to focus on compassion, intelligence, physical strength, and relationships as ways to love yourself, not just looking good. That is sorely needed advice for young women, and not something you will find in most diet books. Overall it's an excellent book, but I haven't tried any of the recipes yet so I will rate it when I do.
I picked this up because of the title..., I mean who doesn't need a little more 'love your body'? However, the book wasn't what I thought it was going to be from the title. It was a lot more like the vegan informative books I have read before telling about the nutrients and good things that plant foods offer to us that make us healthier than eating an animal based diet. Some of it I knew from other books I have read and some of it was new or better explained so, I enjoyed that. I was sad there wasn't a bit more on body love but I don't regret reading it. The recipes sounded scrumptious and I look forward to trying some. I did like the business for clothes in the last chapter and I plan to check them out.
Finally a book on the beauty that is not only skin deep; there are as well as a number of tips and useful recipes a whole host of interesting news, for example informations about the foods toxic pollution, and there are also other aspects of beauty treated also from psychological point of view.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND RODALE Inc. FOR THE PREVIEW!
Right in the middle between 3 and 4 stars. This book is L-O-A-D-E-D with information, pages upon pages of citations. It's definitely a great read I think for anybody trying to learn more about nutrition. There's something keeping my from really LOVING this book , and I think it's because at the end I was exhausted--I ended up with "analysis paralysis," as the scientific community likes to say. It was SO FULL of information that at the end I wasn't as much inspired as I was just waiting for her to mention something else having cancer-causing properties.
Well-researched, and the author has a gazillion great points--I just didn't 100% of the time enjoy reading it.
If I need to eat ONLY healthy foods and NEVER give in to bacon, creamy cheese, chips, sweets and everything else that's tasty in order to feel 'Beautiful', I'd rather feel ugly. I like my books practical, logical and informative, not preachy or unrealistic to follow, so I'm giving up on this one.
I liked the first part of this book better then the second half. I didn't realize it was about switching to a plant based diet and thought it was more about taking care of yourself etc. I found some of it alarming and other parts to be preachy.
I enjoyed this book, very much. Lots of good information, and I took a lot from this. Talia's recipes are amazing and delicious, and I hope there's a cookbook in the future.
I am vegan, and found this book to be very informative while still being very accessible. If you aren't convinced that healthy eating will change your life after reading this, then nothing will.
